I am planning to quit my job on Tuesday Jan 2. My boss is on PTO Tuesday and comes back Wed. His boss is a SVP.
I could:
1. Just call my boss even though he's on PTO. I know he's just hanging out at home, he's it on a trip or anything. He also has commented that he'll be available as needed over his PTO. But I still feel bad.
2. Call grandboss the SVP. I don't know that I'll actually be able to get through to SVP. Seems likely to be super awkward to tey to talk to him as his calendar will be 100% booked.
3. Wait until Wednesday. Really don't want to wait another day because I have wanted to be gone for a month and every day is torture.
My son was accepted into the only school he applied to. A local State University (small liberal arts school) :-)
He's interested in business and is actually still considering taking the 2 free years at the Community College and then transfering. He's very, very hesitant to live in a dorm with a roommate.
Thanks! Unfortunately, needing an outlet is kind of a deal breaker for putting it out in a field.
That was one of the cost reduction changes they made to the "chase" model. The more $$ ones are battery operated.
I saw that. I'm just not that committed to being able to set up a course at the farm to spend that much money. I'm not even sure both dogs would get excited about it.

That was my thought, too. Really, I wanted to see if my dog would actually chase. If so, I'd like to run her in FastCat comps.
I decided to do some closet clean out and realized a small stack of clothes was mine, not DH’s. 🤦🏼‍♀️
It’s two lounge sets from loft that I bought during Covid. I don’t even know how I forgot about them, but I rearranged to make more stuff visible. I have a shelf with 2 empty baskets now. I need to figure out what to do.
DH and E are building her desk. She was using the drill and is like “I don’t like building stuff.” Oh girl, your mother and father both build stuff and more. We were like “yeah, these skills are non-negotiable.” I think using a drill was making her nervous. Also the desk looks super cute.

I took my older dog to a CAT once and she didn't want to leave me to chase. I think she'd do it in a familiar environment - she runs like a gazelle when she's in the mood. Younger dog I know would love it, but she's an amputee so I can't let her run full out as much as she wants. I don't know if she'd even be eligible to compete in lure coursing. Rules about amputee dogs are bonkers in some sports/organizations. AKC bans them from obedience, but allows them in agility, which is completely ass backwards.
I bet your border collie will love lure coursing. They're great sport dogs.

AKC has some messed up rules! I think my bc will love it too. She is so, so fast. But very distracted all day long. I took her to a herding instinct clinic once. She eventually started running circles around goats but periodically stopped to go say hi to the photographer.
We haven't done agility in a while. She was much better at it (and fast) than i was directing her.
I'd like to do flyball too because tennis balls are like crack to her, but there aren't clubs super close by.

We watched the Mario movie and my H picked up donuts and foofy coffee drinks this morning because he feels bad that the kids and I are sick. This is shaping up to be a great day!

Not infrequently there are posts on our local fb group asking for "volunteers" to work for free in exchange for meals and a bed. In a place where you can easily get a dorm bed for under $10/nt (my whole ass house is under $200/mo, and I split it) and eat at a restaurant as cheaply as $2-4/meal for decently healthy and filling food. So, I mostly shrug and think if I was a young backpacker, it might be worth it for the adventure and not spending anything for a week or two. NBD.
This one seriously takes the cake, and I have to share. The audacity! Probably caucasity, too, b/c it reeks, probably literally, of white people dreadlocks, elephant pants, and highly inappropriate crop halter tops. My comments in brackets
"We're looking for 1-2 volunteers to help us around the house until Christmas, 4 hours a day 5 days a week, Sunday & Monday off. [weekend is friday & saturday in this state] Start on Tuesday.
I broke my arm so I'm useless [probably always has been] and my family unit could use extra hands.
You will do stuff like:
- Moving furniture around.
- carry things
- sorting/organizing things in the house.
- General chores like cleaning.
- Assisting my wife with whatever she needs.
- bricklaying [!] — Additional high-value skills like is a bonus, will give extra perks.
- Help us produce kombucha.
You get:
- To stay in a comfy dorm bed in a beautiful and very private house in the jungle. [this means no a/c and lots of bugs, snakes, gigantic monitor lizards, likely monkeys which are cool to watch until they break in and mess with everything and steal food. Yes, that can happen] - Breakfast and lunch on us.
- Use our complete and highly organized kitchen [wait, I thought they needed organizing help] with lots of fridge space.
- steady and easy living and working environment.
- You can use our motorcycle and car for free anytime we don't use it. (License and/or a series of tests required)
- Join us with our wholesome activities like movie nights, bracelet making, dancing, cooking classes, bottle your own signature kombucha, talk to our chatty cat, stretching and more."
So, 20 hours a week of potentially hard labor in exchange for kombucha?! In a place I guarantee reeks of patchouli and bo. Probably no hot water either, but with no a/c, that's fine, and I've done it for long periods of time, but still. Hostels have hot water.
You just know this fool had all these things he'd planned on doing "in the future" and is trying to use sympathy to get all this for nothing. It's not like local laborm even skilled, is expensive, either. It's pretty comensurate with COL. And, due to many refugees, much like many places in the world, it is unfortunately common and easy to pay even less than minimum and have people line up. As much as I laugh and make fun, it honestly usually sickens me to see the shit people try to get away with. There are true volunteer organizations and special visas for them, too. These are just grifters.
maudefindlay, its like 40-50 people. H's mother has 7 siblings so its all of them and their family/extended family, some other randos, etc. lol.
The church basement is nice because it's already decorated and has a kitchen for us to plug in crockpots and all of that stuff. We also hire a Santa for the kids and provide him with a few small gifts for him to have them open. It's a nice party!
How many do you guys have?
Not quite those numbers yet, but low 30s. This will jump in the next few years as nieces/nephews bring partners and their own kids (DH is youngest and some of the older nieces/nephews are closer in age to us than to our kids). So numbers will climb and SIL adding her daughter's boyfriend's parents etc was a lot. This is a time for our kids to see their grandpa and we left not feeling like we really visited with anyone, but guest list is not our call, just annoying to then hear her raving to FIL how awesome it was and that she didn't think it was crowded at all. She's late MIL's toxic positivity puppet and for sure BEC for me. She just asks for things DH and his older brother would not. She is the one with grandkids and she asked DH and I after the fact if we thought it was OK she told her Dad/FIL he ought to buy her newest grandkid's crib. We would never tell him to buy something and if you have to ask someone that question that is the voice in your head telling you not to do that.

SusanBAnthony definitely resign the day you want to resign. Give your letter to your boss' boss or HR and let it be their call to contact your boss. Then the next AM follow up with your boss.

Flyball is so much fun to watch, but I worry about injuries. I'd totally let my dogs try it if they could run individually and not have to cross with another dog. I mostly stick to scent sports. The dogs love it and I don't need to be crazy in shape to keep up! And there are no restrictions on my tripawd.

I am in the ER getting IV meds for this pneumonia that I cannot shake. Waiting for a bed to be ready for them to admit me. I’m ready to be healthy but really want to get home asap. Other than tightness in my chest and a little tired I feel fine. I feel so badly leaving the rest of Christmas prep to H. He is fine with it, but I wish I had finished shopping earlier.
I’m planning to redecorate my office area (half of a big open space) over the next couple weeks and can’t wait. The entire downstairs has been taken over by stuff my H and sons are into. The only space I have for myself in the house is a tiny corner desk I work from, meanwhile my H doesn’t work from home and has two desks and is slowly filling all cabinet and shelf space downstairs with legos and games. I ordered a new mantel, made H consolidate into one desk and am going to sell the giant TV.
My mom and sister are in the middle of a huge fight and my sister probably won’t come to Christmas which is super disappointing. It’s 90% my mom’s fault and I’m so annoyed with her, but I’ve had so many difficult conversations at work lately that I don’t have the mental energy to talk to either of them about it. I need to see if there’s anything fun going on on Christmas Eve so my kids will be distracted from missing their cousin.
Oh, I know. It takes a lot to surprise me. I've long known about WOOFers, missionaries raising their own funding to go work somewhere they're probably not wanted, all these things idealistic young folks will do before they have few responsibilities. Even with older folks (um, like myself) I can see the appeal.
Nearby, you can get a yearlong visa to volunteer with refugees or animal welfare, or many other charitable passions, and while you won't earn much, you also won't spend much of anything. And that's appealing for a lot of people who want to live elsewhere, contribute, and not break into savings. I get it. Not volunteerism, but truly immersing in local life for a long period of time with the potential to extend. I've seen some truly amazing things that began many years ago with a single youthful (long term) trip.
But this! Too much! The comments were so kind, too, like well wishes, speedy recovery. At least one said "servant wanted." Can you imagine how much they'd be blasted on something like nextdoor? I kinda want someone to use a dummy account and c&p this to see the responses

Can the kids get together independently of warring factions? Anywhere that's neutral ground as an alternative? Hopefully adults can not be asses for a few hours, but I know in many families, mine included, that can prove impossible.

At DD’s hockey game this morning (EARLY THIS MORNING) I was asking one of the moms how their new kittens are doing and she mentioned she was thinking of getting a robot litter box. I bought a $600 one when we moved and one of the cats refused to use it. Eventually the other one stopped using it too and I ended up back with 2 regular boxes. They’re big boys and always had open boxes so I don’t think they liked feeling so enclosed. I emptied and cleaned the robotic one and it’s been sitting taking up space since. I told her I’ve been planning to sell ours for $300 once I got around to listing it and she jumped on that. Later she was telling me about a hockey tutor board thing that her older kids really liked but are done with now at 12, and her daughter on DD’s team isn’t interested in. I looked it up and it’s $350 new and looks so cool so I think we are gonna trade the items! So much easier than having to list the thing on Marketplace! When we were leaving the game we noticed the next team playing was the one with the boy who punched her. His dad the coach was there, but he wasn’t. Is it too much to hope he’s been suspended or booted from the team and not just home sick today?

Possibly, but I would have to be the one to initiate, plan and host and I don’t know if I have it in me, lol. My mom can definitely be civil for a few hours but even suggesting that my sister try to set the fight aside for the sake of the kids at Christmas will set her off so I’m just letting her decide if she wants to attend.

WWYD?
It think you can do both - prepare to give notice in writing to whomever is working on January 2nd and call your immediate boss to say you are sending it. In essence, it’s a legal document, a written record, a “notice” of your intentions tied to benefits and expectations. As a boss, I always appreciate knowing what’s going on before my higher ups, especially coming back from time off.

oh, I get it. My dad's wife, legally my mom for over 30 years, couldn't bring herself to say hi at my grandma's funeral (gramma was really my mother figure) and picked up the phone and said horrible things when I called my dad after my sister's funeral. Holidays can bring out the best and worst in families.
That's why maybe exclude those adults. Yes you'd have to probably supervise, but maybe your sister would help plan and facilitate in the background if she agrees with you about the feud? Cookie decorating? Bowling? Xmas light driving? Just to get the cousins together giggling. He'll, mcd play place if they're of such an age

Oh man, I’m so sorry! I hope this helps you kick the crud for good. Feel better!
My husband went to Aldi yesterday and came home with a tiny standing rib roast so that was a nice surprise for dinner! Now we have a bit leftover. Would it be good in sandwiches or is it something that needs to be cooked into something else? I feel like people have posted about making for the holidays here before. We cook a lot but normally not so much beef!

tacokick - Absolutely good for leftovers. If you cooked it rare, I would take it out of the fridge and leave it out for about 20 minutes, then microwave it the least time you can. Or eat it cold. It can also be turned into something else, if you want.
I was at my mother's house, doing my usual "take care of the 91-year-old, living on her own" stuff. Well, Mom just keeps everything, so when she tried to put something on the pile of stuff on her footstool and it nearly toppled over, I stepped in. About 50 magazines are now in the recycle bin, several books are on the shelf beside her chair, and some paperwork is in my possession for shredding.
And I came home and looked around and OMFG, I have piles of papers and crap too! Folks, I'M TURNING INTO MY MOTHER!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This week has been exhausting and I was hoping to be able to sleep in this morning, but my bladder rudely woke me before 6am. My brain jumped in on the action obsessing over a situation at work that will affect me, but doesn’t strictly involve me, and now I feel like I’ve already put in a full day by lunch. On the flip side I’ve managed to plow through mountains of laundry, reorganize and clean my office/craft room, vacuum, mop, etc. Hopefully, I will remember what supplies I have now that everything is in clearly labeled bins in the closet. I could spend $$$ at the Container store, but tried rot restrain myself. Lol.
I thought DS’s fever had finally broken because he seemed much better this morning, other than coughing, but it’s back this afternoon. Cuddles and movies it is!

I was supposed to work at the archery range today because of an event they are hosting. They canceled me at the last minute saying they have plenty of help. I’m kinda disappointed, I really enjoy my time there.
I’m going out to dinner with my future MIL tonight. I hope I don’t regret this.
This week was crazy, so glad it’s over. I had my last event of the holiday season this morning - wreath laying at our cemetery. I made hot chocolate for 140 people. My car is still full and I need to unload it but I don’t want to!

A friend of a friend posted his entire phone # in response to a FB comment. I was 99% sure he didn’t have my # locked in (to be fair, I didn’t have his # locked in either) so I thought it would be hilarious to text “Yooooo! Look behind you!”
Except that I entered the # in wrong. TWICE! I got it right on the third try and we caught up for a minute about holidays, family, etc…
Neither of the previous two #s texted me back, so I’m hoping they saw my area code from like 7 states away and thought I might be spam.
So if you have a 470 area code and received the above text about 10:30pm last night, I am very sorry.
This is a vent about Amazon, with whom I have EASILY spent $30K or more in its lifetime. I ordered a hat as a gift for Christmas. Nothing in the transaction indicated it was from a third party seller or that I would have to pick it up *45 minutes away*. What? I've never even HEARD of that. But apparently that's the case and Amazon won't help me over a $30 order. And I'm not going to pick it up and the seller won't cancel it. It is shady and it should be illegal for Amazon to operate this way. I waited 45 minutes on hold for them to tell me that they can't help me with an order I placed through them.
