VillainV , - are you guys not getting numbers daily from your government? I think the only way to know is the numbers.
We are seeing improvement!! I have several friends who are ER docs and things have slowed down a lot in the ERs. Hospitals still have a lot of admits, but getting better as people have been able to go home, or sadly die.
We are over 20k cases and over 800 deaths, but the number of new cases has gone down daily, the graphs are starting to trend down. I know our case per capita is higher and our black population has taken a big hit:( We have a large black population that is greatly underserved.
Our local death rate looks to be higher than the average of COVID worldwide.
I’m feeling more positive but now is when we need to keep doing what we’re doing!!!
I’m in Florida. Our government is full of horrible excuses for human beings who don’t give a shit about truth or human life. When the governor does give statistics, they are demonstrably lies. Since we are a rural county, we have extremely limited testing. The daily news reports numbers of cases and deaths in our county, but due to the non-availability of testing, they are nowhere close to accurate.

Desantis is a criminal, slightly less orange version of trump who refuses to give people a functioning unemployment website so he can keep his numbers low on paper. He definitely is also downplaying the wrath that coronavirus has caused since its agent orange’s fault in the first place that there was such a horrifically delayed and unhelpful response. I know the numbers we see =\= the actual illness bc I have several “friends of friends” that have all the covid symptoms but can’t get a test.

The consensus has generally been that California seems to be doing a great job.
Every road in our town has a sign saying no parking except residents and all parking lots are barricaded. It has made huge difference. The first weekend of quarantine the whole bay area descended on the county to hike, bike and walk. Now that it has stopped it's much easier to social distance. That has also improved the norms. When there were people everywhere it felt like no one was actually doing it - and the people inclined to shirk did. Now that the streets are empty these past three weeks, people are being much more careful.
Thank you. My kid went to Quaker school for years, I do not see anyone she knows not completely social distancing, unless they are in the healthcare field or non-profits serving the community in necessary activities (food banks, emergency legal services, politics), but I can see where it would be a bigger issue for Amish and some Mennonite communities.
Quakers have little in common with Amish and Mennonite. Quakers live all over the place and not in communities in the same way as the other groups and aren't really considered "plain" in that same sense.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I’m in Ohio and it seems to be working well here. My county has had 38 hospitalizations, 11 deaths, and 155 cases total. But there are a bunch of whiners and deniers on the town FB page. I haven’t left my house since 3/12, so I’m not sure what’s actually happening.
The website below gives us the only F. I know Ohio’s numbers have been down, but we’re also not testing enough people.

Wow, I know we’re having issues with testing, but DeWine has been pretty proactive so I thought we were doing well compared to other states.

Traditional (Conservative) Quakers are still considered Plain.
My county has 330 cases but 1/3 of them are from one nursing home. But people in my area are still doing play dates, Easter family get together, etc. it’s annoying
I work in a hospital in a county bordering Pittsburgh. For the past two weeks, the system has averaged 3 dozen confirmed or presumptive inpatients (CEO sends daily email updates). The inpatient count has not climbed, thankfully. Peak is expected this week- next week.
The county count has climbed slowly but I do have some reservations on the accuracy. My county relies on the state DOH as it does not have its own entity like other counties and it appears that data is still several days old by the time it is reported. This became more apparent a few days ago when the newspaper interviewed the county coroner who stated he has had 11 deceased Covid patients that he has encountered while the official total from the state was still only 1. The explanation was that the reporting system is convoluted and can miss deaths. It makes me wonder if the confirmed causes is equally skewed.
My county will hit 3,000 confirmed cases tomorrow, my town has over 70 cases. People are definitely not taking it as seriously as they should be. My neighbors still have painters in their house. Another neighbor was telling me about their elderly friend who went to about 5 or 6 supermarkets looking for a ham this week. There are pictures on the city's Facebook groups of people gathering in parks. There are a lot of people not taking this as seriously as I wish they were taking it.
Having said that, yes, social distancing is working. There are many of us going out only for essential grocery store runs, and doing pick-up if possible, or and going on family car rides where we don't get out of the car when the walls really start to creep in. The cases would be higher if people were not staying home. Our proximity to NYC and the hardest hit county here indicates that this could be much, much worse for us.
My state, Louisiana, is not doing good. I know we had the highest case count per capita in the world for a little while. My parish isn't terrible yet but has an F for social distancing on that link someone posted.
They’ve tested just under 19,000 and there’s currently 499 cases and 9 deaths. I feel like those are pretty good stats?
People on social media are constantly critizing the governor about not doing enough but I’m not really sure what more he could do. He not well liked beforehand though.
But also I say social distancing is going well as I can hear my neighbors entire extended family over so really what do I know.
Yes. I'm in BC and we are flattening our curve. I've been working from home for over a month now and there's been queuing for groceries for the last 3 weeks. People are being considerate on the whole and staying home, though like anywhere you still get the occasional selfish arse. Every evening in all the neighbourhoods of my city you'll hear bells and whistles and cheers for frontline workers. The government response in Canada has largely been competent and calm. But I don't think anyone imagines we'll be back to normal anytime soon.

The Internet says SF has flattened the curve and everyone I know is obeying but yesterday during our appropriately social distanced dog walk we saw like 10 people having a little sidewalk party adjacent to their garages. I was shocked.
Without testing, we just don’t know. We don’t have a ton of confirmed cases, but it’s known that there are more infected than are accounted for.
It’s almost like you can’t get good testing until shit gets bad in your area, which is so fucked up! Our friend who’s an anesthesiologist had it, it took him 11 days to get his results. Now we can get them same day.
Our testing issues are now largely outpatient based, thankfully. Our county only has 45 deaths but my hospital rolled out same day inpatient testing last week.
We are mostly only testing healthcare workers and people at risk (like people in care homes or correctional facilities) as well as people tied to known outbreaks. We have had far fewer cases (proportionally) than some places in the country, and people are generally compliant with social distancing. I fear that because we have had a reduction of hospitalizations, which seems like a good indication of cases (over and above a testing numbers) that people will start letting up and trying to socialize. My husband (and obviously elderly parents) are at risk, and I fear this.

Our numbers have gotten worse and it's predicted that we won't peak for a while. We're having too many people hang out in large numbers in parks, etc. Part of it is the gov't's fault for not putting in strict guidelines, so people are taking the piss. Some of it is that people either don't believe it's that bad or are just stupid or ignorant or think it won't impact them. When my H and I went walking to the shops on Friday, we had families out walking 4 across and couples who wouldn't move from the middle of the sidewalk so there was no way to socially distance unless you were willing/able to go out in the middle of the road (which wasn't possible all the time). Very few people are wearing masks and some shops are just too full (I now go only to shops where they only allow small numbers at a time or that aren't busy anyway because the few bigger shops scare me). People were busted going on holiday this weekend (it was gorgeous out), trying to sunbathe in parks, and having big house parties. People are idiots.
Is it working in the sense that numbers are going down? Yes. Are people actually socially distancing? No. I am sure Houston gets an F. We also aren't really testing anyone yet. Based upon what I saw yesterday we will be seeing a gigantic spike in 7-14 days from now.

I am in Michigan, the 3rd hardest hit state, and in the 2nd hardest hit county within the state. I don’t know of we hit our peak yet but I think/hope we might be close so will hopefully be flattening very soon.
For the most part people are taking this seriously in our area, although, I do still see families grocery shop together still. The other day, a neighbor was taking a walk with his family AND his parents which I kind of side eyed.
People are all up in arms over not being able to have their lawn service mow their lawns. 🙄 One lawn service posted on Next Door about defying the Governors executive order AND WILL MOW YOUR LAWN. Not one person needs their lawns mowed right now.
I expect a spike in our area after this weekend given the number of people in my area who were having easter with family. I went to pick up a gallon of milk on Friday night about 20 min before the store closed and the parking lot was full. I went home.
The irony is, while we are here complaining about others, “Walking to the shops”** (what shops? how are you able to carry your 2-3 week essential grocery supply in your arms?) and going to the store just for one item are both behaviors that contribute to the problem.
** assuming no access to a car or delivery options to avoid frequent in person trips
I think it's working. We get daily updates separated by city within the county. We did have a senior living/retirement home that was hit and had over 75 cases including the staff. Total deaths in our area is 13. We are somewhat rural since we are in the suburbs. My SIL says the ER has been slower than normal. We have been on SAH for a full month now and the kids haven't been back since before spring break which was late for them. I think it helped having a later spring break.

In London, the shops you would drive to are larger and have more people in them with less of a chance to socially distance, and most people don't own a car and we're certainly not taking public transport. So, people walk to shops that are local and are doing social distancing. Most of us aren't shopping for 2-3 weeks of groceries as very few of us can do that anyway due to storage issues (smaller fridges/kitchens/etc). Going shopping for groceries are a necessity - going to a park to socialise or get some sun, walking 4 abreast on a sidewalk, such things are not necessary and what I'm complaining about.

Fair enough. I apologize for assuming the worst in the situation. I hope you can stay safe
In Ontario and we are still waiting for the peak, but our number of daily cases seems to be decreasing everyday since the last 3 days with more people being tested so hopefully it is and we have actually passed our peak.
