I had to switch my workout class to this morning due to holiday events and I ran a few quick errands after. One was to return some damaged items from Amazon, which I rarely do, and I discovered the Petco near my gym takes them, packages them and gives a 10% discount coupon for Petco.
This one seemed like they treat animals better than the one closer to our house, which we got a half dead looking betta fish from (DS2 picked him out). I didnāt think heād survive long but heās almost 3 years old! Heās really friendly but he doesnāt swim much anymore and mostly lays on his rocks. DS2 is very much into presents for pets and only bought presents for my mom and sisterās dogs at his school holiday shop (not for any of his human family š). I found the perfect gift for his betta! Itās a fish hammock, which is basically a plastic leaf that suction cups to the inside of his tank. Now heāll be able to lay on it higher up than his rocks.

circa1978 That is crazy! I hate all the third party sellers that arenāt vetted. Despite my post above, Iāve actually been trying to shop at Amazon less in general.
ellipses84 honestly, if I hadn't already canceled my Prime over the costs of it going through the roof, I'd be THRILLED to cancel it now. It's not bad enough that retailers are gauging people six ways to Sunday but they just operate with impunity. I'm ashamed at how much I've spent there over the years but it's not like they are the only place I can get dog food, video games and detergent.
This is a vent about Amazon, with whom I have EASILY spent $30K or more in its lifetime. I ordered a hat as a gift for Christmas. Nothing in the transaction indicated it was from a third party seller or that I would have to pick it up *45 minutes away*. What? I've never even HEARD of that. But apparently that's the case and Amazon won't help me over a $30 order. And I'm not going to pick it up and the seller won't cancel it. It is shady and it should be illegal for Amazon to operate this way. I waited 45 minutes on hold for them to tell me that they can't help me with an order I placed through them.
What the heck? I would try chat and keep chatting till someone fixed that!
I am planning to quit my job on Tuesday Jan 2. My boss is on PTO Tuesday and comes back Wed. His boss is a SVP.
I could:
1. Just call my boss even though he's on PTO. I know he's just hanging out at home, he's it on a trip or anything. He also has commented that he'll be available as needed over his PTO. But I still feel bad.
2. Call grandboss the SVP. I don't know that I'll actually be able to get through to SVP. Seems likely to be super awkward to tey to talk to him as his calendar will be 100% booked.
3. Wait until Wednesday. Really don't want to wait another day because I have wanted to be gone for a month and every day is torture.
WWYD?
I think since your boss said theyād be available while on PTO, Iād give them a call since you have to absolutely do it that day. Prob better than the day they return cause might be catching up on things anyway.
Not exactly the same but I had an employee call me while I was on maternity leave to say they were quitting. I appreciated the heads up.
I raked our entire front yard today and my body is so sore, but it looks great. We also got some new outdoor Christmas decorations (Lowes had them marked 50% off right now!)
It was a great productive day but the inside of my house is trashed so yay I know what I'll be doing tomorrow š
My teen works from 4 pm - 8 pm on Saturday & Sunday. I do drop off/pick up. I always imagine itās such a long time. But it goes so quick! I hardly get 1/2 the stuff done I think I will.

Why is my mom so weird about calling sometimes? We text everyday and FaceTime about twice a week so she can see our daughter.
We FaceTimed yesterday. This morning she texted me and said "can I call you" I say "of course you can call me at anytime." She then says "ok what time can I call?" And I say "anytime!"
Why does she feel the need to schedule a phone call?! She said she was gonna call me in the early afternoon after she got home but didnāt. So I finally called her about 30 minutes ago and she was like oh yeah, I was just about to call you. Then, we just had a normal conversation!
wanderingback - my mom is weird about calling me, too. If I bring it up, she says āOh I donāt want to bother you if youāre busy.ā And Iām like, if Iām busy I just wonāt answer, but Iāll know you want to talk and call you back, thatās how the phone works!

Exactly! And my mom is a social butterfly and talks on the phone daily to multiple people so she knows how the phone works and I know sheās not scheduling calls with them. Nor have I ever complained about her calling me! So bizarre.
DS (9) is wrapping his gift to DH and he made me leave the room. He chose an extra long roll of paper, and he is laughing so hard, itās cracking me up. This is such fun age and we keep trying to linger in these moments because those teen years are right around the corner and I am not prepared!
I really wish I had a magic wand to clean up this house. Iād hire someone in a heartbeat, but theyād have to declutter so much it wouldnāt be worth it. I need to take a week off work and just get rid of stuff. I also need my H to stop adding stuff, so thereās that š¤
I ran a ton of errands today and a lot of baking prep. I made sugar cookie dough and rolled it out and froze it, made molasses cookies to bake off at the end of the week, cranberry orange shortbread dough that I'll slice and bake later, and a double batch of cranberry orange cream scones.
Tomorrow is all yeast doughs, so that's going to be a little more complicated, but hopefully everything will go smoothly. I need to make cinnamon rolls through the first rise and filling, make and bake walnut roll, make milk bread rolls through the first rise and shaping, and turkey and stuffing stuffed kolaches.
DS2 is at MIL's and DH is taking DS1 skiing, so hopefully it's a productive day.
I am in the ER getting IV meds for this pneumonia that I cannot shake. Waiting for a bed to be ready for them to admit me. Iām ready to be healthy but really want to get home asap. Other than tightness in my chest and a little tired I feel fine. I feel so badly leaving the rest of Christmas prep to H. He is fine with it, but I wish I had finished shopping earlier.
I canāt believe youāre still battling this, you were sick before I got sick and that seems so long ago. Iām so sorry.

As only children we can vent to each other
As a fellow only child I also have a mother phone call vent. She sometimes does the whole phone call set up as well. But the worst is if I call her and she's not free she will still answer the phone, and immediately launch into why she can't talk right then. BUT THEN proceed to ask me questions that she doesn't listen to the answer and "uh huhs" her way through quickly before telling me again how she can't talk. Don't answer the phone! Or at least just explain once and hang up. We talk like daily and have a great relationship so it's not like if she doesn't answer that one time we won't ever talk again. It kills me lol
Hurray for dick cookies! I've had 2 glasses of Prosecco because I am officially on holiday until the 3rd. DD has a class "spectacle" this week and I am looking forward to it, but not looking forward to it being 1.5 hours, which I sincerely hope was a typo.
My neighbor is out of town. Someone has been by taking care of her dog, but I haven't seen the car there at all today. Typically I see the car there overnight they're not just stopping by once a day. Her dog is outside and has been kind of whining, which doesn't bother me, but I feel bad she's an inside dog. I also know my neighbor makes her food so I kind of assume it hasn't been fed? I peeked over the fence but couldn't see anything other then the dog laying down. I texted my neighbor but haven't heard back. She's also been in the process of moving out of the country so I'm not sure if she even has her normal cell if that's where she is?
I do know her passcode to get into her house. But I feel like that's major overstepping. But she's also a single lady and this dog is like her child. I'm so torn on what to do! I don't want to throw food over the fence because the dog has had a lot of stomach issues (thus the homemade food).

Sometimes I think Iām psychic, lol. I picked up a mobile order at Panera and on the way home I stopped to get chocolate milk for the kids at the grocery. While I was there I passed by the dairy aisle and picked up cream cheese just in case Panera forgot. Guess what happened when I got home with my order? No cream cheese from Panera. That definitely would have aggravated me if I didnāt have a back up.

Is the dog still out? I would bring it over to your place or go to their place and let them in and give them food. An indoor dog left outside for an extended period is not normal.
And I would text the neighbor what you are doing and leave a note for the dog sitter assuming there is one.

Would just keep texting every once in a while and hope she answers. I would not feed the dog bc if it does have stomach issues, giving it the wrong food could cause a medical event. I have a few dog clients that have special diets and they canāt even eat treats that I bring bc it could make them seriously ill. Is there a way to get the dog from the backyard without entering the house? I would consider bringing the dog home if I didnāt hear from the neighbor and at least provide the poor pup with water until I heard back from neighbor.

I was just sitting in traffic for Gillette stadium (Iām not going to the Pats game but we live close by). A blacked out livery car flanked by 2 state troopers came through in the left lane and I swear it was Taylor Swift heading to the game. I am weirdly geeked out by this lol.
We had H's family Christmas party yesterday. It was nice. Tons of good food- meatballs, mac and cheese, charcuterie, dips, veggie pizza, cookies, all the things. Tis the season. I love his family because they're in and out with parties, they don't linger like they do in my family lol. Started at 5, ate right away, Santa came at 6, everyone out by 7. DS had a blast running around with his cousins. Went home and made a "mistletoe Manhattan" cocktail and relaxed on the couch.
I don't need to leave the house today at all. H is indoor golfing with a friend at 2, so he'll just pick up our grocery order afterward. I have a rump roast in the crockpot to have Italian beef sandwiches tonight. I picked up a new KitchenAid stand mixer on Friday so my plan today is to get that out and make the rest of my cookie dough to freeze and then bake that all probably Thursday so that H can send a platter into work, and I can give some to neighbors.
I'm in a decent place with Christmas. H and I have to wrap all of DS's stuff from us + Santa but we'll do that together. I've wrapped everything for my side of the family which wasn't much.
Yet another reason I donāt get organized religion.
I keep waiting for OP to be like āyeah, having a felon with mental health issues probably isnāt a good fit. I need to let leadership now he needs to be removed.ā And yet, still trying to āhelp.ā

The weather is crazy today. Wind, rain and flooding. H was supposed to be off on time so he can stay with DS while I run some errands, but the flooded roads nixed that plan.
I still have a cough from getting sick right after Thanksgiving. I feel like I'm trying to get sick again and I will not be happy. I have too much to do this week. I need to clean 3 cabins plus our house in school town for renters coming in after Christmas. I need to finish wrapping presents. The kids want to make sugar cookies, so I need to facilitate that... although they are old enough now to mostly do this themselves so I shouldn't need to do too much to help with this one (I hope)! I need to do some prep work for Christmas Day breakfast and dinner. I would like to make cinnamon rolls, but I don't think that will happen. Yet, I will probably sit on my couch all day and watch football instead of doing any of those things. lol.

Thank you. Iām actually feeling okay, more tired than anything but the pneumonia isnāt clearing. Good news is they let me come home and said I can see a pulmonologist this week and any further treatment will be outpatient. So many people are sick with lingering issues; this year is crazy.
