After doing absolutely nothing last weekend, I'm looking forward to having some plans this weekend. Today we're doing this mini-putt/pub crawl thing with friends that's a fundraiser for our local public schools. It sounds like fun.
Tomorrow DH and I are knocking doors in our city for Warren. I kind of miss canvassing; I haven't done any since last spring's local election. Not sure what kind of reception we will get here as I haven't seen any presidential yard signs at all.
Monday I have off for Presidents' Day and I'm not sure what I'm doing yet.
DS2 is away for the weekend, DH is on his way home from Hawaii . He texted me last night that he was at Waikiki Brewery and Nick Lachey was there! He went to the restroom at the same time as him. He’s so silly. I am doing my power yoga class this morning and then I think I might go to Home Goods to look at some decorations to put above our cabinets in the kitchen.
Lazy morning here with the kids at my parents' house. I need to get in the shower soon and then get them and groceries picked up. DD has a cookie booth this afternoon, then I think we're going to a German restaurant for dinner.
Tomorrow maybe church, purging and reorganizing DS's toys, and the kids have swim.
We're all off on Monday, DS has a friend coming over but otherwise it will be relaxing and getting ready for the week.
Well, my Valentine’s/Anniversary was horrid, so I spent most of last night crying which led to a giant migraine. Then was up at 6 this morning for my sons basketball game at 8. Still had my migraine and the woman next to me yelled “hands up orange” nearly the entire game and her nose-breathing husband manspread so much that I was practically forced into the empty chair beside me.
Anyway, I plan on being lazy the rest of the day because my knee is screaming at me. My daughter has a game at 4 and then I’m making Lasagna for dinner which I’m kind of excited about. And then tomorrow my plan is to do exactly nothing.
We went to see Downhill last night. It was not good. And the couple sitting on the other side of H were so drunk and talked to each other almost the whole time. I eventually leaned over and asked them to stop.
This morning I woke up to something in my eye. I flushed it and flushed it, eventually got a nosebleed, continued flushing and it still hurt so I went to the eye doctor and she saw an abrasion and one side of my lasik scar in that eye was inflamed so she gave me a bandage contact and drops and I go back Monday.
Today I need to pick up H’s birthday cake, finish a practice midterm and then we are going to dinner to celebrate H’s birthday. I’m using my eye as an excuse to skip the gym, lol.

Oh no; that sounds terrible. Sorry about your anniversary and I hope your delicious lasagne helps you feel better!
I was out late last night hanging out with my mom so it's 7:30 and I'm still in bed. I'm debating getting up for an 8:30 barre class I was planning on taking or rolling over and closing my eyes again or reading.
Tomorrow evening I'm going to dinner and a concert with my dad and am so thankful I have Monday off. Otherwise, I have a huge to-do list of all the things I've been putting off, so I should work on that.
We went to a neighborhood party last night and the hosts have a cat. The house was super clean and I didn't even touch the cat and I had a terrible allergic reaction. I am still suffering today even after showering and changing my clothes. I hadn't been around a cat in a while and was hoping that maybe the allergy has lessened or something, because I'd love to have a cat. Bummer.
I've ordered groceries to pick up this afternoon and need to get my receipts submitted for reimbursement from my interview this week. Aside from that, just usual meal prep and laundry to get done. It's going to be fairly warm here today, so I think we'll get out to the park. I'm planning on dinner out tonight, which will be nice.

At some point I turned into my mom and I don’t know when it happened. Like, I just have to find something to clean, even when my house is clean. This was never me before. What happened? I’m only 31! I had more time, I thought!

H and I are going out for dinner tonight and DS is staying with my parents for a sleepover. He seems to be feeling better thankfully. He ate two slices of French toast and asked to watch “Vroom vroom” (Cars).
I’m so thankful for a three day weekend. This new school is draining AF.

DH bought my team half pound cookies for Valentine's Day and made stems and leaves to make them look like a bouquet. He is really sweet and extra. Lol
We may go to the Mall of America today just to get out of the house. It is warmer than it has been but I don't feel it is warm enough for outdoor activities. I should go to the gym but I have a ton of laundry to put away and that is enough unpleasantness for a Saturday.
I skipped the gym this morning and have been cleaning. We are supposed to go to a couples poker thing tonight that our old neighbor has every year. It’s really fun but I’m having the worst time trying to find a babysitter! I’ve asked so many people the last two weeks. Ugh. Hopefully can find someone today otherwise we aren’t going. We have a sitter tomorrow night because we are going axe throwing with a few couples so that will be fun and I’m off on Monday.

Add me to the lazy weekend group. We are just getting groceries delivered this afternoon and that’s it.
Our Valentine’s Day was nice. We got our ds and dd a small box of chocolate and a card, they loved it. My H bought me a sweet card that made happy cry. He usually buys silly cards so this one with words was sweet.
DH and I have the week off for midwinter break. I just booked a quick overnight to get out of town for a quick bit.
I’ve had a busy week and I’ve just been heartbroken over a diagnosis one of my students just received the other day. The family is devastated, the school staff is devastated. It was truly hard to teach this week. The family should be getting more information on the next few days and everyone will know more.
Our kids don't have school on Fridays. Dd had a basketball game 4 hours away so after we dropped her off at the bus, we went to a 4H bake sale, then went over to the resort to spend the day with H and so I could get some cleaning done. H and ds rode the snowmobile around for a little bit and ds played in the snow a bit more after that. The il's came up so we had dinner at their cabin and ds stayed the night with them. I would've stayed the night with H at the resort, but had to be back here to pick dd up when she got back. They are all coming over today for dd's basketball game.
We are supposed to get more snow starting tonight into Monday. The pass we drive over to get to the resort is supposed to get another 2 feet between tonight and Monday evening! So no plans for tomorrow. And since we don't go to school on Fridays, we don't get all these other random holidays off so the kids have school.
Are you in Colorado? My son was just telling me that some schools in Colorado have 4 day school weeks. He's a HUGE proponent of that, lol. He talked to his teacher about it and she told him these schools still go to to school the same amount of days a year. Is that true?

Is Friday still a work day for teachers? If not, I wonder how many teachers come in unpaid anyway? Are the days longer?

My BIL and SIL live in Denver. Their kids don’t have school on Mondays. As far as I know, their year is still the normal length. I think the school days themselves are a little longer, though. Like maybe an hour?
My H totally whiffed VDay and he is feeling guilty about it, even though I truly don’t mind. After he found the card I tucked into his guitar case (we had separate shows last night), he panic-bought me a bouquet of grocery store flowers on the way home. Lol. They are pretty sad-looking.
He shows his love in a zillion small ways every day and gift giving just isn’t his thing.

Ohhh, that's probably what his teacher was trying to tell him. That makes more sense.

I just found an NPR article about it: 40 minutes longer.

I’d take that. lol
We've actually talked about moving to Colorado and he was super excited about it because apparently someone told him about this. I'd actually be allll for four day work weeks for everyone. I know it's not reality, but it would be nice!
We are in Colorado, but not all schools in Colorado have a 4 day week. Our school is pre-k through 12th grade and has 180ish kids. Our kids go from 8-4 and Friday is not a work day for teachers. We are there on Fridays a lot for sports and I hardly ever see teachers there working, unless they are helping at the sporting event. But to be fair, I don't roam around the school looking into classrooms. I see teachers at the sporting events often. I think teachers tend to stay later on school days instead so they can enjoy the 3 day weekends also.
We start school around the 20th of August and go until the beginning of June. We get Thanksgiving, 2 weeks for Christmas, and a week for Spring break in March...but other than that, we don't get holidays off. We did just have a couple extra days off in January for aesbestos removal in the music room, but we won't have to make them up at the end of the year. We also hardly ever have snow days, despite being in a mountainous area.

No. You do not want to go to this. It impacts instruction time and makes it more difficult for kids to get everything in. It's also incredibly hard on basically any working class family without a SAH parent.
The district we moved out of when we moved to this house had a funding measure on the ballot in 2018. Thank God it passed because if it hadn't, they would have gone to 4 days weeks. I don't know what the fuck we would have done. Not to mention, it's a pretty clear indicator in most districts that they are severely underfunded and can't afford to pay staff for that 5th day.
eta: This is also not just a "Colorado" thing. There are certain districts in the state (again, generally ones without adequate funding) that have moved to 4-day weeks, but it's not the norm.
etaa: I only work 4 hours on Fridays, so I basically have Fridays off. It's wonderful as an employee. I love it. But I truly cannot imagine what a hardship it would be on many families to not be able to send their kids to school on Fridays. Also, as someone who works, I use that time on Fridays to grocery shop and get things done. I don't want my kids at home with me. I would advocate for any company to move to 4 day weeks if it made sense for the organization, but it does not make sense for schools.
etaaa: I should really stop, but it's just so bad. Think about all the ancillary positions, like cleaning staff, hourly paraprofessionals and assistants, office staff, etc. All of these people are working on an hourly rate, so cutting out that 5th day often means their hours are being cut. I've been in Colorado for 15 years now and this 4 day week thing is coming up more and more. Go look at what Colorado invests in education. It's abysmal. Truly. We are one of the lowest in the nation for per student investment. 4 day weeks have never been an indication of a better schedule for students and teachers. There's no evidence that it benefits students or staff. In every instance that I know of, it is a very clear indication that the school just doesn't have enough money.

And an 8 hour school day mon-thurs. no thank you. So for a teacher that really still means you are coming in at 7:15 and not leaving until 6pm because you have to prep an 8 hour school day! And yes, it means there’s no money. Pay teachers less and they have to work twice as hard.
All my son has done today is monologue to me about his pretend spy activities, with sound effects. One day I will look back fondly on a time when he wanted so much of my attention. Today, however, I want to run away to Costa Rica.

This is my biggest issue with it. I mean, I would love it but with just like a 4 day work week, it's just no doable for most. This is something we'll never deal with in our situation, but like I said, I was curious because David talked about it so much.

I had Fridays off in college. Our University really only held science labs and stuff like that on Fridays, so I pretty much always had the day off. It was fantastic. So, tell him to go to the University of Denver and he can have 4 day school weeks when he's 18.
