He’s an asshole. I’ve always held the same position on this, if a seat reclines, you can recline it.
Yes exactly. I never understood the argument against it that people sometimes have on here. I consider myself an extra considerate person, so I rarely recline because it doesn't really benefit me at all personally, so I figure why potentially encroach on someone else's space. However, I have absolutely zero problem when people recline in front of me. The seat is designed to recline, so why get mad at someone for using that feature?!
If he had nicely told her he was feeling a little claustrophobic and could she please not recline then I would think she was a jerk if she didn’t say ok. But even if it had gone down that way he is still totally in the wrong.
Look, I hate when people recline in front of me. I don’t really ever recline my seat because it minimizes the already small tray space of the person behind me. I find it really irritating when others do it. But come on. Seethe silently. There’s no need to be an asshole.
The only point I take issue with here is “pick another seat” - I’ve gotten stuck there through no choice of my own on multiple occasions(and also because I booked late and that was all that was left; I do accept responsibility for that reluctantly lol).
I hate when people recline but that’s my issue. I can’t imagine punching someone’s seat over it wtf.
Now if you sit behind me and kick my seat for no reason... it’s on.
I get super irritated when someone reclines in front of me BUT, I am not a child so I complain quietly to myself. And maybe give them a dirty look through the seat because I just know they can feel my anger.
I can’t think of ANYTHING that would justify PUNCHING the seat of the person in front of you. I mean seriously, that’s three-year-old behavior (no offense to three-year-olds).
Ask nicely. Talk to a flight attendant. But punching? Never okay.
Omg FUCK that guy. Would he be punching the seat of a huge man? Or, really, of any man? This enraged me.
I admit that I get a bit claustrophobic on flights when people recline (which is why I try to upgrade to premium economy/more legroom whenever possible.) Airlines are packing people in like sardines and flying has become an increasingly terrible experience unless you’re lucky to have money or status. I’m not surprised people are irritable.
But something about the way he was punching her was making me supppper uncomfortable.

Exactly. THIS is how it is supposed to be handled.
It's a chain reaction though. If she can't recline but the person in front of her does, then all this guy has done is trade his discomfort for hers. Obviously he doesnt care, but I feel like a normal person should get that.
It is never ok to punch someone's seat, so I'm on team woman.
I hate the reclining thing too... I have long legs and I'm a bigger person so I have no room to begin with. But it's still an expected part of flying. Airlines are the worst but that isn't exactly a secret.
That guy is a douche. I would have absolutely lost my shit on him and gone full on BSC. I give kids the benefit of the doubt because they're wiggly and confined, but this dude is an immature asshole.

Twitter: Monica Lewinsky the fact that there is so much controversy over this explains a lot about today’s world. ... and terrifies me. (it’s always annoying when someone reclines, but she’s in the right. THE. SEAT. RECLINES. he would probably never do this to another man. )
This guy is a fucking asshole...this is basically assault in my opinion because he’s pissed at her so he’s hitting her and trying to intimidate her. As someone who has back issues, I don’t recline my seat all the way but I need to do it slightly or I basically can’t walk when I get off. The seat reclines so people CAN RECLINE IT. ..too bad for him that he got a seat that doesn’t.
