the Sheriff spoke to the press and gave a lot of info, including that the suspect had a meeting with school admin. and his parents the day of. I don't know what else can be done, if flags are being seen, parents are called in, and school admin. gets involved, yet this terror still happens.
these fucking guns.
Charge the parents for giving their kid access to their gun. It seems like that is the only way to get parents to lock their shit up.

Apparently threats against several school districts in the area around Oxford were made on social media yesterday. Our district decided to remain open, but it sounds like several chose to close just in case. Really hoping this is just a case of kids being idiots and not realizing the ramifications of what they see as a joke/prank.

I just looked on our local news and 61 schools in our area are closed including my kids’s district.

We are on the whole other side of the county and are closed today. I'm ok with that decision
This sums it up on what kind of people these parents are:
“You see Mr. Trump, I need you to stop common core. My son struggles daily, and my teachers tell me they hate teaching it but the HAVE to. Their pay depends on these stupid f****** test scores. I have to pay for a Tutor, why? Because I can’t figure out 4th grade math. I used to be good at math. I can’t afford a Tutor, in fact I sacrifice car insurance to make sure my son gets a good education and hopefully succeeds in life. My parents teach at a school where their kids come from illegal immigrant parents. Most of their parents are locked up. They don’t care about learning and threaten to kill my mom for caring about their grades. Do you realize Mr. Trump that they get free tutors, free tablets from our Government so they can succeed. Why cant my son get those things, do we as hard working Americans not deserve that too”
His father bought the gun four days before the shooting. And there were rumors of something happening at the school yesterday so some students stayed home.
The video of the kids he tried to lure out by claiming to be a police officer shook me. Once the shooter used the word bro, the kids all fled through a window.
I saw this on TikTok and it sent chills down my spine.
There's a rumor the parents bought the gun on Black Friday as an early Christmas gift to their son. I hope it's not true. I mean I know they bought the gun but I hope it wasn't FOR their 15 year old.

We're about 80 miles away and a threat against my son's school (7th and 8th grades) was found written on a piece of paper after school yesterday. Parent were notified about 8:30 last night via email. They said the local PD did a thorough investigation and determined the threat was not credible, that there'd be casual police presence at school today, and that kids would no longer be allowed to use their backpacks during the school day. A lot of people kept their kids at home today. My son's at school. I'm a little nervous, but honestly, he's probably safer today than he would be on other days.

They have confirmed this was not the shooter. It was a plain clothes officer trying to be “relatable”. I’ll try to find the article to link.

@@@ and TW***
Even though the plain clothes officer was confirmed, the actual video is still chilling. The teacher saying, "we're not willing to take that risk" and everyone hearing the officer say, "Bro" to which the group started all saying, "red flag, red flag" and tumbling out the window into the courtyard to run to safety - that had to have been a terrifying moment for all those students. Even though it turned out not to be real, the fight or flight response in most of their systems will have burned that experience in their memory and it will take a while to get passed that and manage likely PTSD from it.
I don’t know what the current training is but all along I thought that they were taught absolutely not to open the door for anyone, that someone would come around with a key and unlock doors when it was safe. So I think the kids’ response was just right and the cop should know a bunch of teens aren’t necessarily going to buy “it’s okay, I’m a cop, you can come out.”

Weren’t Republicans absolutely livid about COVID lockdowns because keeping kids out of school was detrimental to their well-being?

I cried watching the video. Those kids must have been terrified! My son (14) also saw the video and said he would have done the same thing as those kids, he said “what cop says bro?”

I live in a Trump-loving, “unmask our kids” area, where the parents have been upset over every closure or quarantine, because kids should be in person no matter what. These same parents are absolutely irate at the superintendent for not closing the district today.
In another nearby district, in an even redder area, apparently an elementary was on lockdown this morning due to a threat. According to Facebook, it was a parent who was upset over the mask mandate the school instituted yesterday and decided to capitalize on everything going on here.
We have absolutely been trained to not open the door, for anyone, ever. We are only allowed to leave our classrooms when someone unlocks the door from the outside.
My 10 year old's district is closed tomorrow. We're about an hour away. We got an email earlier today saying that they're aware of a mass of threats, but were working with the FBI to determine credibility, and weren't closing.
Then about an hour ago they called us, canceling school. They still say there's not a specific threat, but are doing it out of an abundance of caution. I really want to believe them. I haven't told my kid why she doesn't have school yet, because I can't figure out how to tell her it's not safe to go tomorrow, but will be all well and good by Monday.
Ugh threat at high school in our district, so they are asynchronous today.
I am so angry that 22 years after Columbine our children are still dealing with this shit.
Liked for support.
I feel physically sick today. It makes me disgusted that we're still trying to convince the "all lives matter" crowd that our children's lives should hold more value than their fucking guns.
To everyone impacted by this, today and any other day, hugs to you and yours.
I just read an article about so many of the schools in our area, northern Michigan, that are closed due to violence threats. My god, the shitshow that is gun safety (or rather lack there of) is stupid.
This did catch my attention: CAP laws/Child Access Prevention being advocated by Michigan's AG Nessel.
Good. What kind of trash parents buy their minor child a gun for Christmas, and LOL about it when a teacher reports that he was searching for ammunition? JFC.
An Oxford High School teacher had recently reported Ethan Crumbley after they spotted him using his phone to search for ammunition, the prosecutor said.
School officials left a voicemail and email for Jennifer Crumbley, who did not respond, according to McDonald. But Crumbley sent a text message to her son that said "LOL I'm not mad at you. You have to learn not to get caught."
On the morning of the shooting, the prosecutor said, Crumbley's teacher found a drawing on Ethan's desk depicting a handgun, bullet and shooting victim, with the words "the thoughts won't stop, help me."
