Clearly I'm a FTM with no kids in the family. And we haven't done our childcare class yet. Google said babies poop 3x a day to once every 2-3 days (which doesn't sound healthy). I'm guessing Dr. Google is wrong
I'm just poking fun. Trust me, go through my post history here from DS. I had literally held ONE baby my entire life, lol.
I will say, though, we didn't even take the hospital class (living on the edge) and the nurses showed us everything in our couple day stay. You'll be fine when you get home.
But yes, get a pail, because they need to be changed constantly. I wouldn't say it was constant poop--there are a TON of wet diapers--but you will be changing the baby somewhere near 10 times a day. Our dog loved to rip up garbage and never smelled anything in DS's room, so the pail is worth it.

You'll want a diaper pail, but after about 4-6 months the amount they poop does really slow down and you might be able to get rid of it at that point. My kid averages 1 poop a day so I do generally just bring it outside to the main trash (or send my H out with it). It's no big deal. We do still keep a diaper genie upstairs though for when I don't feel like running outside, but I'd say I only put about 5 diapers a month in there. I only use it for poop diapers because the less you open that thing the better and also the refills are not cheap and pee diapers don't smell so I just bring them down to the kitchen trash with me.
Emptying the diaper genie is a chore that makes me want to die though. It involves me holding my breath, opening a window and turning the fan on for a couple hours.

I agree with icedcoffee. I feel like diaper pails are awesome gifts because we really only used ours while DS was small and while our dog was still alive. With our layout, it's convenient to just throw a diaper outside once or twice a day rather than use the pail, pay for the liners, etc.
But I loved having it for those first few months and we're using it again with DD for sure.

for all the new mamas...
We put all diapers in ours, pee and poop, so it needed to be taken out like every other day and that didnt give the poop smell a long time to linger. Re: refills, that's why we went with the Ubbi, because it took regular trash bags instead of special expensive ones.
I did get the munchkin stick on smelly things to help with the smell once he started solids.
We're still using it for E1's overnight pullups. So it was well worth the price considering we've been using it almost 4 years, and look to be using it at least another 4 years.

I will say that when he was really tiny I didn't find that the poop smell really lingered so I just threw those in the kitchen trash too. That went out every 1-3 days so it was fine. Only a handful of times did one of us ever say "oh--that's starting to stink. Let's take it out". Totally different story at 5 months when he started solids though. LOL
3. Questions for the group? Is anyone putting together a basket of treats for your nurses? Is this normal? If you do it, what do you put in, and do you leave it in your room?
Yes it is normal. I'm not putting together baskets, but planning on buying a bunch of bagels and schmear for them to have in the break room. Last time, I got kolaches for night shift and day shift, both L&D and postpartum/nursery units.
I can tell you, we really appreciate it. I just ask that if you do this, don't single out the nurse(s) actually assigned to you. It makes it more difficult to accept gifts since we're not supposed to unless it benefits the unit as a whole. Besides, we are all watching everyone's strips. I've had several patients put various snacks (protein bars, chips, candy bars, etc) in a basket in their room with a sign that says, "take some." The thing is, if it's not my patient, I may not ever see that basket. Or if I do, it will be during the actual delivery, and I'm going to want to scrub my hands with soap and water before taking a piece, which means I'd never go back to the room after scrubbing. So maybe something that can go in their break room so everyone can have some.
I had no idea this was a thing. I wish I'd known; I loved my L&D nurse this time around. It's kind of weird to me to go through this incredibly intense, life-changing event with someone who was so supportive throughout it all, and then...never see her again.

No worries. It's common but seriously, I think maybe 1 in 20 patients do it. We don't expect anything at all. We do this because we love it.
Reading this thread and suddenly I'm like, oh yeah...we have to do diapers and poopy diapers aggaaaainnnn.
1. How far along are you this week? 33w1d
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I've actually been feeling pretty good! If only I could sleep better, I toss and turn all night.
3. Questions for the group? Not today!
4. Do you have a birth plan? What is it? I'm hoping to not have to be induced this time, I'd like to labor some in the bath/shower again if possible. I thought I didn't want to be checked frequently last time, but that also meant that I thought I was still only a 3 when really I was almost a 7, and that was a bit of a problem for me mentally, so this time I think I want more frequent checks.

We registered for and received a diaper genie which we never used. Through 3 years of a diaper-wearing Kid1 plus 2.5+ years (so far) of Kid2, every diaper changed at home was on the pack and play changer in our family room and put into our (lidded) kitchen garbage can. It was taken out roughly daily. No smells, but I do use odor absorbing garbage bags.
oceanstbride , I also had a precipitous delivery with #1. I made it to L&D, but just barely. DD is 3 and will be in full day daycare M-F. Depending on time of day and how much notice we have, we'll have my dad (4-5 hours away), MIL (40 mins away), and a couple of next door neighbors for NEED IT NOW care, and also those neighbors' college age kids. The college kids, followed by their parents, will be our MOTN plan since I figure they are young and resilient. One is in community college and lives at home, another will be home for the summer by my due date. MIL has said she'll come MOTN if we need, we just might need a neighbor to come sit in the house for half an hour until MIL can get there. If it happens during daycare hours, MIL is on the list to pick up DD and has done it before (non-emergency) so she would be our backup for that.
This is helpful - thank you! Our go to sitter for years moved recently so we've been trying a few new sitters out over the last few months. I'll ask our favorite if it's something she's willing to do and reach out to the teacher at DS's school I'm thinking of. Or ask a few of our neighbors if they'd be willing to do what you described (sit in the house until my parents get there). I'm just having a hard time with possibly relying on my parents since they are not the most reliable when we plan things. My preference is to try to bypass them all together, but I obviously need to work on a back up plan. Adding to the list of things to do!
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I caught L's cold and am pretty miserable. Also wondering when I'll start feeling baby girl move. I started feeling L at 18 weeks, so I'm hoping soon. I thought it might be earlier since I know what it feels like, but I haven't really felt anything yet.
3. Questions for the group? Nope
4. Do you have a birth plan? What is it? I'll be having a repeat c-section. I had a great experience last time, so I'm not worried about it.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? I’m just sick of being tired all the time. I slept 9 hours last night and still needed a mid-day nap that I couldn’t take. I have a coworker that is also pregnant, about 7 weeks ahead of me. She keeps complaining about RLP and uterus stretching and it’s annoying me. I keep telling her it’s totally normal but she questions me on it. Hello, your uterus has at least quadrupled in size. There’s going to be some uncomfortable feelings.
3. Questions for the group? Nah
4. Do you have a birth plan? What is it? Get epidural, have baby. For real though, I would really prefer to go into labor at work. I work in a hospital and live a hour from the hospital(though we have loose plans to move). The hospital by my house does not take my insurance. Based on my last labor (29 hours) I would probably have plenty of time, but I do hope to be in labor a shorter amount of time this time! Of course, none of that is something I can plan for.
pandorica we got the nurses a box of donuts and dropped it off at the nurse's station the day we went home. We did the same for the NICU nurses. We'll do the same this time.
1. How far along are you this week? About 2 seconds... (according to random interweb calculators, 4w1d- just got my first positive yesterday and a better one today- shoutout to namasteak for analyzing my pee with me 🤣)
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? my H is away for work all week. I texted him the positive FRER picture. #thirdkidprobs
3. Questions for the group? Remind me how to be pregnant please? I feel like a newbie. I need to get vitamins, Can I take melatonin?, how much caffeine is too much? 😳
4. Do you have a birth plan? What is it? Hopefully VBAC2?

Congratulations!! And thanks for sharing with the class - I hate missing out on all the exciting BFPs!
1. How far along are you this week? 18 weeks tomorrow
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? Two more weeks until we find out the sex and I can't wait. We are going to have a little gender reveal with our girls. I'm also excited for cake. yummmm
3. Questions for the group? My bikini area is SOOOO itchy. Anyone else? I'm putting anti-chafing cream, cotton underwear, etc. but some days all I want to do it itch.
4. Do you have a birth plan? What is it? Most likely an epidural and a safe delivery. I had inductions with both girls and I was really hoping to go into labor on my own, but after really thinking about it, by mid July I am sure I will be happy to agree to an induction at 40w. My doctor already said that since I had two easy inductions, she is happy to induce me after my due date when I'm ready. Also, leaving the hospital ASAP.
