We are all off work/school. C whacked his foot against his bedframe on Saturday morning and fractured his toe, so we’re probably laying low today. We’re in a part of the country that isn’t suffering from brutal cold, and C would typically be outside running around with his friends all day, so it’s definitely a bummer keeping him off his foot.

We went to see Nate bargatze last night and it was great. The kids are at my mom’s and the dog is at our neighbors. The perfect setup to sleep in for once…. Nope, I was wide awake at 6:37.
Regular workday/school day here. The “feels like” temperature this morning is -26C (-15F) so I’m really hoping my car starts. I’m also hoping they keep the kids in for recess today as there’s a cold weather alert, and a “stay indoors if possible” advisory was issued by the health unit.

I slept horribly because my eye started bugging me yesterday, and I woke up several times in the night feeling like I was being stabbed by tons of little needles. Just trying to make it through the morning of work, then headed to the eye doctor hoping for some relief.

It's my birthday! H is off today, and he's going to make me my ultimate favorite comfort food: homemade pasta with sauce, garlic bread, salad, and a glass of red wine.
Another freeze another warning from ERCOT that we may not have enough power. Cool cool. I have seen this movie before and it resulted in a burst pipe. Can we not do this again? I swear Texas. Get it together.

I survived the journalist being here for 2 hours yesterday! It wasn’t so bad, but she did talk/ask me stuff pretty much the whole time so when 2 hours came around thankfully she realized the time and I didn’t have to kick her out lol. Our daughter was a nice fun distraction as well, so it wasn’t too bad. She said the story will be out in late Feb and she’ll let me read/fact check it before, which I appreciate cause I hate the surprise quotes or spins that sometimes happens with journal articles I’ve been in.
We went out for several hours both Saturday and Sunday (which involved walking an hour plus in the cold) so today I think I just want to stay home. My partner and I will take turns watching our daughter so hopefully I’ll get a few hours of reality tv in and definitely the gym
I’m on my 5th day of Covid quarantine and I’m over it. So far the rest of the family has avoided it, and I’m going stir crazy. At least I get to hole up in the primary suite while H takes the guest room.
Older kiddo has a half day today while our 4 year old has off.

I started getting pink eye symptoms in my left eye on Saturday. I tried allergy eye drops first, but they barely touched the symptoms. Then I found some leftover antibiotic eye drops from the last time I had pink eye, so I'm using those for now and they seem to be working. The weather was so bad here over the weekend, especially yesterday, I didn't want to try to go to urgent care. I usually wear contacts and now won't be able to for a week, so that's a bummer. I also had to throw away my eye makeup and that I used the day or two before the symptoms started, so that will cost $ to replace.
DH went to the Detroit Lions game last night. It was a nail-biter til the end, but all Lions fans are super happy today. Finally, they made it to the playoffs after a long time.
The roads weren't great today, but school wasn't cancelled, and no MLK, Jr day off for me or the kids. (DH does have today off.) I think the superintendent was making up for a bad call on a snow day last week.
midwestmama, 32 years! That is a long playoff win wait. My whole family is from the Detroit area, so they are all excited (and a little stunned) today.
I plan to rot on the couch with a cup of coffee and The Sun Also Rises while my husband takes the little guy on a hike. Usually my hike FOMO would take over and I'd go, but I spent all day yesterday at IKEA and then building 3 storage pieces and redoing the playroom--I would have to be airlifted out of the woods today if I went.

It is sunny and freezing here. I need to hit the grocery store to cook for the week. DD has swim and DS has baseball later today. I love 3-day weekends!
I overslept this morning and now I'm in a...mood. I'm not mad, but I feel like I'm on the verge of punching someone.
This morning's oversleeping brought to you by an exhausting weekend with our niece (she's only a couple years younger than me) in town this weekend and she is as extroverted as they come. I felt "on" all weekend and like I couldn't relax or take a breather until she left. Which makes me feel awful because I genuinely love the shit out of her and we get along super well. But man, is she exhausting, lol.
Ugh, I went to scratch off the PIN in a gift card and all the number just came off! I have no idea what I can do now without the pin. I wonder if I can take it to a store, it has a magnetic strip too! I was ordering some pants from athleta to try.
Today is cleaning at least E’s bathroom and vacuuming. And making her dust. She still hasn’t figured out that I say all surfaces that means, all surfaces.
I was so happy the Lions won!!! I do like Stafford and was pulling for him in LA but of course yesterday that was not the case LOL. H had set up the projection system that kid got from her brother for Christmas and the jury's out if he did it for her or himself but watching the game on a huge screen was pretty cool.
Kid is a huge Swifty so Friday night when he was done setting the system up we had a dance party with her music and then on Saturday because the weather was so crappy we didn't want to go anywhere so we let her rent the Eras Tour movie. We had seen it in the theater but H didn't go with us so she was happy to have him watch it too - he went with it as much as he could haha.
It's so crappy that I have to work today. I work at a University for gosh sakes that should be a given. There are no classes so students and faculty are off but not us lowly staff. We either have to work like normal or we can volunteer at some the the sponsored sites (but there were very few and they filled quick) or take a vacation day. So stupid. I am literally the only one in my office due to others taking vacation or working remote so at least it'll be a quiet day I guess.

I'm much, much, much more excited for the Eagles to play tonight now that Dallas lost last night. Regardless of whether we win or lose, we were in the playoffs longer than the Cowboys!
Super happy for the Lions, what a great game. Once my team is out, I think I'll have to root for them.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
It’s 6 degrees here and we got a layer of snow. I’m pretty glad the kids have the day off. No plans. The laundry is piled up so I guess I will do that. I also need to make a meal plan for the week. I want to use up some stuff if the freezer..
I slept horribly last night. I have a cold. Is getting up to pee more times when you're sick a thing? Because I was up a BUNCH of times. I was practically a zombie when DS woke me up, but I'm better now with coffee in me.
H has inservice today. I sent DS to childcare and I'm having a me day. After I workout and shower I'm going to drive to a bigger town about 45 min away and hit Trader Joes for all our usual staples, Wegmans to browse the ethnic food and tea sections, Target, maybe Ulta and Old Navy if I have time. I'll probably get sushi for lunch and a Starbucks thrown in there at some point. Super basic mom day lol.

It's super cold here in South Louisiana. We almost never get below freezing. Our house is on a concrete foundation, so I've got my fingers crossed that we are fine.
We had a great weekend in Atlanta. I enjoyed Medieval Times more than I thought I would. The food was pretty good, I don't eat meat on the bone, so FI deboned it all for me. The show was cheesy, but not bad. We agreed that we enjoyed it, but once was enough.
ssmjlm is it an Athleta gift card? Are all the numbers off? Take it in to a store or even call CS. Those scratch off ones are the bane on my existence. The newer ones peel off. The SHOULD be able to help you.
I am so happy with the way the playoffs are shaping up. I can happily cheer for the Packers and Lions. I know the Eagles are ass and I accepted that weeks ago so I really don’t even care what happens tonight. The Dallas game was glorious.

It’s an all brands card, but we have an Athleta locally so I’ll take it there! Thanks!

this is basically my update although I’m only on day 3 Paxlovid is awesome because I basically feel totally fine now, except I have the nasty paxlovid mouth taste in my mouth at all times which makes it hard to sleep.
beerlover, it's totally a thing! I think it's from the coughing but the same thing happens to me.
followyourarrow, The whole not eating meat on a bone is fascinating to me. My stepson is the same way. I've chatted with him about it because I don't get it - I mean you know the meat had bones so what's the deal? He's like "IDK, it's just weird to me" LOL It doesn't bother me or anything I just don't get it. Anyway, you're the only other person besides him I've heard mention that!
We are all off today! DH & DS installed the heavy bag that DS got for Christmas. I might do a nice workout today.
I need to make sure all my clothes and makeup are ready. I have about 80 interviews this week and next week for our next incoming class, and I usually wear scrubs and no makeup. I’ll take DD to Sephora, I’d like to try a new foundation, and also get a lipstain. I think that will last through my coffee? It’s usually so busy, I forget to reapply and just look pale. That’s not the look I’m going for! Lol

I’m the same way, and I can’t really explain it. I’ll take it off the bone myself though. I think it’s the biteof surprise I do t like, when something I’d pick off (hard, too chewy, a tendon piece, etc) ends up in my mouth, and I just don’t like that. The meat is good though!! DH usually polishes mine off the rest of the way. 😂 I try, but I do leave meat, and no one wants to waste it’s deliciousness.

We are all off today. Our MLK Day tradition is to drive about 2 hours to the snow and go tubing. It’s 50* in the mountains today, but we are going to try anyway. I woke up with a bad cold, and I’m feeling crappy, but my kids want to do this, so we will see how well this day goes… 😩
