This is 19 miles from my house. A (not super close) friend’s husband is a teacher in the building. We’re never going to fix this because thoughts and prayers are not a solution.

It’s horrific, and yet is also just another day in America. The NRA needs to be taken down because they have enabled and supported these massacres becoming commonplace.

No words can describe why our country values guns over the lives of kids.
There’s a video made by a kid inside the school where the alleged shooter was posing as a sheriff. Thankfully, those kids didn’t let them In and went out the window.

@@ (not sure that’s necessary given the topic of the thread, but wanted to be careful just in case)
Our superintendent just sent out an email stating that several teachers in our district have immediate family at the high school (either significant others who teach there, or kids who attend). Given that our district borders Oxford, it’s very likely that many kids in our district have extended family who go there as well. It’s absolutely heartbreaking.
This is just...horrifying and routine at the same time. It will never end, will it?
No. No it won't. Ever.
This. This country is truly SOOOOO backwards. A cold piece of steel is more important to millions of people than people's LIVES. (But I'm sure many of these people also claim to be pro-life...)
The fact that masks gets them up in arms, but not guns and school shootings, is .... just, stunning. They cry about their kids being traumatized over wearing masks but not about being afraid for their lives while being shot at. IN SCHOOL.

His father bought the gun four days before the shooting. And there were rumors of something happening at the school yesterday so some students stayed home.

The video of the kids he tried to lure out by claiming to be a police officer shook me. Once the shooter used the word bro, the kids all fled through a window.

Buying a gun on Black Friday is about as American as it gets. FFS.
This is just our lives now. It is horrifying and absolutely what we can expect going forward if we refuse to change our gun laws. Which I am sure we will continue to do.
I am so sorry for the families who now have their lives ruined.
Michigan residents - look up your state senators and reps, contact them, and DEMAND they support the common sense gun reform bills mentioned in this article.
I just emailed mine. If you don't live in MI, look up your own state legislation bills and contact your state senators and representatives.
Also, this is a Give No Fucks issue on social media - I don't have a single reservation about who I piss off in discussing this. I posted about it yesterday, and my GOP (because "personal responsibility" and "taxes") FIL responded that this wouldn't have happened if there had been laws in place that held parents responsible for kids getting access to guns. So today I posted the above article, and quoted the part that says there is, in fact, a DEMOCRATIC sponsored bill held up in committee that would have done exactly that. I'm sure he'll love that, but, again, GNF.
the Sheriff spoke to the press and gave a lot of info, including that the suspect had a meeting with school admin. and his parents the day of. I don't know what else can be done, if flags are being seen, parents are called in, and school admin. gets involved, yet this terror still happens.

Did anyone confirm it was the shooter? News outlets were unwilling to state that yesterday, especially considering the timeline. Police allege he was apprehended within 3 minutes of bring on scene and that there were officers available to herd the window climbing students into a nearby building.
"Later, someone outside the room who claimed to be with the sheriff's office told Kluska and his classmates that all was safe and they could come out, a video the freshman recorded shows.
"We're not willing to take that risk right now," the teacher replies. It's not clear who the person at the door was.

The Oakland County Sheriffs Dept. reviewed cameras inside the school and said the person who knocked on the door was NOT the shooter. It was most likely a plain clothes officer who used the word “bro” in an effort to “a bring down the tension”. (I read this on the MichiganLive FB page, which is a reputable news source)

A friend today asked me why I seemed out of sorts. I replied "the days after school shootings are just so emotionally draining. I'm a wreck....the students are a wreck...."
And then the normalcy of the above statement hit me. This is so frequent that I automatically mentally prepare for "the day after school shootings." WTF
