Roseanne Barr is 100% the quintessential white female Trump voter. - Friends with liberals (she has been friends with HRC for years) and shares many liberal views - Proponent of LGBT rights (she was the grand marshal of the SLC Pride parade and gave a speech where she talked about Utah becoming more progressive and moving forward, not being stuck in the 19th or 20th centuries) - Classically feminist (this was a bedrock of the original Roseanne, and she's always been vocal about equality for women) - Racist (more important than any of the above bullet points)
I loved the original show. I appreciated how they tackled serious issues - domestic violence, eating disorders, sex, income inequality, weird in-laws and families. But I can't watch and support the show now and I really wish that they had not done a reboot.

I remember watching it as a kid, but then she came to San Diego and sang the national anthem, and my Dad refused to let her show be on in the house ever again. I saw about 15 seconds of the new show while I was fumbling with the remote in the dark and it seemed terrible.
I’m really hating this “reboot” trend, too. I’d like them all to stop. Not everything needs to be resurrected.
I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE a My So Called Life reboot. I'm still pissed it only lasted 1 season
shows that ended before their time are allowed to reboot. *gavel*
See also: Firefly. If they hadn't made the movie anyway.
I watched Rosanne as a kid. My whole family did. I don't plan to watch this. I was surprised to see my mama's SUPER OUTSPOKEN liberal (gay) friend on FB who trashes the GOP and trump CONSTANTLY talking about how good it was. With a bunch of like-minded friends chiming in saying they enjoyed it too. Maybe this is generational? I dunno.
I’m surprised people didn’t know rosanne was a huge trump supporter and an asshole. Maybe I know because I follow tmz on Facebook and they’ve reported on it quite a bit.
My Trump-hating friends are excited about the show on Facebook last night. I'm side-eyeing them.
I never liked or really watched the original. Since I didn't see it often and was pretty young, I think my main takeaway was that her character and other characters were really mean. Definitely not interested in the reboot.

I'd buy that there may be some generational aspect(s) to it. Like I said up thread, I watch the Will & Grace reboot (not religiously) even though it's kind of terrible, partly because it reminds me of a period of my life that I sort of miss.
I’ve heard/read a couple interviews with her the past couple days and she’s saying how people need to just TALK, how we’re so divided, etc. in theory, maybe.
BUT i saw some tweet by her where she states that when approached by some anti trump person, she was basically like “fake news!” So - that’s her effort to talk? Refuse to entertain something about trump w/o resorting to calling it fake??

She doesn’t walk the walk.
I saw her and JG on Kimmel the other night, and it's very, very obvious that there is the Roseanne that follows ABCs rules, and the true Roseanne.
I enjoyed the first few seasons of the original, but by the last couple it seemed to have jumped the shark. I have no desire to watch the reboot. I wish Roseanne would shut up and go away. I would love to watch Laurie Metcalf and John Goodman do something together not related to this Roseanne garbage.

I liked Roseanne as a kid. It was raunchy and a bit more realistic since the parents weren’t gorgeous and the kids weren’t perfect ( although pretty clean looking back). I grew up very Waspy so this was a window for me.
I watched the reboot because nostalgia grabbed me. It seemed very contrived. Any long run sitcom creates caricatures by the end- it seemed to have just taken those caricatures and perpetuated them. Becky seems to be acting rash and casually shocks her family with it. Darlene seems to be acting superior and too cool, DJ fills the demographic need as a kid who doesn’t really have a defined character ( film maker “ artist” to armed services?). Jackie was an over dramatic neurotic mess who couldn’t think for herself- enter a woman in a pussy hat and a nasty gal shirt who took a year off from her sister so she could learn to trust herself.
I think it won’t go far, and I think they know it. Hence not caring to mention important people like Jackie’s son- or what happened to David.
I find her comment very ironic given her status as a MOT. On the other hand, she's also a right-winger, and heaven knows there are plenty of right-wingers in our tribe.

Completely agree! If you’re going to do anything using the success of a former show, perhaps follow Better Call Saul’s example of creating a prequel? But I feel like this doesn’t work nearly as well for sitcoms. Lack of creativity, WHUT?!

I'm not now a fan of hers nor have I ever been.
"MOT"? IDK what this means, and Google isn't helping me.
I read an article about the trend of re-boots. There is so much new content available over all the platforms - I can't remember the number, but it was hundreds of new shows a year - that all the networks are doing what they can to get some of those viewers. And when they are spending millions, its more likely that a re-boot with a built in fan base will payout over a new, untested property. Even if the re-boot fails and only has one season, they are still guaranteed to get media coverage, and people will tune in for some of it. It makes sense. I think there is talk about "Mad About You" being the next re-boot.
If the trend annoys you, tune into the one of the hundreds of other shows that are available.

Roseanne is Jewish. MOT= member of the tribe.
(I am assuming not wanting to put words in OP's mouth)

I'd be interested to see an age breakdown of who watches traditional TV, especially on basic cable networks like ABC and such, versus who's mainly watching stuff via Netflix, Hulu, etc. There's probably a lot of money in getting people in their 30s-40s to watch reboots, not only for the nostalgia but because of the "tradition" of a real TV show. I'm 34 and I'd still rather sit down to a real TV show or a DVRed episode than go scouting around the Internet to watch something ... I'm a big Internet consumer yet I don't want to be bothered with new-fangled technology when I can just flip on a real TV rather than screw around with Chromecast and a bunch of apps that keep crashing on me.

Is this where I say I hate the Will&Grace reboot too? I mean, let’s bring back Saved by the Bell while we are at it... actually, that’s not a bad idea.

I watched the show as a kid, and I watched the reruns for years, but I'm so turned off by the real Roseanne that I'm not going to watch this. Anne Helen Peterson had an interesting article about Darlene in the reboot taking the place of Roseanne from the original - sandwiched between trying to push against her parents and raising a kid pushing back against her. (link) I love Darlene, but that's not enough to make me watch this. (Also, Roseanne tweeted it out and called it "anti-Semitic drivel, so you know, super open to critique as always, that one.)
