I had to drop DS off at the highschool at 6:15 this morning. Our school is hosting a big wrestling tournament. DS is JV (freshman) and joined the team after the season started so there has been a steep learning curve for us! This requires a level of parent involvement I was not prepared for lol. We’ll be at the HS gym allllllll day. Bye bye Saturdays (and Wednesday evenings) lol

One kid is at an overnight ski trip.
The other kid has robotics kick off and will be at the school all day.
I am 100% good with my Saturday lololol. I love my kids but they are reaching a stage of teenager where I can foresee being happy to shove them out of the nest for college.

This is our DSs' first year wrestling as well and it is definitely a bigger time commitment than any other sport they've played. The all day Saturday tournaments are a killer. lol
H’s birthday is tomorrow, so I think we’re going to go out to brunch today at a new spot that has come recommended. Then I leave on a business trip M-F.
C started taking guitar lessons a few months ago, and he says he’s ready to “take a break” from it. We’ve already pre-paid for a few more lessons, so I’m thinking of asking his instructor if I can pick up those last few lessons and maybe continue on myself? I played a few instruments as a kid and I kind of miss playing music. I’ve always been interested in learning guitar, and I’ve picked up some things from sitting in on C’s lessons. I feel kind of weird taking on a new thing right now, but maybe it would be fun. Is this crazy??

Anyone want to help me shop?
DD needs a large backpack to use for overnight school trips, or all day sports events, where she needs to pack some clothes and snacks.
Apparently a duffel bag or suitcase is entirely not acceptable to use as an overnight bag 🤣🤣🤣 but a big backpack makes sense anyway since she also needs it for day trips.
Any suggestions? I'm about to start randomly googling but figured I would ask as well.
ETA: the biggest LL Bean backpack is 42 L and costs 109$. I can't visualize 42L and 109$ seems like a lot for a teenager who may lose it or decide it is no longer cool in a year. OTOH this will be her main birthday present, so I guess I can spend her whole birthday budget on a backpack if that is just what they cost.
I am not built for adult birthday dinners anymore. One of my friends turned 50 yesterday and wanted a couples dinner. 16 people. What could go wrong? We got there at 7, no food until 9, and didn’t leave until 11. I am hungover today and had one glass of wine. My body just can’t handle that kind of deviation from the norm! I’m glad I went but I am also glad to be home the rest of the weekend.
@villianv do it! I’ve always wanted to learn guitar and have thought about taking lessons this year and I kind of want to brush up on the piano, too.

Would the Herschel strand bag or a Stoney Clover duffle bag work? I think the SC are more $$ but def more popular.
We're making a rosca de reyes cake today for 3 Kings Day. A learned about the holiday at school and is insisting we celebrate. I've only ever made galette de rois. I got the CUTEST little fevés to hide inside (a tiny jam jar, a waffle, a baguette and a croissant).
I decided to make my own candied citrus peel this week. It took 4 days, lol. My kid keeps trying to sneak and eat it.
I woke up with a swollen eyelid. Wtf?! No stye, no pink eye, no bump like I have a mosquito bite. Sigh. At least it doesn’t hurt, just looks awful.
I need to fold laundry, then pack. We’ve about decided we are going to use our bigger suitcases, since there’s no flight involved. Then just picking up around here so we can come home to a clean house next weekend!
We're supposed to get 6-8 inches of snow. Our only plans are to work out, take down Christmas decorations, and maybe take a snowy walk downtown later to get something to eat if anything's open. We have friends down the street that we might invite over for a beer later.
I did just realize, however, that the last pair of snow boots I had for DS are way too small, so I'm trying to procure a pair of those before the snow starts. I asked around to a few friends to see if they have hand me downs but no luck. Walmart appears to be out of stock of everything. I have one more department store type place to try but then I think I'm out of options. Small town problems. I don't want to spend a lot since we only get a handful of big snows anymore.

We like the Under Armour Hustle 5.0 - it holds a ton but doesn’t overwhelm my DD. It’s got compartments for school, clothes, and shoes.
I won tickets to Universal Studios in a Harry Potter trivia contest, we leave 2/29. I bought our plane tickets last night. I already had a Disney trip deposit down for late fall, but with the new promos the travel agent said I could save $900 if I shift my trip by 2 days so we did.
Now SIL wants to do a girl's cruise next May. I'm really excited for all this travel, we didn't go anywhere for a very long time and I'm having so much fun planning all the things!
DS 2 is going cross-country skiing with my mom for the first time this morning, and I really hope he has fun. We just got fresh snow yesterday, so there's no better time for him to give it a try. Kid 1 has archery lessons in the afternoon. Other than ferrying them to those activities my only other plans for the day involve putting away the Christmas tree (finally) and reading one of the books I didn't get to over the break.
DH and I are supposed to meet friends for dinner at 5:30. The weather here is still iffy, one friend is south and will be fine, but the other is north of us and could have trouble. I'm going to pick up a bottle of wine in case we go out. Or end up home.
H and DS just left to go plow snow (which hasn't started yet and may just be rain). I'm just puttering around the house today and taking down Christmas decorations.
I'm not a big movie person but just saw that a Mean Girls remake is coming out and I am all in.

Go for it! My husband started taking piano lessons with no experience last year and loves it. If not now, when?

Ds got in trouble yesterday and lost screen time for today, and dh is working all day. He also has a bunch of hw that he needs to do. AND I decided both kids need to clean their rooms today. So I get to monitor ds all day and make sure he does things he doesn't want to do and stays off video games, and he's already miserable and making me miserable. Going to be a long day. Luckily the snow has started here, so hopefully once he gets his stuff done they can go out and play in it.

I cleared out all the Christmas stuff from the house. I just need to put all the boxes away in the loft space. It feels weird not having lights on all the time. I have some outdoor lights that are on a timer all year round, so I guess I'll have to just look at them when I want that 'feeling'.
SusanBAnthony, I'd go for a 35 to 40 l backpack. I always look at outdoor shop sales for them. I'm sure there has to be a few online outdoor shops that you could find. Or if you want even cheaper, go with Amazon.

It's a film version of the Broadway musical. Very fun, but also not a traditional remake.

Not sure what's going on with the weather today - nothing yet but it sounds like snow and rain are around the corner maybe? We have no plans other than we are finally going to check out the new Raising Caines here in town, but I am not driving in snow or ice so we may wait until tomorrow. How funny that is as a former midwesterner, lol - never thought I'd have the ability to refuse to drive in bad weather.
My H and I both still have lingering congestion from colds, so I am looking forward to laying around the rest of the weekend. I want to read, put away Christmas decorations, and maybe start figuring out how to crochet a scarf.

I just cleaned my Covid quarantine space from top to bottom. My only other plan today is to get in a light workout. I’ve been on a four month rotation of pneumonia and Covid and can’t wait to be healthy. I had a bunch of tests scheduled for last week to determine any underlying respiratory issues but had to push them all back when I tested positive. For now I’m just glad to be out of quarantine.

I saw a preview for the newest installment of the Feud series Capote vs The Swans. I'm all on in for it to start 1/31. I hope the women aren't all portrayed as conniving bitches, because we all know if they had dicks they'd be called shrewd business men.
