Who has summer travel plans? Especially if you have kids, what are you doing and where are you going? We haven't planned anything yet but want to get started fairly soon. Our boys will turn 11 and 8 this summer. DS2 wants to do a resort. DS1 likes that idea too. We are still considering all options.
We were in Mexico last year for DH's 40th birthday and always have a good time there. We were just in Park City for skiing (not that we could do that in the summer, obviously, but we aren't looking to hike in the mountains), we are going to Disney World next month. DH and I will be going to Italy in the fall. We took DS1 to Washington DC last summer for his 10th birthday. I don't think the younger kid is totally ready for Europe yet.
We can fly or drive, but will probably plan to fly wherever we go. We prefer to fly direct, but that shouldn't be much of a problem, as we fly out of O'Hare. We all have current passports.

DS graduates from HS this year - summer travel plans are tentative right now. Santa Barbara just after graduation - Memorial day weekend Iceland and Denmark for 10 days in late summer before he moves to college

We'll go down the shore a bunch as we usually do. We'll also stay in the Poconos for a few days. We are the most stereotypical Philly-area vacationers alive.
We're doing a week at an AI in Mexico in July. Me and H haven't been since 2006- to Mexico or an AI, so I'm excited to not have to really plan much and just relax. We usually do at least one European city trip a year so a beach trip will be a nice change of pace. We're also going to New Orleans, probably for David's Fall break in October. Then we're planning our big Japan trip for 2025. We're all super excited about that one.
Don't be jealous but I'm going no where except maybe on a trip in the PNW (where we all live) with my extended family.
I'd love to go to the Seattle area for a long weekend with my H for our anniversary this June (15th). lf we do that it'll need to be during a week of LEGO camp so adults caring for DS can get a break. So it would likely be in July.
Honestly I'd love to go to DC and NYC for our 15th anniversary (but in the fall when it's not 1000 degrees with humidity) but it's more important to me to fly less. Driving would be a whole cross country thing so that's not going to happen. Neither H or I have ever been and it's been on our bucket list since we got married. I want to tour the White House which I know is a whole 6 month process beforehand.
We rent a house on Old Orchard beach in Maine, it is driving distance for us.
This summer we will return to the Cape with friends at the Red Jacket, our rooms are all on the beach and we will have a corner to ourselves between all the families.
We don't usually fly anywhere, it is just so expensive for the four of us. We live pretty close to the beach so we do lots of day trips during the summer.

FI works a ton during the summer, but we're hoping to sneak away to Denver for a concert. We might do one other road trip this summer, but we'll have to wait and see what timing will be like.

We were trying to decide between Lake Michigan and New England or road tripping more local (we're in the PacNW) when I remembered the existence of GoldenDog Farms so we will be be visiting VT/NH/ME. In addition to paying a few hundred dollars to pet goldens, we'll be going to Acadia, Portland and maybe Boston.
My H was smart enough to not point out that we have our own (Labrador) retriever.
I also am considering my flying and its impact and I know everyone has a special reason but... I really want to go to Europe this summer to see my 98 yo grandmother in the UK. While there, we are looking at where we can go via train and think we will go to visit my brother in the Netherlands, and also go to Germany (may go via bus from Netherlands to Germany!). It may be cheaper to get to the UK via the US but I am only looing at direct flights as so much of the emisisons are during take off
We are going to Montana and Wyoming for our family vacation at the end of June. My mom is doing all of the planning and has a four wheeler trip, rafting/tubing, hiking, and sightseeing at Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons on the agenda. It will be like 2300 miles of travel during the 8 days we are there. We are tying in a school visit for DS1 which will save a separate trip next summer when he really starts looking at schools.

We only have one trip planned this summer. We are going to Omaha, NE in June for a baseball tournament for DS. The timing lines up with the College World Series, so the boys and dads are excited to go to a CWS game while we're there. If anyone has any recommendations for restaurants or things to do in Omaha, I would love to hear them!
DS will have "optional" (read: if you want to even be considered for a starting position, you better be there or have a good excuse for not being there) football conditioning all summer (with official practices starting 2 weeks before school starts), except for the two dead-weeks (4th of July week and the first week in August), so that will limit our travel. DS will have some weekend baseball tournaments throughout the summer, but on some open weekends, we're hoping to get up to our property up north in Michigan (it is 10 minutes to Lake Michigan). (It is only about 1.25 hours from our home to our property, so a very doable length of time for even a day trip.)
jamaicam, my family and I took a trip to Germany/Austria/France last summer. We had train tickets from Munich to Strasbourg, but the train got cancelled, so we ended up taking a Flix Bus. It took twice as long as the train ride was supposed to, but to be honest, it was a much more scenic trip and in the end, we were glad we got to have that experience.
Summer in New England is delightful and we like to take advantage. We're doing a week in coastal Maine (booked) and will likely book some time down the Cape or in Vermont as well. All train/driving distance since we're in Boston.
We're road-tripping to NH for a week right after school ends. My parents might join us.
Not summer, but we're also planning a road trip to Florida in the fall to visit extended family and my grandmother (95) if she's still kicking. It may not be in the budget but we're considering doing the auto train back. DD1 really wants to fly and since that's not in the cards for various reasons, I thought this could be a fun-ish family adventure while also voting for the rail system with our money.
If we manage to do both trips we'll drive almost the entire East Coast.

We are going to our family vacation home the week of 4th of July. We want another trip, but with cross country training/a high school athlete, and camps it is hard to find a time we can all go. DH told DD that she and I could go to the Olympics, but I'd really rather all 5 of us go if it's international. I think there is a week between track ending and summer cc conditioning, so I might just email the coach to see if that's true.
We are trying to get through our spring trip planning - DS is going to Germany with school so DH and I are going to Paris and Brussels while he is there. We are planning Spain and Portugal for summer I think.
This summer is more low key (last summer we did Costa Rica and Italy which was awesome but also crazy lol). DS1 (17) will be working all summer so we don’t want to do a big trip where we leave him alone while we are really far away. DS2 is doing overnight camp for the first time.
We are doing a week in North Carolina for our traditional summer trip with extended family/all the cousins. My sister also lives there so we are tacking on a few days to visit her in Boone.
We rented a house for a week on the Cape and then are going to Nantucket for 3-4 days. This is close enough to home that we feel ok leaving DS1 home alone while he works, plus he can take the ferry on his own and come visit on the weekends.
DS1 also wants to visit university of Washington so we are trying to figure out a long weekend to go to Seattle - I’ve never been so that will be fun.
We’re doing Phoenix in March to visit my cousin- still haven’t booked yet, hopper keeps telling me to wait and the price will go down but I’m starting to not believe it. Lol I think we might do two nights in Sedona while we’re there to hike and take a day trip to the Grand Canyon.
In July we’re doing a week in Acadia again for the 7th year in a row. Right now we have a hotel booked, but hoping we can snag a campsite for a few days when they go live and then adjust the hotel booking. We have two couple friends and their kids coming with us and I’m so excited to show them around!
I really would like to get out to San Diego to see my family, but I don’t know if we’ll have the $$ for another plane ride.

My husband is currently unemployed. Obviously I really want him to have a job by the summer but if he doesn’t I would like to do a 2-3 week roadtrip where I can work 2-3 days a week from the hotel while they explore (and I remain super jealous) then I can spend the other 4-5 days of the week with them. I don’t see another opportunity for us to get away for so long if we are both working.
However I am completely overwhelmed with trying to plan this and how far we would be able to drive daily, etc. so as of now we have no plans.
I think we’ve settled on Vancouver/Whistler (I wanted warm beach but was outvoted) and possibly a week at a lake cabin at Minnesota that a business contact offered up to DH. We can’t book anything until DD is done with ballet summer intensive auditions and makes a decision on which one she wants to do; depending on that timing we may switch gears entirely.

We're driving to the inlaws in Philly in June and leaving the kids with them for a little over a week while me and H go to London & Paris. We will all be together in Philly a week before we leave for our trip and will stay for another week after we get back. We're also driving to Disney World in Feb so the travel budget is totally busted for this year.
