Just got back from the pediatrician with DS. Of course, his temp is 98.7 there, lol, and he seemed like he has started to perk up. I think whatever he had was probably just viral. He was worrying me this morning saying about a headache and sore neck though so I'm glad I had him checked out. Of course, these symptoms were mostly gone by the time we were at the doctor. His throat and ears looked good, no strep, and they had him bending his legs and examining his neck and doing whatever they do to look for signs of meningitis and that was all fine. Oh well, he can rest for the rest of the day on the couch. DH picked up his absentee folder from school since he had stop by there today anyway, and there's not much in it, thankfully.
We'll just stay in tonight then and start putting our junk out on the curb! Maybe some takeout because I'm over cooking for the week.
There’s a tree just at edge of my patio that has unofficially become a huge crow hangout. Some of them are huge! I know they’re extremely intelligent, remember faces, etc… so I’m always super nice when I see them gathering. I’ll be reading a magazine and when I look up I’ll greet them in a singsongy voice I usually reserve for dogs, cats, and babies ( “Hi guys!”, “Hope you’re having a good day”, etc…).
I want them to remember my face and associate me with positively. I’ve seen Hitchcock’s “The Birds”, I’m no fool!
Ooooh! Leave them treats and see if they start leaving you gifts.
fangoriagurkel - H has been working really hard to make the neighborhood crows his friend. He mostly gives them peanuts (in the shell). They follow him on walks around the neighborhood and he tosses the peanuts out. he also leaves them on our mailbox. They've only ever left one thing (we think) which was one of those weird wasp things that looks like a berry? Anyway.

DH and I spent most of the morning meeting with a design firm for our bathroom/bedroom repair/remodel. The cabinets we want are likely to take SIXTEEN WEEKS to come in once we order them. ::sobs into the guest-room mattress::
We haven't signed a contract with this firm yet, but I am strongly nudging DH. They are very competent, flexible on getting us options that will work for us price-wise, willing to give us a per-hour rate if there is shopping for specific things that we don't want to deal with, they're local and obviously have tons of knowledge of places for us to source things like tile, countertops, etc. I really like that their main designer can look at our current space and see both the current issues and ways to address them.
I'm so over the selection part of this process, too, TBH. I want to settle on a company to work with on cabinets and design, we already have a contractor for the actual building ... I'm ready to pick a design and start ordering stuff. We still won't be back in our bedroom until probably late summer, but I want to feel like we're making forward progress.
I love being a 1 car household for the most part, but occasionally it is annoying. On Monday, I want to attend a rally in DC for work. But my H has to go into the office on Mondays, so I will have to make him leave earlier than usual and drop me off at a train station. No big deal, except the rally will be over around lunchtime so I don't really know what I'm going to do after that. Probably take the train back to near where he works and then work remotely somewhere there? Except that means I'll have to drag my laptop to the rally, which is less than ideal. I also could grab a Lyft home but it's at least 40 minutes away so I don't really want to do that because $$$.
Come to think of it maybe I could take the train to the closest train station to home, which is not CLOSE but a Lyft would probably be cheaper from there.
I have so much to do this weekend that I'm already tired. We are going to see Chelsea Handler tomorrow night, which should be fun, and I'm ushering Mama Mia on Sunday, which is also great. But then I have to run a bunch of errands and grade a bunch of papers and do some things around the house, like ideally planting some bulbs and cleaning up weeds in the yard. I hate busy weekends!
When we were considering dropping to being a 1 car household, we figured that even some occasional expensive cabs/Lyfts would be way cheaper than the insurance/tax/registration/maintenance on a second car. Take the Lyft if it's what makes most sense!
Thank you - that's exactly what we said too! But when it comes to actually spending the money I'm being cheap, lol. But you are right!

Or can you leave the laptop in the car and take the train to your DH’s work and get the laptop? Idk what parking is like. Then you can work in the area and ride back with him?

Several years ago I tried to befriend the neighborhood murder. All I got for my trouble was dead snakes in the bird bath. I really wanted crow trinkets!

For L's birthday, I am looking at play cafe type places you can rent. But we're still at the age where we have way more adult guests than kids, and if everyone we plan to invite accepts then we'll be 4 people over the adult limit for the place that looks best and is cheapest. I don't know whether to just go for it and hope not everyone can come/that they aren't sticklers or suck it up and pay a) slightly more but do it at the same place his friend did it a few months ago* or b) pay significantly more to do it at a place that looks equally awesome and includes some food and isn't copying anyone else.
*This friend's mom's birthday is on the day we're doing L's party, so I don't want to her to hate me for not only stealing her birthday but also copying her party!

That's another option - I'm not super familiar with the area though so I'm not totally sure where he works in relation to where the train station is or places to work are (it's a newer job so I'm honestly not even sure of the building, lol). I'll have to talk to him this weekend and figure it out. I think dragging my laptop along is the worst option!

Are you really expected to work after the rally or have to? Just driving back after could easily take the rest of the afternoon and I wouldn’t expect anyone to take a laptop to a rally. I feel like around here it’s generally accepted that anything involving going into DC kills the whole day.
I have so much work stuff on my mind, morale at our company is low based off of a few things that are mostly out of our control. People are never happy with their pay, which is wildly competitive. We are so flexible with hours, give ample vacation time, don't request that people stay late or work outside of their scheduled hours. I hate it.
I think sometimes people like to complain, even if it’s unwarranted.
We had a few people leave for what they thought were remote jobs. Shocker, they were just 100% telework and now have to commute over a hour in at least once a week. Now they want to come back here.
Sorry, nope. We were kind of glad you left anyway.

Maybe do some work that evening if you had to?
Oh, IDK! I would think so since it ends so early. I'm not required to go to the rally so I just kind of figured I'd treat it like a normal workday. Unless there is a major accident I wouldn't expect it to take more than 90 or so minutes to get home from Union Station mid day. I mean realistically I probably won't get a ton done anyway but I should at least be available.
Most of the people going are taking a (chartered) bus or the MARC train from Baltimore, but it's a lot less complicated for me to just make my own way there since that would just add an indirect stop to my route.

A couple is having an argument over who moved whose phone last night. The women keeps telling him that she said “I’m putting your phone to charge” and he keeps saying he didn’t hear her and never touch his things again.
We’re the only three people in the infusion waiting room and it’s super awkward in here now. It would be super obvious if I changed seats not to face them now, so I’m going to keep my face buried in my phone and avoid eye contact at all costs.
Just a friendly PSA to please keep your fights in private, or at least hushed whispers like normal people.
candreco , I just want to acknowledge that I notice how much of the responsibility that you carry and it's a lot and I'm always amazed at how you do it all! Hope that's not creepy but I admire you!

I haven't read all of the responses yet.
TGI freaking F. The lawd is really testing me today. I had to re-wire my docking station as I lost a monitor. Required jumping on a call with my manager to trouble shoot, then grabbing a whole new cord. It kind of felt like The Challenge elimination event where someone ties a ton of knots on a playground and then you have to untangle it really fast. Anyway, monitor fixed for now.
My brother had a follow up with his surgeon and he got a really good progress note. Trying to give him some space, but it was a nice relief to hear things are going in the right direction, just VERY slowly. He said he was able to see some of the nurses that helped him for so long. I hope that gave them a boost "this is why I do what I do" to hear a thank you, and see his progress. I actually gave them a coffee place gift card when my brother got discharged because they were just so ah-mazing.
Finally, I've been chipping away at the new Taylor Swift album. My hat is off to those who stayed up all night, but it was going to be here after 8 AM. So far it's good, but it's so heavy she needs some upbeat songs to break it up. They don't even have to be happy lyrics, just a faster beat. I also had plans to stream some local friends music to offset the streams Taylor doesn't necessarily need. Maybe break that up then go back to her sad music.

FI signed up for a "free" smart watch at AT&T. This free watch is costing us $95 this month, which is just about the cost of the watch if you catch it on sale. There's all kinds of monthly fees on it, plus they put on a $17/mo protection plan, etc etc. FI should have asked more questions, and he's not a fine print or a detail kinda guy, he has ADHD. I'm mostly annoyed at AT&T for not being upfront about fees and the true cost when they advertised that it was free. Of course it's too late to return it and there's only so much I can cancel that they are charging us for.

My allergies are making me super foggy today at work. I just threw on my office hoodie over my work clothes because my office is freezing and now I just want to turn off all the lights and take a nap. If only.

I’d ask around and see what everyone else is doing!
sorry, I forget they are not standard across the US.
Here in MN, if you are convicted of a DUI, you get special plates that notify police you have a DUI and they can pull you over for anything, because you are on probation for a certain amount of time.
There are apparently some nesting geese and ducks at H’s facility. He has named them and brings them food. He just texted that he’s become the old man feeding ducks. I asked if he brings him joy, and he said it kinda does. And this exchange itself brings me joy.

I believe its 2 years.
Wow. That is something. And also, wtf to sending them to someone who hasn’t earned them. Hope it’s an easy, low stress fix.
litskispeciality, I am not sure what to think of Taylor's album and like you, I've been listening here and there for hours. It has definitely made me tear up a couple of times (which is surprising, I am not one who cries at much) but also it is pretty musically boring - I wish she had sprinkled in some bops, too. I think I'll probably have to listen a few times to really get into it, but also listening while I'm trying to work is kind of hard because the lyrics seem to be the whole point.
followyourarrow, that sucks about the watch and all the fees. I've been feeling the same way about some things with Verizon lately - it's very deceptive how they sell things. We had a lot of confusion with our account when my H got his recent "free" phone that required us to switch plans.
I had to Google whiskey plates. That sucks--you are deserving of some good luck!
Thank you. Like how does this even happen? I ordered new MN Lynx license plates (our WNBA team) and I get Whiskey plates.
Do you get a new registration form when your plates change? In my state, you do. If so, I'd be curious which plate design the registration indicates. In my state, the registration must match the plates.
