This is one of those weird weekends where C has Friday and Monday off, I have only Monday off, and H has neither.
It’s soggy today. I’m glad C got to spend some time outside yesterday, because that’s not gonna happen today. He has his first guitar recital this evening. His guitar teacher does gigs at a local brewery, and a few times a year he’ll have his students do their recital between his sets. So parents get to drink good beer, and kids get to do their first “gig.” I’m a little nervous for C…told him he can change his mind if he wants to, but he says he wants to do it even though he is nervous.
We discovered on our walk the other day that one of our neighbors has a Deloren. Now H can’t stop talking about how cool it would be to have one. I don’t think I’d ever actually seen one in person before.
It’s very raw and rainy here and it’s going to be like this all weekend. Both the xc meets will be cancelled. I looove this fall storms and I’m enjoying it.
DD got her permit yesterday. I’m so excited for this next stage! One less taxi passenger!

Somebody (I hope) accidentally grabbed my kid’s band instrument out of their little cubbies and took it home yesterday. My mom, who picked her up from school, tried to go in to help her look for it, but it’s apparently against the rules for her to do so. They told her I needed to email the band teacher, so I did immediately and also called the front office to see if I could leave a message for the band teacher imploring her to check her email prior to going off the clock for the weekend if she had a chance because we had a missing instrument. The front office was rude AF to me and basically told me to shut up and get off the phone. They treated me like a hysterical woman and I got pretty nasty with them in the phone over it.
I really, really hate school. I don’t know when everyone became so difficult about everything. A $1500 instrument that my daughter had for a grand total of 3 days is gone and no one cares. Of course, the band teacher did not check her email before leaving for the weekend, so we have absolutely no closure and I’m hoping it reappears on Monday.

A has a nearly constant wimpy cough. It gets better if we give him a puff of my Albuterol. I keep hoping it'll go away and it hasn't so I think I need to find a walk in clinic for him today. Of course he has his first (and likely last) gymnastics meet tomorrow.
He woke us up at 5:30 coughing. I hope I can fall back asleep. This is too early to be up on a Saturday.

We do fall festival at my work and every year a community member brings a tricked out Delorean. It is literally the coolest car I've ever seen. Everybody always fawns all over it--it's quite the hit!

Saturday school for my kids was cancelled due to the tropical storm which means we’re doing a lazy movie day in pajamas and I am not mad about it. Might try to declutter a bit too. We all slept in too!
My kids scout group (not BSA) needs a leader and nobody volunteered so I am stuck with it. Ughhh. The meetings aren’t run in English so I need to really prep for them. Why do I do this to myself?

Also because we have small kids the rescue pup I want needs to go to a foster home first but they don’t have one yet. After she’s there for 2 weeks we can meet her. But I want to now!!! LOL. I hope she works out. She’s so beautiful.

Did someone say scouts?
Not sure what org you’re with or what their programming is/leader support is like, but I’ve got 5 years under my belt and am happy to share any and all ideas/activities I can.

Haha! Thanks! It’s a Ukrainian boy scout org. I have bins of resources in my basement but it’s been like 20 years since I’ve dusted them off. I will definitely use this board as a sounding board though as I need ideas because my skills are dusty. I was really hoping someone else would step up!!
I'm in the same region as half of those who have posted about the weather here so far, so same. I am actually really glad it's not good weather because I have a lot of work I need to do this weekend and now I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything! I do need groceries sometime this weekend and I'm not sure when to get them. I feel like going now would be fine because it's barely raining, but I bet everyone else has the same idea and I'm not really in the mood to fight crowds.
We are watching Your Honor and it's so good so far! Bryan Cranston is a great actor - but I feel like he was typecast in this show, too. There are a lot of similarities between things he does on this show and things he did on Breaking Bad. It's kind of distracting because I keep thinking "ok Walt". At least he knows how to pick shows that have excellent writing. We are also only through episode 5 so I don't want to hear it if it doesn't stay good - my H is extremely picky about TV and it's nice that we've finally found a new show that we're both really into. Too bad it's only 2 seasons.
We never lost power, but my parents did for a few hours. Not to worry since they have a whole house generator and gas. My mom said E ended up sleeping in another bedroom because her windows were right next to it.
Internet has been out, which isn’t a huge deal, but we don’t have cable.
Also, my kid was apparently the only kid at the magic show last night so she got to all the things and was in heaven.
I just finished painting the ceiling in her room. The valspar purple to white ceiling paint sucks and I’m mad. I used behr at the beach and it was 100x better. Should have gone to HD.
It’s really nice here this weekend, which is great, but I’m starting to long for some fall weather. We had a rainy Friday about a week ago and that was so nice.
No major plans for this weekend. DS2 has a soccer game this afternoon and DS1’s friend set up a “boys night out” at his house, which just cracked me up. This is the first time he’s gone on a fully kid-initiated outing.
Does anyone on here know about 3D printing? I want to have the library print something for me for a Halloween costume, but I need a file and to make sure it will print the right size.

Xavier was invited to a birthday party today at a jump place. He just told me that we have to pay $25 for his admission. That’s not a bday party! That’s just dudes hanging out.
Is this the norm now? I’ve never made a kid pay when we take them along with us for a bday celebration (or anything for that matter but definitely not bdays). I probably sound like an asshole but it definitely surprised me to have to pay. And I get to drive 40 minutes there and back bc it’s 4.5 hours. Fun Saturday for me! Lol.

I slept until almost 7am and DS(7) didn't ask to get up until 7:22. He's playing in his room and I'm enjoying coffee and quiet.
DS has a playdate this afternoon.
Tomorrow we're having friends over for hanging out & dinner. Their two boys love playing with all the vehicle toys I haven't yet given away and DS plays video games so the adults get to chat.

We are home. Our cab actually came at 6.30am and we got to the airport with enough time to grab a bite to eat and a coffee. We were in different parts of the plane which was fine. Took the train home and now I'm doing laundry and lounging on the couch. My H had wanted to go out tonight for a last hurrah before we got our dog and we both decided NOPE. We'll order in something.
H and his brother just left for the PSU game. They are going to be chilly and wet and I do not envy them, haha. I slept in, so I'm just having breakfast now and then I'll work out. No idea what we're going to do today yet since it's to rain all day. Probably too much screen time for DS, maybe I'll organize a few things, maybe we'll bake something. We don't really have any indoor activities in town besides the library, which is also closed today for "unforeseen circumstances." Our brewery is having a burger food truck tonight, so maybe I'll at least take DS there for dinner and we could play a game or something. I also have the strong urge to online shop for fall clothes, lol, so there may be some of that.
Last night we went to dinner and ran into a couple that we used to be really good friends with before my H became the guy's boss at work and shit went downhill and they basically ghosted us, and didn't want to try to work anything out. I posted about it at the time, I was devastated. A few years ago, running into them would've made me pretty upset and if I had seen their car outside of the restaurant I probably would've gone elsewhere, but last night it was NBD at all. I'm in a much better place with friendships and F them honestly for missing out on how fun we are, lol. The wife actually did text me after and say that it was so good to see me and could we do dinner sometime, and I said yes, so it will be good to rekindle my relationship with her. Her H is still an ass.

I don’t remember how old X is, but I’ve never seen this with the 10-and-under set. We’ve hosted two birthday parties at bounce places and they’re expensive to host, but definitely haven’t lasted 4 hours. The package usually includes an hour of jumping and an hour in the party room. A 4-hr party sounds more like “hey, we’re going to this bounce place, wanna come?” I’d still expect to pay for any kids we invited….

He’s 13. It’s the norm for this age, at least for our area, to just invite a few friends for an activity. Like x took a friend to top golf for his birthday, but we paid for everything. Golf time, food, etc. last year we took a few of his friends bowling, no official “party room” but we still paid for everything (and happy to do so). Even on non bday events, imo if we’re the ones doing the inviting, we’re the ones paying.

Yeah… I would not do that. That sounds shitty.
I already told him yes. Oops. When he said the name of the jump place, I mis-remembered and thought it was one closer to us. 😬

I’ve never heard of that ever. Even when DS was invited to “come along to this jumping place for some fun to celebrate buddy’s birthday”, they paid for everything (we sent him with some cash just in case).

My parents are hosting Thanksgiving in a couple weeks, and they will almost certainly not make a turkey dinner (they cater to my brother’s family, who ‘don’t like it’) - it is what it is.
So today, in honour of the first day of Fall, I am making an entire Thanksgiving dinner, just swapping out the turkey for a roasted chicken, for the 3 of us. Chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, carrots, stuffing, homemade cranberry sauce, rolls, and homemade pumpkin pie, which is in the oven right now. To say I’m excited would be the understatement of the year.
I am fairly confident I broke my foot last night, I am at the ortho right now waiting on the X-ray results. I really hope I am wrong. I just started to get back into working out and feeling better and taking my antidepressants after a really bad summer with my mom passing away and it will be a blow if I broke it. I also have a work offsite Mon-Thurs next week and am meeting my new team in person for the first time and would love to not show up in a boot and/or crutches. Meh.
It's perfect weather for staying in, so of course we're out and about because DS has an art class this morning. DD and I got coffee and donuts and people watched for awhile, stopped in a local craft shop and bought earrings and candles we didn't really need, went to Trader Joe's, and we still have 40 minutes to kill.
Driving DD and a friend to the mall this afternoon, but otherwise just making chili and being cozy at home.

Patsy Baloney that is garbage. I didn’t have a formal bday party for DD this year but told her she could invite some friends to a bounce place. I reached out to the parents to arrange it and I certainly paid for everyone. Was still a hell of a lot cheaper than having an official party there!
Been running around like crazy today, for DD’s first hockey game of the season at 8am. They didn’t win but damn I’m proud of her. She got the only 2 goals and parent bias aside, was the best player out there of both girls and boys. Then we hustled back to play in the second half of her town soccer game. We were standing on the sideline near the opposing team’s coach and at one point he said “is #42 yours? She’s the best out there. I could tel when she ran by me when she got here that we were in trouble”. My college athlete H was beaming lol. Then she subbed for another town team that was short players. She absolutely loved doing all those things. Now I’m prepping the house to have a bunch of friends later to pregame before the Stevie Nicks/Billy Joel concert tonight while H drops off DD at SILs for a sleepover. We boarded the dog for tonight so tomorrow I will be SLEEPING IN!
