shauni27 48 min is fast! Awesome! And sending you good thoughts for the soreness.
thank you! So far, minimal soreness--I trained a bit and have been doing 100 pushups and 150 squats after my runs for the last few weeks, so I hope it is not too bad. Tomorrow I imagine will be worse.
A high school acqaintance still takes monthly pictures of both of her kids with the same stuffed animal and posts them on Facebook. For some reason, when, on occasion, I log in there, it shows them to me.
The kids are 17 and 13.

omg this is terrible. TERRIBLE. I knew someone who did weekly photos of her now 7 year old, but I had to unfollow her. Some dear friends still do monthly photos of their 3 and 5 year old and I love them (the people) but do not understand why they still do this, lol.
cmeon, I literally do not understand why they are getting rid of the backpacks those last weeks??
It's the last week of school here, too- and the return of an annual middle school specific annoyance- no backpacks allowed duri g the last week. Small purses (amd the like, whatever that means) are okay.
They still have to bring laptop/brick, phone, writing supplies/notebooks, water bottles, lunches, various IDs/passes/crap, but no large bags allowed. I sent DD with a water sling (with a big pocket), and a small tote bag- she said the door woman grumbled about the tote, but ultimately let her through (FFS).
Apparently half the kids showed up with backpacks anyway.
One more year of middle school. One more dumb year.
What? Why? If they still have homework and need books/etc, this is asinine. If they give up any pretense of being productive for the last week, then I guess it would make sense...
It's a safety (lol) measure, IOW- theatrics. We are at a rough school, there have been multiple weapons on campus this year, but no one is searching "purses or small bags" or pockets or waistbands, so yeah.
Also, I like the National, but my husband is obsessed and sometimes I have to be like "my dude, I need a break from this dirge-like vibe."
But. Like. How? Maybe other teens are different but getting any sort of decent picture from my 12 year old is impossible. If I suggested a monthly picture with a stuffed animal she would take my phone and put it somewhere I’d never find it again. As she should.

There were no backpacks allowed at DD’s school last week either but they also didn’t even pretend to do any work so it was fine. Apparently the high school doesn’t allow backpacks at all. That will be interesting.
For people who go to concerts regularly, how strict are bag policies? I am going to 2 concerts this week, and both venues say that bags need to be no bigger than 4.5 x 6.5 inches. My go-to bag is 5.5 x 7.5. Are they going to whip out a ruler on me? Should I borrow something smaller just to be safe?
On another note, grandparents who agree to help out their kids/grandkids, and then shit-talk them to others for asking for help, has become a huge hot button issue for me. Based on the gossip from both my MIL and my own parents, this seems to be a big topic of conversation among the grandparent set. I will spare you all my whole rant, but it pisses me off so much.

It really depends. Some are very strict. I would bring something smaller because having to take your bag back to the car would really, really suck.

Our HSs don't do this (and don't really have lockers), it is a district-wide MS policy.
We do have strict HS promotion policies, kids have to pass all core classes all 3 years or they are held back, so they will be pushing some kids to finish/submit work until the last minute of the last day- but kids like mine will be doing a whole lot of nothing all week.

This is our second week of mayhem. L has tech rehearsal and show week so needs to be at the theater every day. H has meetings/dinners/fun with work all week. So all kid stuff except for am things fall to me this week.
We are also getting our house cleaned for the first time in ages tomorrow. So this weekend was a huge lift of picking up. I’m really hoping tomorrow afternoon will be worth it.
A tried out for pre-team gymnastics. After 2 days of try outs they sent a really nice note saying he exceeded their expectations and asked him to try out for the team. He’s excited about the prospect, but the commitment and cost makes me a bit worried. We shall see.
I just need to get to next Monday and I feel like I’ll be able to breathe.

I feel like I need a day to recover from the long weekend. We had so much fun and got a lot of stuff done, but it was busy and I felt like we had no downtime. MH is going away this weekend and I told DS it's going to be a quiet weekend here.
I slept so bad last night. Then I didn't get up and go to the gym. Maybe I'll go this afternoon.
I'm waiting to hear if I get a job offer today! The recruiter sent me the benefits info on Friday for me to review but said she would be in touch on Tue. I'm anxious! This is not the job interview that I posted about being late for last week...that was just a weird interview and I'm not interested in the company anyways. This other company is a much better fit and its in my field.
It was a nice long weekend with pretty equal parts relaxing and activity and I think I really needed that after how busy we've been. But I also took some time to update our calendar with everything coming up and how full June is already is making my eye twitch. But honestly we create our own chaos with some of the stuff and my kid is living her best life and I'm her ride LOL Growing up my family didn't have money for very many extras so I will pretty much let her try anything that catches her interest. Some things stick and others don't but I'm glad she can try even if it keeps us busy.
Kid and I went to see the Little Mermaid this weekend and we really liked it.
I regularly eat Noosa yogurt and tried the honey flavor and hated it but then this weekend I saw orange blossom honey and I really like orange so I thought I'd give it a try and it might be my new favorite flavor.

Last fall I went to 2 football games at the same place, 2 weeks apart. One week I was able to take in my bag, which is less than 1 inch too long according to bag policies; the next week I wasn't.

Pretty strict at the venues I attend. They have guides at the metal detectors and X-ray machines. They do measure. I got sick of playing the guessing game and bought a clear crossbody on Amazon. It was $10x
ETA- the one I bought is now $15. Here’s a $10 one Clear Bag Stadium Approved Crossbody | Small Clear Bags for Women & Men to Stand Out in Style & Security at the Games, Events a.co/d/21VT08V
We just had the best weekend and I absolutely don't want to be at work today. Friday H and I took DS to his grandparents and went to see a jazz band at our brewery, and met up with a bunch of friends. Saturday, since DS was still at his grandparents, I got to go out on our boat alone (with the other family we own it with) with no one to worry about but myself. That was awesome lol. We grilled out and drank some beers and met up with all of our other lake friends that we only see in the summer. Picked DS up Saturday afternoon at his cousin's baseball game, so I got to be a good aunt and get seeing one of those out of the way. Saturday night we just made a fire at home and ordered pizza. Sunday, we slept in, did our workouts and then went to the pool for a few hours. Went to a friends house in the evening and grilled steaks. Yesterday, boated all day again, this time with all of us. Got home early enough to do some reading on my porch and get some stuff done for this week. It was just such a great taste of summer and now I'm pissed off that my school isn't out yet, lol.

The window guy is here. Singular. Meaning he can't do one of the jobs (adding more ball bearings or something like that to our sliding glass door that's super heavy and barely slides), and we'll have to schedule another day for that. I thought that when I said "I need you to come today because today is the day I'm home from work" it was implied that I meant "and do all the work, not leave some for another day"?!
I am just very anxious about a couple of things - a tooth thing which is a huge trigger for me, and a paperwork thing - and work is also being anxious-making with last minute stuff that is messing with my grand plan to be the! best! ever! at my job. I am trying to remember that fuck it, it's not my company, and the other stuff will work out somehow and probably not involve all of my teeth falling out, but this window thing is not helping.

No backpacks at Miss R's school the last 2 days of school (thursday and friday) for safety reasons. This whole year at her school has been a hot mess of violence.
I only use those clear bags for concerts/sporting events now. Way to many experiences of having the rules applied differently. Once going into a college basketball game they turned me a way for my micro purse. Well joke is on them because I just put it under my winter coat and then just walked in. Every single year the bag requirements get smaller, I swear. I can really get ranting on this topic if you get me going lol. The people who end up being targeted (mostly women) are the least likely to bring say a firearm into a venue. All of it is just for show, but I just decided to stop fighting against it.
No doubt this is more flameful than random, but...I take weekly pictures of my kids. I have since their birth. They will be 13 and 9 this year.
I'm horrible at sitting down to upload them, but I have, historically, posted them to Facebook. Usually in 3-month bursts. I make a photobook of each kid's pictures each year.
Additionally flameful: in all of the years doing this, we have never repeated an outfit. Well, once, DS re-wore a shirt and I didn't catch it until the next week. Still.
But also, I'm stopping the pictures this year. We're just doing it until their birthdays, then we're wrapping up the tradition.

I just saw Duran Duran on sunday night and they were measuring all bags. Mine was too tall so either I could pay $10 to store it in a locker or take it back to my car and carry what I NEED (cc, dl, phone, car keys) in my pocket. It went back to my car.
Long weekend wasn't long enough. We spent Saturday cleaning the house and yard for my DH to have a bbq on Sunday for a friend who is moving away. Then we had that bbq and the neighborhood block party on Sunday. And monday, there was some relax time, but I was a bit annoyed at DH about something that happened at the block party, so not too relaxing. Now, I am back to reality with working from home as DS is off on summer break, trying to appeal my property tax assessment, figuring out insurance, and worrying about my parents (mom went to hospital over weekend with gall bladder issues and will likely need surgery, and dad has been passing blood and had to get testing done today). Fun times.
Anyone know if there is a way to get health insurance outside of normal enrollment periods? I was on my DH's insurance (I am part time) when he was laid off in January. We figured that he would get a new job and I would go on his insurance again, but now that he has a job with a small company, the insurance price is ridiculous for me, and it is too late to get on my work's insurance (past the "life event" deadline). So do I just go without insurance for the rest of the year until open enrollment, or is there another option for me? I hate to wait as I know I have some outstanding health issues that probably should be looked at before then, but at least I can stop worrying about my DH and DS's lack of insurance because we are going to just deal with the price and get the insurance for them.

When I was 18, I had to gently break the news to my aunt that my sister and I were no longer interested in being on calendars. I still feel guilty (and yes this is the aunt who just passed away and left us everything). Omg

As a parent of teenagers, I'm amazed. One of mine doesn't allow photos at all, and the other does sparingly, but won't allow me to post them.
Instead of Taylor Swift tickets, I just dropped $500 on live action Bluey Tickets. LOL
DS is in a rec soccer league this summer, there is a snack sign up. Why is this a thing? I just assumed It was what happened in movies. Why doesn't everyone just bring their own snacks? lol
daisycat I'm pretty sure your H getting a new job is also a qualifying life event for changing your insurance, so you might have a fresh window of time to enroll.

I'm in Maui this week and sprained my ankle on a hike yesterday. I can barely walk. We had plans to do more hiking and snorkeling and I won't be able to do much of it. I'm glad the injury wasn't worse, but very disappointed that I'll be limping around the rest of the week.
