It's all but accepted fact that a Biden candidacy ensures a Trump victory. So far people outside of political circles don't know the other candidates well enough yet, but as campaigns warm up that will change very quickly. That's the purpose of a campaign. And I'm glad to see such a contentious primary because it will push whomever our eventual nominee is to really smooth and refine their tactics and message. And hopefully will also allow the dirt to be aired early enough that we'll avoid a major October surprise in 2020 and avoid nominating someone who has something major that hasn't yet been exposed (and it's likely some of the candidates do, especially Biden).
Biden needs to go home and knit, like yesterday. He is absolutely the wrong person to actually beat Trump, and further, the wrong person to lead our country.
And the primary exists to vote with your heart, not your head. Send a message to the DNC that trying to guess who is "most electable" will most often result in utter failure. We need someone bold and exciting, who will bring those who wouldn't necessarily overcome the enormous obstacles to getting to to the polls out on Election Day. In a majority black precinct near where I was in PA people waited 5+ hours after closing time to cast their ballot for Obama in 2008. The local Democratic club brought pizza to the lines so people had food while waiting because you can't get out of line. We need that kind of groundswell of support (without the barrier of lines like that to discourage turnout; the suburban wealthy, white town over had virtually no lines that day) to win. Middle income white people who claim they'll be swooned by Biden will turn around and vote Trump anyway, they'll just pretend not to. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if that's part of Russia's strategy this go around.
More bumper sticker anecdotes - I saw a Mayor Pete sticker on a coworkers car. So the tally is Yang, Warren (x several), and Mayor Pete.
In TN I’ve seen a lot of Mayor Pete, Warren and Harris. And I saw one that had all three which basically summed up my feeling of any of these people, lol.
If I really thought that Biden had the best odds, I'd be all in. For the reasons mentioned in this thread, I don't.
Did you see this article? In a head to head match up, Biden beats trump by the highest percentage, but several other candidates do really well too. Keep in mind for people that don't follow politics closely, they probably don't know much about the other candidates at this point. That will change as time goes on and the number of candidates dwindles.
You basically just reinforced what I said. Not that no one else *could* beat Trump, but that Biden has the highest probability of doing so.
My point was that there are several other candidates that beat Trump too and don't currently have the name recognition that Biden has. That will change as time goes on.

My 71yo dad told me this week that he’s voting for either Harris or Warren in the primary, and he’ll only vote for Bernie or Biden if they are the eventual dem nominee. As we chatted about it, he gave a bunch of reasons given in this thread for why he’s not voting Biden. And, since he’s retired, he’s trying to figure out how to get involved in his community for either Warren or Harris. To be very clear, he doesn’t know much about either of them, but he said that he was listening to me talk about them and for the first time in awhile he was excited about someone other than the “status quo”. So he spent some of our vacation researching them.
This is one small reason why I don’t yet believe all the polls/hype that Biden is most likely to beat Trump. The more we talk about some of the more favorable candidates, the better their name recognition is and the better chance they have.
We were eating brunch at a casino today (spent the night there after a wedding) and the table next to us were discussing Biden. The reason they're for him? Because the other top candidates (warren and sanders) are "so socialist", and isn't that wrong and stupid and gross.

From the mouths of boomers.
I hear this a ton...they’re toooo far left or they’re socialists. 🙄

Sounds like Democrats who have listened to far too much Fox News. Not a single candidate is truly socialist and they should look up what that truly means. FFS.

Yes!
My 70 year old mom says Biden is too old and out of touch. She likes Warren, who she says despite being of similar age to Biden has remained more in touch with what plagues current and future Americans through her teaching and CFPB work. Also, as a woman (albeit a white woman) she understands better than "old white men" what it means to be outside the political norm in America so she thinks she'll listen to those voices more.
Now, I don't think Elizabeth Warren is a pancea for all that ails us as a country, but my boomer mom who has retired with a comfy pension can see past her nose. Other boomers can, too.
Andplusalso THE ELECTION IS NOT TOMORROW.
My 71 year old dad is sorta for Bernie. We don't talk about that because my dad has had heart surgery and I don't want to give him a heart attack or myself a stroke. I know my dad. He'll vote for the Dem nominee, no matter who. He just likes to agitate from "the outside" on occasion.
