Oh and the mother/daughter aspect and saying “goodbye” to her daughter was good. But it was sad that her own Mom never got to reconcile with her. But her mom died fighting the powers and likely as she wanted, so I’m not sure her realization wasn’t still a bit selfish about her own mom.
I am bummed at the ending, but also not surprised. It's too early in the series for her to get out.
This was a good episode, but it didn't gut me the way the last two did. I was kind of relieved about that, haha. The first two were rough.
Same I think. I knew she would get caught at some point. I did let myself believe for juuuust a second that the plane would actually get off the ground - but when it didn’t I wasn’t surprised. That basically went down as I expected.

Ditto. I was like "get off the ground, get off the ground" and then they started getting shot at and I knew it was over. Ughhhh. Not surprising, but man.
Can anyone explain the people who she dressed up like? That woman was fertile. Why isn't she a handmaid? Is that addressed in the book? I don't remember there being any characters who weren't the wives of commanders or handmaids, but surely there must have been.

Econowives. In legitimate marriages and allowed to stay married. They are lower class/poor and work in the community.
I just finished the second episode. The scenes in the Bostson Globe building are so eerie, given the current administration’s hostility toward the press.
I wholeheartedly disagree with the notion that the queer characters lack depth.
Showrunner Bruce Miller has made it clear that he wants the show to stay within Atwood's universe, and simply take deeper dives into things she couldn't fully flesh out within the narrative she set out to tell. He told The Hollywood Reporter that he planned the show out to 10 seasons when he initially outlined it — he's not opposed to creating big stories out of things Atwood might have just mentioned in passing.
How about hell to the no. I couldn't survive that long.

But June was in a legitimate marriage, right? Did she only get turned into a handmaid because she ran?

she wasn’t in a legit marriage. she and Luke had an affair and he got divorced, so his marriage to June was still considered adultery.
Oh, shit, I forgot about that part.
I know that econowife was freaked out, but I hated how much she judged June for being a handmaid. I’m also very curious what happened to them. I thought June looking out the window after they left was really fucking stupid of her.
One of the articles I read while reading reviews of the episode included some general information about the season. Unfortunately that includes a big spoiler about what happens next. I guess it shouldn't be surprising, but I was still ind of bummed abt it. That's the downside of a TV series vs a book or movie. There's a lot of spoilers we can assume/ know just based on how early it is in the season, the cast list of future episodes, etc.
I also want to know more specifically what happened to the econofamily.
Thanks, I don't mind spoilers and it wasn't that surprising. The video at the bottom was interesting. Elizabeth Moss is helping adapt Fever by Mary Beth Keane into either a pilot or movie about Typhoid Mary.

Oh and I don't think anybody has mentioned this, but I was pretty surprised when Ofglen/Emily (Alexis Bediel's charcter in the colonies) purposely killed and strung up the commander wife who still believes in Gilead, but she is brutal and I like her character.
I wholeheartedly disagree with the notion that the queer characters lack depth.
Me too. These characters are providing the resistance and fight against Gilead that we want to the whole show... I find that the biggest fighters and resisters are Emily (Alexis Bediel's character) and Moira (Samira Wiley's character). Moreso than Elizabeth Moss's character.

I have a friend from HS who writes for Roger Ebert and he totally spoiled a couple of things in his review. I was kind of pissed. I stopped reading after I realized it contained spoilers, but I am pretty sure I read one for what happens next too.
I don't know why they do that. I don't recall that being an issue for other shows, where they spoil episodes that aren't even out yet!
