It is mind boggling, especially after the disaster of a flu season last year, why anyone would be anti-flu shot.
.
My fear is that people will see it as futile due to the low effectiveness of last year’s vaccine, not understanding that those who got sick despite being vaccinated were way less sick and still avoided the deadliest strains.
Even though it’s mandatory for my job, every year people still do their best to avoid getting it for as long as they can. I guess some people really hate shots, some still view vaccinations as potentially risky, and some just don’t understand how important it is.
So far, 28 people have voted no. 2 have explained they medically can’t. Unless you medically can’t, then fuck the other 26 of you. Get your damned shots!

They will be doing them at my job next Tuesday so I'll get one then. The fall has snuck up on me and I need to get on top of getting our kids shots also.
Last year all four of us had the flu but we had had the shot so although it sucked we weren't THAT sick. I had the flu another time about 15 years ago with no shot and was so much sicker.
I know a lot of people that are not anti-vaccine generally but will not get the flu shot. It's weird.
We have an appt next Tuesday at our pediatrician. I get mine the same time the girls do. Then DH usually gets his at the grocery store pharmacy.
We've gotten one every year since my first pregnancy, but I only recall one time ever getting it before that (when work offered them for free).
My good friends are SO ANTI FLU SHOT -- loudly so. The man is an NP and swears up and down that all the medical pros he works with do NOT get the flu shot b/c they "know it's bunk." I'm new to living in SC, but I find that hard to believe.
Yes. I’m personally know (as in real people in my real life, not internet) two people with T1 diabetes who died from the flu, and my H has T1 so we are very diligent about it.
The boys and I got ours Monday. I went to Target and got a $5 coupon. No wait and I was less sore than prior years. The pharmacist said they’ve been doing a ton in the past few weeks. We’re already seeing some flu cases.
I think Publix is doing a $10 coupon if you get a flu shot there.
I took the boys the pedi by myself and while there was lots of screaming and crying, it’s worth it. 3 mins of crying > 2+ weeks of being sick with the flu.
I took the boys to the pedi as soon as they had them available as my SIL was due any day. I got mine the day before them.
I tried having DS1 get one with me at Walgreens last year but they only do them if over 6 years old. I don't think that's a national rule but might call before taking kids to a pharmacy.
My husband and I both got our flu shots. We generally do anyway but we're especially cautious this year because we have an infant. My parents always get it. We had to convince my in-laws to get it.
My MIL, in particular, is a hypochondriac and a paranoid Fox News watcher. I'm pretty sure she thinks that vaccines are a government conspiracy and that they make people sick. When we told her she had to get the Tdap before the baby was born she hemmed and hawed but then finally got it. She was even more reluctant about the flu shot but she got it on Monday. I'm sure she'll convince herself that she's having a reaction but when she complains about it we're just going to tune her out. You can't reason with people who lack reason.
Yes. I told my H to get his today. DS will get his at his well visit on 11/14, but now I'm wondering if I should take him in a little earlier.
I will get mine as well, but I start IVF injections tonight so I feel confused about when I should go. I need to ask the nurse if I can get it now or if maybe I should wait a couple weeks until I am hopefully knocked up.
Fuck people who aren't getting them just because they can't be bothered.

DS' next well visit is scheduled for the same day, but I scheduled his flu shot for 10/31. Its annoying because it involves going into work late and him potentially being grouchy for Halloween, but I worry about waiting until mid-November (I did last year and it was fine, but its a risk). I'd like to get him in sooner than 10/31, but there are only midday appts available at my pedi before then and it just doesn't work for our schedules, so fingers crossed! I wish I could just bring him to a pharmacy, but it seems like 2 is the lowest minimum age everywhere.
My work is giving flu shots on 10/19, and DH's work is doing them next week.

My pedi has a walk in clinic for flu shots a few days a week. I can take him after work next Thursday until 7pm. I think you've convinced me. They do make it pretty easy for me. Actually, last year a nurse told me that you can basically show up whenever and they don't turn you away for flu shot (though they don't advertise this obviously).
My old job used to give flu shots, but it doesn't seem like my new one does which is funny because our mission is community health related. LOL

DH and I got ours last weekend. DS will swing by the local CVS for a jab. I have my mother scheduled for the middle of the month; she's getting over pneumonia as we speak so her PCP wanted her to wait.
Leeham Rimes, check your local Department of Health to see if they have free flu shot clinics. DH and I typically do ours on their annual Saturday "Pandemic Drill" where the response team practices mass vaccinations. Our DOH also runs clinics at local libraries in the evening or Saturdays. It's so much faster that waiting at the doctor's office or stopping by a pharmacy. Plus, the ones giving the shots are skilled. From the time I signed the permission form until I was back in my car was 4 minutes and I didn't feel a thing.
I always get one. I assume my employer will offer it for free (every other employer I have had has done that) but if not I'll probably go to a pharmacy or something and get one.
I have never had the flu, but I always figure there is no harm in getting one, and potential harm in NOT getting one. So it's a no brainer IMO.
My older son got the flu when he was three and was hospitalized for two days from it (breathing treatments/fluids etc). That was the only year he didn’t have the shot. He had been sick most of the winter (daycare), and I didn’t work hard enough to get him the shot when he was in between illnesses. Never again.
My uncle who had COPD died of influenza last year. I don’t know if he had the shot or not, but we need to protect people in the at risk populations.
For those who aren’t getting the shot and will just “stay home” when they are sick....
It comes on very fast! When my son got it, he went from playing to coughing for four hours straight (the cough began at the store because we didn’t know he was sick).
Also, it can look like a “cold” to some healthy people. So, you go to work/school to achieve perfect attendance and end up killing someone. A lot of times doctors won’t Even do a flu test.
I got mine a few days ago. I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather and I’m not sure if it’s a coincidence or not. It wouldn’t have changed my decision to get it though since I have a newborn.
DS1 gets his beginning of November at a scheduled appointment and I’m worried it might be a little too late for it.
I wasn't sure about the flu shot for a long time. But then my mom was going through chemo and the Dr recommended that she get one and anyone else in the household get one too. I've gotten it every year since.
DH is generally anti medication unless necessary and even he is getting one this year.
I got DS1's (3) done at King Soopers yesterday. It was great. We happened to be at the grocery store, so we popped in. No wait and the doctor did a nice job with him.
Our pedi is kind of far away and I didn't want to drive him in just for that.
Excellent! I’ll drag the kids and H out for a family flu shot this weekend.
I would call ahead to make sure the location you’re intending on going to will do the younger ones. My SIL is a pharmacist for Walgreens and her location doesn’t do anyone under 7.
I am allergic to the flu shot so I voted no. I wish that wasn’t the case. The first time I got one I had an anaphylactic reaction. I don’t know what in it caused that reaction but it was scary. I am not allergic to eggs so who knows.
Wow, that is scary! And all the more reason all us non-allergic people should get it!
We all got ours already. We got lucky with DS2, he got his first dose at his 6 month well check and we all went last week to get his second dose and everyone else's shot. Our pedi's office just lets you schedule flu shots with a nurse, and all 5 of us got done in like 5 minutes.
Really glad the timing worked out well, because we're flying tomorrow and I'm sure DS2 is going to be exposed to lots of germs on this trip.

Does he work with chiropractors or alternative medicine only providers? Because otherwise, he's full of shit.
Always, ALWAYS get our flu shots, but thanks to crazy schedules I haven't taken the time to do it yet. Just called to set the kids up with appointments at the upcoming flu shot clinic. DH and I get vouchers from his company to cover our shots. Vouchers are coming next week.

42 no votes?! GTFO with that nonsense. Get your dammed shot!
My oldest got the shot last year and still got both strains of the flu, but she was only sick 24 hours with one strain and 48 hours with the next. Very very mild symptoms but the swabs came back positive when we took her in. It sucked that she still got the flu but only my husband got it too, the rest of us did not.
