We just had the best weekend and I absolutely don't want to be at work today. Friday H and I took DS to his grandparents and went to see a jazz band at our brewery, and met up with a bunch of friends. Saturday, since DS was still at his grandparents, I got to go out on our boat alone (with the other family we own it with) with no one to worry about but myself. That was awesome lol. We grilled out and drank some beers and met up with all of our other lake friends that we only see in the summer. Picked DS up Saturday afternoon at his cousin's baseball game, so I got to be a good aunt and get seeing one of those out of the way. Saturday night we just made a fire at home and ordered pizza. Sunday, we slept in, did our workouts and then went to the pool for a few hours. Went to a friends house in the evening and grilled steaks. Yesterday, boated all day again, this time with all of us. Got home early enough to do some reading on my porch and get some stuff done for this week. It was just such a great taste of summer and now I'm pissed off that my school isn't out yet, lol.
this in fact sounds like my dream weekend.
It was! Except now I'm irritated at getting back to normal life and the healthy food I usually eat during the week
DS is in a rec soccer league this summer, there is a snack sign up. Why is this a thing? I just assumed It was what happened in movies. Why doesn't everyone just bring their own snacks? lol
This has happened in every single sports league I've ever signed my kids up for.

I'm so glad it's a 3-day work week for me. And the last week of school. And I only have to make one more school lunch this year! So many wins for this week.
The weekend was pretty good. DD had a great time at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals, although the team was disappointed with their score. We were back home on Saturday night, so I was still able to get a few things done around the house on Sunday and Monday and still have some time to relax.
Outside of that, I'm feeling a bit sad and worried about elderly parent issues: -My mom bumped one of the knobs on our gas stove, so the house was filling with gas for 2 days. (My parents stayed one night with DS at home and then met us at the OM World Finals (DH, DD, and I left for World Finals before them), so it happened at some point while they were there Wed evening - Thursday midday.) Thankfully DS and I got home in time where we had 7 hours to air out the house before bedtime. We stayed out of the house for a solid 4 hours after we got home. My mom has done before, so I don't understand why she doesn't obsessively check the knobs before she leaves the kitchen, before bedtime, and before she leaves the house. I am so mad about it. I went out and bought safety covers again, though I'm not sure if I can trust her anymore, even with those on. -We invited MIL to come watch DD at OM World Finals, but she had to drive herself. She didn't map the address to the hotel where we were staying (she was going to meet us there and then ride with us to the performance location). I'm not exactly sure how she expected to make it there without having any directions. She called DH because she got lost on the way (shocker), so DH sent her a map link. Then before she went home, he showed her (again) how to use the map app on her phone so that she could get home without getting lost. She used to do sales and went to multiple states, so somehow she was able to get to those places; I think age and/or whatever drugs (Rx or otherwise) she's on impact her logic & reasoning abilities.

Yes and it’s basically 80% of the reason my kids play sports.

It's so ridiculous. One of the leagues we played in the first person did a GOODY bag for each kid. So because they were first everyone after did the same after. Until it was my turn and I brought a box of granola bars and no beverages.
It's a 60 minute soccer game. Kids will be fine with just their water bottles.
For people who go to concerts regularly, how strict are bag policies? I am going to 2 concerts this week, and both venues say that bags need to be no bigger than 4.5 x 6.5 inches. My go-to bag is 5.5 x 7.5. Are they going to whip out a ruler on me? Should I borrow something smaller just to be safe?
Depends on the venue. I went to one in a NFL stadium and there were trash cans full of thrown away purses 😬

That didn't last long. She, in all liklihood, is being suspended for calling a teacher a pedophile. She was asked to place her backpack in the girls' locker room during PE and her teacher followed her in there to make sure she did what was asked. She called him a pedo behind his back loud enough for him to hear.
She's in the office right now. She doesn't care if she's suspended OR expelled. FML
This weekend is E's recital, so dress rehearsal on Friday, recital on Saturday. Throw in a Saturday morning birthday party and it's packed.
Also, my mom will not be at the recital because we got our dates crossed and she's going to a genealogy conference. Pour one out for that ticket cost and fees.
You have to pay to buy a ticket to your child’s recital? Beyond the recital/costume fees paid to the studio?
Feel free to call me tacky and nosy(lol), but how much do the tickets run for the show?

You didn't ask me, but DS has his piano recital this weekend, its $10 a ticket. DD'S dance studio also charges for tickets to their recital, I believe it is somewhere between $10-$20 a person but they actually rent out a nice auditorium at the big university downtown that usually houses shows/plays. She was only in preschool dance this year so her "recital" was free and at the dance studio. DS's piano recital is in a church basement lol.
wait, I have a follow up, pinkdutchtulips. I know she has failed 2 years and they are still pushing her out and not having her redo anything (against your wishes), but could the expulsion be enough to have her redo a year?

I know we've covered this, but the end of year theme days at school are pissing me off. I wish DD was ok with just not participating in some of them when it just isn't going to work out, but she gets so upset. Today was red, white and blue - fine, I can pull out last summer's July 4th clothes and do that. But Thursday is dress as your favorite musician and she wants to be Whitney Houston. I'm like ummmmm I don't really know how to accomplish that for you - if we had more time I'd just get a tshirt with her on it, but Amazon doesn't have any that will get here in time. So then she suggests Taylor Swift. I'm like ok we can pull off her look from her teen years and show her a pic of her in a dress and short cowboy boots with a guitar. But she doesn't wanna wear a dress and she tells me she wants a wig. I tell her, you have the exact hair that TS had back then, blond and curly. NOOOO MOM I WANT A WIG. Then she just walks away mad. I can't.

Ours are $15 per ticket. And trying to get the 11 tickets we need for all the family members we need together not in the back row when they go on sale (they sell out for all but the last 2 rows within minutes of going in sale) is like the hunger games. Oh, we do get 2 free tickets per family actually though.
On year, I roped my dh into logging on and helping me with the mad dash to clicking the seats before they were all gone because he made fun of me for stressing out about it, and the jerk scored us all seats back to back in the 2nd and 3rd row. I have never lived that down. I have had him help me again at every hunger games recital ticket sale since, and we've never gotten closer than row R since then even with both of us trying so it was definitely a fluke.

Around here it seems we either pay a blanket recital fee or pay for the costume and tickets individually. I think we come out ahead because we had 7 people at the recital this year and the girls had fancy costumes but if they had a simpler costume or just H and I went it would be better for us if our studio did tickets.

Oh yeah, it's at the local university's concert hall. Tickets worked out to $38 each with the fees. The dang place is across town, so going to the box office is a total pain. I am never over there for any other reason.
What I'm not a fan of, is they claim if your kid is only in the first act and wants to watch the second that parents need a ticket for the kid. LOL, so many people left after the first half with little kids, there were plenty of seats. I side eye that a lot.
Her studio before this used the same concert hall and the same cost for tickets.

omg you have 11 family members going to a recital? Sounds like H's family lol. Everyone goes to everything.
daisycat I'm pretty sure your H getting a new job is also a qualifying life event for changing your insurance, so you might have a fresh window of time to enroll.
I will check on that - I thought it was the loss of the insurance that triggered it, but hopefully I am wrong.

Ugh it's the worst. When it looked like things were going to continue on with the great nieces I nipped it in the bud. We still have 3 kids at home and the great nieces have aunt(s) and an uncle, they can carry it on if they wish to.
I'm so OVER contractors. We're in the homestretch of a kitchen remodel. We had our counters installed 2.5 weeks ago. DH was home with them, and when they left he told me they did a terrible job. When I got home, I noticed what he was talking about...they are supposed to be "seamless" but you can see all the seams. One section of slab doesn't meet up with the other, so they filled it in with an insane amount of caulk. There's a noticeable crack in my biggest piece of slab, and left my kitchen an absolute mess (saw dust in my drawer tracks, glue on my floor, etc). The same day, I notified the company of these issues, followed up with an email and pictures. Later that evening, as we were walking out the door to go to DS's baseball game, the installers came back stating they were there to "assess the damage" and was it a convenient time. When I said it wasn't because we were leaving and they should have called before just showing up, they got all pissy and left. I sent another email with this information.
A few days later, I get a text from the coordinator requesting more photos. I send them, and heard crickets after that. I sent daily follow up emails that were never returned. I finally contacted Lowe's (I bought the counters through them, it's a different company installing them), and they reached out on my behalf this morning. I get a text that my installation date was this Thursday between 12:00-5:00. I respond that that isn't what we agreed to, someone was supposed to come out and inspect the shoddy installation job and tell me what the next steps were. I also stated I am not prepared at that short of notice for a total replacement because I'll have to get back in touch with my plumber to remove the sink/faucet/garbage disposal. I said that if they wanted to come between 12:00-3:00 to do an assessment of what needs repaired, that I was available then (I have a doctor's appointment at 3:45) and again, crickets.

DD's recital tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for kids. You can earn free tickets by volunteering to work backstage. Professional shows that she's been a part of come with one free ticket and then 8 discounted ones. The costumes for the recital are provided by the wardrobe department and not kept, there's a $125 recital fee that's due at the beginning of the year. Honestly, I gave up griping about the cost of dance a while ago. It's insane, between the leotards, tights, pointe shoes, summer intensives.. she absolutely loves it though and it's her thing.
I started Lexapro about a year ago, but I've thought my dose was a bit too high for a while now. I have an appointment with my doctor later in June so I thought I'd cut my dose in half about a week and a half ago to see and I have been SO productive. Hopefully I can find a balance. I obviously started it for a reason, but I apparently need a bit of that anxiety to actually get shit done too.

Oh dang I WISH we could rent/be provided costumes!! We're swimming in recital costumes at this point and I picture the $$$$ signs attached to each one LOL But, like you, I don't gripe either because she LOVES dance so much.
These recital ticket fees are wild to me. Our old studio that we just left charged a $50 recital fee plus a costume fee of no more than $75 per class, which included an onsite seamstress for any issues. No tickets, no volunteering, no students allowed in the audience in costume. There are paid employees/staff plus older dancers that help with the littlest dancers during the acts for ages 3-6. The new studio also charges a recital fee, no tickets.
DD also performs with a non-profit preprofessional ballet company; we do have to buy tickets for those performances. No discount or freebies but we do get early access to buy tickets. She just got placed into the junior company so will use company costumes for everything now; no more costumes to buy except for the custom ones for YAGP, etc. Which are way more than the catalog costumes, unfortunately. Thankfully she is repeating her variation from last year that she competed for competition dance team and her custom costume for Cupid can be let out to use for one more year.

We pay a $50 recital fee and then pay about $15 per ticket. There used to be a minimum number of tickets we had to buy but they did away with that when the shows consistently sold out. I think we paid about $200 for costumes this year - that was for 3 costumes.

Add me to the didn’t sleep well and don’t want to be at work club.
I left a review on Yelp for a local business, I summarized my experience (it wasn’t a good one), the owner asked me to take down the review, I refused and now he is threatening me. It was for TSA precheck and he said he has cameras and is going to show the TSA that what I stayed in my review was “unlawful interference”. Ok guy! I’m not responding any further.
