The U.S. military bombed its own ammunition dump in Syria because cargo trucks that could’ve moved the ammo out were needed elsewhere to support the hasty withdrawal.
I'm not going to muddy the Cummings threads with this asshole, but there is no way he wrote this
My warmest condolences to the family and many friends of Congressman Elijah Cummings. I got to see first hand the strength, passion and wisdom of this highly respected political leader. His work and voice on so many fronts will be very hard, if not impossible, to replace!
Per Erdogan's senior advisor, they did not take the letter seriously due to lack of "diplomatic finesse." She calls the letter "ridiculous" and "irrelevant." So. Yup.

I actually find it more offensive that "he" said anything at all. After his disgusting remarks about Cummings, he should have just kept his mouth shut.
"It's been going on for a long time. Syria may have some help with Russia. And that's fine. It's a lot of sand. There's a lot of sand over there. So, there's a lot of sand that they can play with."

“His work will be impossible to replace” is a direct dig at the impeachment inquiry. What a fucking ass hole.
Of course 45 didn't write that Tweet. He's not that coherent.
The contrast with his prior ad hominem remarks is yet another reminder of his norm-shattering. Prior presidents could generally sound sincere in their condolences for political opponents' deaths because there wasn't a published record of them attacking their basic humanity.
THE BIG IDEA: On his 1,000th day in office, President Trump downplayed the threat posed by the Islamic State fighters who have reportedly escaped since he abandoned the Kurds who were holding them and ordered U.S. troops to evacuate northern Syria. America, he insisted, doesn’t need to worry about terrorists who are “7,000 miles away.”

Oh. My. God.
Schumer and Pelosi also pressed Trump to explain his strategy for the region, per Seung Min and Mike. When he responded that his “plan is to keep the American people safe,” Pelosi retorted: “That’s not a plan. That’s a goal.” When Democratic leaders walked out, Trump repeatedly called out, “See you at the polls.”

Well that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Is he...basically saying he has this in the bag? Syria for re-election?
Someone with more skills than me need to make a "Don't be a tough guy. Don't be a fool!" meme taking that quote from his letter and matching it to his own stupidity.
A Turkish official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told the London-based Middle East Eye that Ankara threw away Trump's letter to Erdogan in the dustbin.
"We just dumped his letter to the trash," the official said, adding: "The date on the letter is 9 October, the same day we began Operation Peace Spring. Our president gave the best response by launching the operation on the same day at 4pm."
The letter was leaked a day before the US vice president arrived in Ankara seeking a ceasefire between Turkey and the Kurdish-led SDF.
Ahmet Davutoglu, Turkey's former prime minister, said all meetings with US officials should be cancelled.
"The Turkish nation and state were offended," he tweeted.

This is clearly completely moot by now but... is... that... legal?
I have some limited awareness of how the government awards contracts and I... don't think that one person is just allowed to be like... we're going with this bid!

I don't work in the federal sector, but plenty of people in my industry do and that's not how it works from what I know.
More importantly, it is seemingly a major violation of ethics laws. But, as you said, so what?

Didn’t realize Pelosi was running....
If she isn't reelected to Congress in 2020, that will be brazen evidence of vote tampering.
What a disaster. Everything. Mulvany thinks he was cute with the briefing but he confirmed a lot. Idiot.
And now Pence talking about a ceasefire while they safely transport the Kurds out of northern Syria. Soooo basically they displaced them right? Isn’t that what turkey wanted to begin with?
I've always heard people say there's nothing like a war to get re-elected. The more this goes on, the more I believe it's purposeful.
Yup, the ultimate distraction. Pretty sure we all saw this coming years ago. He always used distractions to dictate what the media will discuss and I am not at all surprised he involved us in a none-war war to get off the impeachment shit. Fucking unbelievable.
