Looks like we're already breaking records across the PNW--Seattle already broke the high temp for June and it looks like we'll see the highest temp ever recorded here by Monday.
We might even break the high temp for NYC and DC. (106) And most people don't have AC. Seattle is the least air conditioned metro area in the country.
How's everyone doing? We put a portable AC in our bedroom last weekend, thank goodness. But it can barely keep up and it's only supposed to get hotter. 😭
H and I argued for years about getting central AC installed. I finally relented and we got it in November; I can't tell you how happy I am right now that we have it. It's 107 on my patio. We have AC-less friends on their way over now.
I’m in the OR valley and our high is forecasted to be 115° tomorrow. It’s 100° right now and it’s still an hour or so until we reach the hottest part of the day. Luckily, we have central AC (we just got it installed last year), but we’re definitely the exception around here. Most people are relying on window units or box fans, which is scary with these temps. Our plan is pretty much to hide in our house with all of the blinds and curtains closed until the heat breaks.
We are already on the schedule for a new a/c unit, but it doesn’t come until July 19. The 27 year old unit we have is just crying as it runs nonstop. I wonder if it will break break before this week is up! Right now it’s just old and inefficient.
@@@@@ We are still in school Monday and Tuesday. Our district has already said we have to keep the kids inside. Inside! On the last 2 days of school! Thankfully most parents have already said they are keeping their kids home.

We just went outside to run some errands and wow it is so hot. We are very fortunate to have AC but we still keep all the blinds and curtains closed to make it easier on the AC to keep the temperature down. We also decided to buy a big tower fan at Costco yesterday which is in our LR now blowing cool air on us. For people w/o AC I heard you can put an ice bath in front of a fan to get the air even cooler.

We watched the women's 10k meter run at Hayward Field (on tv--not in person) this morning; it was around 10am and already on its way to 90*--I can't fathom walking around the block in this shit, let alone a 10k meter run.

Oof. I can’t even imagine how miserable that event must have been. I didn’t even want to take my dog out to walk a couple of laps around the backyard this morning. Luckily, we have a lazy basset so his energy level and interest in spending time outside matches ours today. 😂

From another metro where a/c isn’t common … I feel your pain.
H installed window units in the bedrooms this year and it’s amazing how much better I feel about, well, everything. I still get anxiety around heat waves but not to the same extent.

I will add our saving grace is we turned off the heat to the hot tub so it's at 80°. We've been sitting in tubes in the hot tub. And tomorrow I want to take the paddle board out.
But on the flip side my Trump loving MIL is here. Who only wants to shop.
It’s warm! I finally got a portable AC earlier this month and I thought that getting it to the 3rd floor of my townhome might do me in, but not am I glad I got it.
I was out of the house from 9am to 5pm and I don’t run it all day if I’m not home so it was 92* upstairs when I got home. Am just glad it’ll cool down the room enough for me to be able to sleep tonight. Though I am worried some about my parents.
We have a weather station, and the high at our house today was 100.5, and at 6 pm it's still 97 outside.
We managed to get our house down to about 72 last night, but that was with a much lower overnight temp that I think we are supposed to get tonight. Currently it's about 83-84 in the living room (per the portable AC), 86 in the dining room (per the weather station receiver), and 82 in the hall (per the thermostat). It's probably a lot more pleasant down in the basement, so I don't know WTF we're hanging out up here. LOL!
We'll definitely be down there on Monday though. I'm actually kind of dreading Monday because I have to go to PT for my back. And because of a problem with my car, I'll be taking my H's giant black station wagon, which will be sitting in the sun for an hour from 10:30-11:30 am (no parking garage, doubtful I'll be able to find a shady spot).
Also, if you are in King County, KCLS just announced they are opening a handful of libraries on Monday as cooling shelters from 10am - 6pm.

I want to die. It’s so damn hot I’m melting.

They canceled the kiddos camp on Monday. Actually, any camp or anything that’s happening at any of our schools. So, no food pickup (free lunches etc.) either.
So grateful for a/c in our bedroom so we can sleep at least. It's 89 degrees in the rest of our house. Most concerned about my elderly mom, whose assisted living facility has a/c in the halls and common areas but not the apartments. I set up her giant-ass fan today, and most of the residents are propping their doors open to pull some of the cooler air from the hall into their apartments. Mom likes more privacy than that, but she has her doorstop ready to go.

Oh hey from the east side of the state! 102 today, 109 tomorrow, 111, 115, 111…and onward. The forecast currently doesn’t show when we will drop back out of the triple digits. 😬
While we are more accustomed to these temperatures, not more than typically 102-104 for a day, maybe two, before back down into the 90’s. UGH.
I want to let everyone know that if your daycare provider cannot keep the indoor temp at 82 or below they will have to close. Just a friendly heads up!

Oh man, I can empathize. We are in socal and also don’t have a/c. When I was pregnant with A we had several days/a week of 100+ my mom sprung for us to be in a hotel for a few days because it was so miserable. We
We've reached a new stage of heatwave. We're putting tin foil on cardboard to reflect the sun hitting our bedroom window. 🤪
a no A/C trick: if you have a box fan, put it in your window, seal it as well as you can, but point it to blow outward pulling the hot air out. It is slow and not dramatic but it takes the edge off the heat. A top floor window in the room with the hottest air is good or even better one in each room. That way the hottest and fast moving air (aka the air full of kinetic energy) is leaving your house rather than bouncing around in there hitting surfaces and becoming heat.
Oh hey from Vancouver Island where it's 38C! Just chilling out in our 4th floor condo with 3 fans on and no A/C. 😭😭😭😭😭
H and I have both lived in super hot places (him in Texas, me in Brazil) so we are not even thinking of going to the beach in this heat, but I just know lots of people here are going to be all "Great, it's so hot! Let's spend all day at the beach drink while we're at it!" And I just hope they don't suffer heat stroke.
We live in a townhouse and the heat rises so our upstairs is pretty bad. We had a pre-planned overnight stay near our house so we have AC but I feel so so bad for our pet sitter tonight. She was fine being there but she is getting a huge tip 😳. The last time I checked our thermostats it was 86-91. I wish we could take our cats to a hotel, I would pay crazy prices but I think they would be more miserable there. We do have one portable AC so we will just live in that room. I'm hoping by next year we have enough saved for Central AC but TBH I'm going to probably do it anyways and just figure it out later.
Simple things like evaporating water on your skin (a spray/mister bottle with ice in the tank, a wet washcloth from the fridge) can make intense heat without a/c more bearable. Sometimes it's nicer outside in the shade (hopefully with a breeze) than inside- especially if you have a dark roof and insulation meant to keep heat in. I'm so sorry, that's dangerous stuff- I hope there are shelters and safe air-conditioned places for people to go in the day if it's too hot at home/they don't have a home.
