Donald Trump is still POTUS until mid January. Isn't anybody afraid of the damage that he is going to do in the meantime?
Of course? But I've spent every day of the last four years nervous about what Trump would do. I'm taking a small amount of time to be hopeful and joyful for the future this weekend.

He will pardon all of his criminal friends but what else can he do? I’m genuinely curious.
I actually do think he will leave and stop fighting. Now if it was the reverse and Hillary would have beaten him, he would never leave without kicking and screaming because he hates her so much. I don’t think he feels the same way about Biden even though he makes fun of him.

Lots of us are. And he's started with his tantrums already. He got rid of three more department heads while we were busy celebrating and he was busy sulking. Biden's first agenda item is fixing the damage Trump has caused and will be causing in the next two months and eleven days.
But this is the Twitter thread for the transition team so we can see what's going on and how they're progressing. It's WONDERFUL to have someone that knows what's going on, believes in being open and honest (or as honest as a POTUS can be, lol), will be setting up an outstanding, knowledgeable cabinet, and can take the reins of leadership even if the "other guy" is unwilling to turn them over.

To build on this--I've never seen such an outpouring of communal joy as I did yesterday. We were hiking when we saw the results and when someone passing by asked what was happening, we all literally jumped up and down with happiness.
We got back to the car about 2.5 hours later and detoured to go downtown to join in a massive street party and car parade of Biden supporters. We had an impromptu celebration t with the neighbors, then went back downtown last night because it felt so damn good.
I feel like a huge burden has been lifted.
Hard work is ahead. We are not out of the woods with Trump. But his administration has caused me so much anxiety and shame over the past few years. Don't shame people as naive for being thrilled right now.

Yep I'm terrified. I was so excited yesterday and had the happy tears going on but today I'm starting to lean the other way. And apparently I haven't cut out all the Trump supporters from my social media like I thought I had so that's not helping.

OMG DH’s cousin warned me her parents were conservative, but his aunt just went off on me on IG last night. And I’m like OMG, this is worse than she told me!
Based on what we were briefed at work Thursday, plus the Government is still under a CR, he can do plenty before he’s out.
We still have to pass a budget. I wouldn’t be surprised if he pushes for a furlough.

Do you think he would go so far as to refuse to sign if the House and Senate pass something?
I fully understand the next few weeks could be crazy. I think he will continue to cause doubt and confusion until all results are officially certified. Then he will try to get electors to flip before they cast their votes. I assume he will comment on the special elections in GA. He may continue to refuse to leave and have to forcibly removed. I know there is much work to be done and much uncertainty. That being said I am also going to take a moment to enjoy this and appreciate the relief a Biden presidency will bring. I am so excited for a woman VP. I am excited we might actually get this virus under control. The future was bleak under 4 more years of #45.

I’m thinking the same thing. Plus, the schedule f BS is due Jan 19. Will his parting gift be to fire all the people he just Schedule Effed?

Absolutely. Particularly around apportionment and counting population regardless of legal status.
But better two-ish months than four more years + two-ish months.
Fundamentally this is it. Here's going to be President for 2.5 months. There isn't anything we can do about that. Of the two choices, that's better than 50.5 months.

I’m sure there are individual actions he could take or not take during the transition period but i think I am most afraid of him just not signing a budget. It would reach its tentacles into everything.
Based on the past 4 years, for the next 2-1/2 months we shouldn't be surprised by far he could potentially go. I'm in agreement with many on here...let's savor what we have for now because hopefully it should carry us through until January 20.

Fire Fauci, ignore the pandemic. Seriously, North and South Dakota are at the same COVID positivity levels as Northern Italy when they shut down in March. But virtually no actions are taking place, just a “suggestion“ to wear a mask. No one is banning indoor gatherings for Thanksgiving and Christmas. And rural America is already short on hospitals beds and barely has any testing capacity or contact tracing ability during normal times. Biden is going to have a full blown mega-crisis on his hands by Jan 20.
Do you think there would be any consequences to him doing anything too crazy? There’s still the run off in January... I feel like if he tries to pull any type of shenanigans this could potentially hurt the GOP with losing the senate.
Maybe it’s wishful thinking but I’m hoping the GOP would see him as a threat to losing the runoff and actually do something about it.

I'm worried about him doing damage...
Tbh I think there is a chance he's going to disappear onto his golf courses and completely disengage, which is of course harmful but I think its a true possibility.
We are talking about him doing things the way a "normal" person does things.
We have been living in the Upside Down for 4 years.
There is no way we are going to pop back up to reality here in the last 8 weeks. Especially when Trumper is facing arguably the most stressful thing thats ever happened to him lol.
I've heard that the two transition teams are actually working well together bc the Republican transition team is independent of most things Trump.

Are states going to listen to Biden’s and other officials recommendations?

I am nervous this is all a dream and he will still win the election. But I think this is because I keep seeing people posting on FB about how this is all a lie and Biden cheated. I have removed a few people this morning that I should have removed a long time ago.

The governor of SD was on a morning news program today and sounded like she doesn’t plan on listening to anyone so....
I feel bad for the people of SD. She’s a real piece of work.

I live in Nebraska and we are also getting hit pretty hard. My town got hit hard in April and May, and we are in far worse shape now than then. And it’s business as usual here.
No mask mandates. Our governor said the hospitals need to keep 10% of the beds open, or we have to start canceling elective surgeries. And I worked yesterday, and there were zero ICU beds open, and only 4 other beds. So, we are not in a good spot.
This spring we were so full that we were flying people out to Omaha multiple times a day, but they’re full now too. So that option is off the table.
And there’s zero leadership, and the community doesn’t care, and it’s exhausting to be in health care right now.
My parents live in S.D. and my mom is always raving about how much she hates Noem.
We were talking about the transition last night at work, and honestly, it’s terrifying how much worse it’ll be by January.
Can the thieves of joy start their own thread please? Thx
Seriously, this thread should be renamed to “What’s Trump gonna do in the next 10 weeks” so that those who click on it know what to expect. And then start a new thread for the transition team stuff.

For those who live in hard hit red states, what will it take for people to take social distancing seriously? Personally knowing someone in the ICU? I’m astounded and terrified and really don’t get the denial.
Thinking of how much N.Y. struggled with capacity in the spring and the oodles of hospitals, doctors, nurses, labs, medical schools etc they have, what are these rural counties going to do? This is unfortunately going to absorb Biden’s attention come January when there are so many other things he needs to work on.

Nothing? Idek.
They also can’t seem to grasp the fact that if the hospitals are full, they’ll be screwed if they have a heart attack, or get in a car accident.
And there will be a lot of pissed off people once their non-urgent end of the year stuff starts getting canceled.
