Hi, all! Looks like it's been almost two years since I posted, but I still lurk occasionally and this thread made me come out of retirement (and find my PW, LOL).
Anyway, I am also a new Peloton owner/fangirl. I have managed to locate/stalk a couple of you in this thread, but feel free to follow me -- my LB name is SerBrienne!

DH needs shoes. A friend was going to give us their referral bonus but it’s just for boutique clothes. Since we need to pay full price is there an off brand shoes that’s just as good for cheaper or should we just get the peloton shoes?

You can get any pair with the Look Delta clip. Peloton doesn’t carry a pair big enough for my H so we bought these and purchased the clips separately. I’m not an expert on cycling shoes but a lot of people say the Peloton shoes aren’t great quality. We were very limited by his size but you can probably find something cheaper.

I barely tolerate my Peloton shoes and much prefer my Pearl Izumi spin shoes but I don't want to switch out my Peloton pedals.
icedcoffee if you're close to outlets try looking into a cycling store. My local Pearl Izumi has a ton on clearance/sale. My H's shoes were like $55 after tax on sale/ Or, maybe eBay.
Saw this at Costco - you can return it if it sucks
I have been lurking this thread and am toying with this, especially since I won’t be really working out until March/April (due with #2 mid-Feb) and Costco is amazing with returns if I would have an issue with it.

I got on it and rode it a minute at Costco. Solid bike and it rode smooth as far as I could tell

Sorry to resurrect, but those who just bought their bikes, what do you think a couple weeks in? Anyone not planning on keeping it past the trial?
I'm getting closer to ordering one for myself, just need to figure out where to put it. I like the classes I'm taking on the app, but still need to get to the gym and would rather be a little more private while I'm sweating profusely.
Either way, my MIL's comes Saturday and I cannot wait to try hers out!

Since the thread has been resurrected...I'm a lurker, but my husband and I have decided to order one as our Christmas present. Does anyone have a referral code I can use?

I am the OP and I absolutely love it. I'm really, really happy with it. The best part for me is mental- I have posted separately that my Mom passed away at the end of September and I have been struggling. The bike has been really helping me to burn off the sadness and the craziness of grief. I really love it.

Since this is resurrected I’ll jump in. My DH actually bought mine as a surprise and NO I was not insulted. I was so excited and thrilled with it. I used to spin a lot but hated the old gym I went to. The new gym doesn’t have spin and I can’t get there every day so I now am in love with my Peloton.

This is why I don't really get the "how dare he" outrage about the commercial. My H bought me a treadmill years ago. He knew I liked to walk and didn't want weather to impede me. Now he knows I like spin, so I'd be thrilled with a Peloton. And I'm overweight! Are people's spouses really buying them multi-thousand-dollar workout equipment without any indication that they'd enjoy it?

It's the actress in the commercial. She made the whole thing weird by looking anxious the entire commercial. Like she was desperately seeking her husband's approval. If it had been played more upbeat with a "fuck yeah this is exactly what I wanted" attitude, it would have been completely different.

I definitely didn’t read it as “seeking his approval”. To me it was more about setting her own challenges. As someone that regularly spins/works out I often set these goals for myself. At no time did she indicate she was doing it for him.

She's sitting next to him an entire year later with a video on how much she used it. She keeps looking at him nervously. That is very much seeking his approval.

How about she was just proud of herself for commiting to it?

The Aviation Gin follow up commercial with the same actress is brilliant.
I’m one of the ones who just got mine- I got it on December 1st and I have 13 rides if that’s an indication of how much I love it. I had done 8 days in a row! Honestly I only took today off because I was busy. But it was a good rest day because I did both a ride and some strength training yesterday so I am sore. And honestly it bothered me that I skipped today. I felt annoyed. Ha. I have NEVER been this was with exercise. I don’t know that I’ve ever exercised even 3 days in a row and I’ve hated every second of it prior to this.
One of H’s friends is a cyclist and helped us find a used Lemond Revmaster Studio Cycle for $200 we are hoping to look at today. Fingers crossed!
We got the bike! It’s very sturdy and in great shape. Plus the price was right!
This is what I have and it’s an awesome bike. Very sturdy. It’s a commercial grade bike so you should get great use out of it. The Peloton is fancier in terms of gizmos and it’s seamlessly integrated into the user interface (as it should be, obviously), but bike-wise you made a much better purchase. The app subscription is cheaper than the monthly Peloton subscription, too. You made a great choice for not financially being able to swing a Peloton. Happy riding!
There is a great thread on Twitter about how the problem with the commercial isn't the actress (or her sad eyebrows), it's the weird copywriting, where we the audience are also put in the role of the husband (who she's making the video for), but then the husband is also in the commercial, and the shifting perspective makes no sense.
I don't think it's unrolled, and it's too long to paste it all here, but she also compares other successful personal journey commercials (Nike) and other Christmas gifting commercials (like Lexus).

It’s so quiet too!
I’m going to have to build my stamina. I did just 20 minutes with Olivia (who is adorable) the other day and I was dying.
underwaterrhymes dont be too hard on yourself! The shorter rides can be really condensed and intense with short recovery and almost no warm up, they can be as tough as some of the 45’ rides. Edited for random typos
