WFH half day then all the errands for the birthday weekend. Party tomorrow, family gathering on Sunday. Kid is not pleased we're having a family party and I told her to take it up with DH. I didn't want one either kid, but DH keeps thinking his family should be included in things.
I started the actual bilateral stimulation part of EMDR therapy yesterday and I would have said I didn't really have any side effects immediately after but I had the most vivid dreams all last night and I am exhausted this morning.
I need to finish my master's thesis this weekend and it's going really slowly so my ADHD performance on deadline can kick in any moment now...
I've had two of my kids' friends for a little over a week bc their parents are on a work conference trip. It's been a little insane getting 4 teenagers home, homeworked, fed, to bed, entertained, and up and out in the morning. They left last night. This morning, we were in the car, and the kids go "we miss Wyatt and Meadow". Kids...no.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Also, shutterfly is having free extra pages on their photobooks through Sunday. I finally finished up two books I partially started, completed a quick third last night and finally ordered them.
Why is it still so chilly? I should be wearing sandals now, not a sweater.
We did get some answers yesterday at the hospital, they said my dad would be there until at least Monday but then this morning they have reversed what they said and now it looks like he is being transferred to another hospital to look at his pacemaker. That hospital is closer to us but quite a bit further away from his home which is not great since we have to keep going to his house for his dog’s care.
I’m up early with travel anxiety, lol We fly to London overnight tonight for a week. I’ve been so slammed at work this week that I haven’t had the bandwidth to even think about packing or anything. So I’ll be doing that today and cleaning to get ready for the dog sitter.
When I had looked at the weather a week or so ago, it looked like it was going to be fairly chilly. But now I see highs in the upper 60s. But that’s a temperature that I feel like can either feel warmer than you’d think or cooler than you’d think. mrsukyankee - what do you recommend for walking around outside these days there? Light sweater with an optional jacket? Short sleeve with a jacket? My jacket in question is also kind of a rain jacket since I’ve been told showers can pop up often.
London weather is stupidly unpredictable - we go day by day. Warmer here can feel warmer than elsewhere due to humidity. What I would plan on: 2-3 short-sleeve tshirts that you can use under other things 1 long-sleeve tshirt or a light fleece to layer 1 sweater that isn't too heavy 1 jacket that is waterproof
Even if the day gets warmer, the evenings will still be quite cool, so having layers will be helpful. Note that London is also quite casual, so you really don't need tons of dresses or skirts unless you go to a very fancy restaurant or just like them instead of jeans/trousers.

Anyone have a DBA (Doctorate of Business Administration)? I still have a year left of my MBA, but I'm really considering getting a DBA. I'm just not sure where to get it from. None of my local universities offer it. A few local universities offer a PHD in Business, but I think I'd prefer the DBA, it sounds like it's more practical and applicable and less theoretical. The DBA would give me more options as I move up, but I'm honestly considering using it to teach, even adjunct, particularly as I get closer to retirement. I've mostly enjoyed doing my MBA so the extra 3 years on a DBA doesn't worry me. FI is super supportive of it, and honestly really encouraging it.

Oh, and TR - if you need anything or have any questions, just pm me any time and I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can. I hope you have a fabulous time!
I am off today, but I'm going in for a meeting at 11. Someone from another department scheduled it, so they don't see our office's vacation calendar, not a big deal since I only live like 5 minutes away. My parents were originally planning on coming out for DD's dance performance this weekend, but they weren't feeling up to it. So instead of my usual running around getting groceries and washing sheets and prepping the guest room, I'm simply relaxing. After my meeting, I think I'll run to the transfer station and take a long walk.

So I think the universe is trying to kill me today. I slept funny and jostled my Picc line around so I’m going to need my dressing changed today (and I find out if my last infusion is on Sunday, this Tuesday, or next Wednesday the 8th) and then I nearly stabbed myself in the eye while applying mascara.

I just spent way too long saying those names. I say them the same. I can see how you could say Aaron and Erin a bit differently, but my brain can't figure out a way for Don and Dawn to be different!
L had a whole rollercoaster of emotions this morning for absolutely no reason, and I'm feeling pulled in a bunch of different directions trying to balance work and family visiting. Like no, I cannot meet you for lunch on the day I only work a half day and don't take lunch, but ugh, I feel like with all the wedding stuff I haven't seen them as much as usual, and they're only here another 8 days! I need more hours in the day right now.

I realized after I got dressed this morning that my shirt was on backwards. So I jokingly asked my kids "do you notice anything wrong with my outfit?" and my daughter responded "yeah, you don't match". Gee, thanks kid. Nothing like a teenager to knock you down a few pegs.

We were just talking about this at work lol. Apparently teenage girls are brutally honest.
I was joking that its good thing I have a boy who gives compliments....for now. This mama can't handle the criticism. 🤦🏼♀️
Now I want to record myself LOL. Erin and Aaron is more subtle, but Don and Dawn is very distinct and I don't think you'd ever confuse them based on the way I say it. Don has an "ahhh" sound in the middle, while Dawn is "awww". My mouth makes a completely different shape.

My teen boy constantly likes to remind me how short I am as he pats me on the head....lol.
I’ve decided to apply to grad school…I’m applying to three schools, and if I get accepted, I think I’m going to quit my job to attend full time starting with the fall semester. I’d rather get it done in one year versus dragging it out over two years while working and being exhausted. I’m terrified at the idea of being out of the workforce for a year, but also really excited about it. We could afford to pay for the program without having to take out loans, and FI is fully on board with me doing this. I really think it would be good for me to take this step, but I’m still scared. We’d also have to get married before I quit so I could get on his health insurance, but that’s fine too. I filled out all the applications, uploaded all my documentation, wrote all the personal statements…I just need to confirm with the two people I’d like to use for letters of recommendation that they’re willing to write them, and then I can submit the apps. I’m so nervous.
What will you study? I'm close to pulling the trigger on an EdD program but will do it while working. My graduate coursework from my MSed is sadly too old to transfer/count towards this degree.
Just saw a threads post with people talking about how there is not a discernable difference in the pronunciation of Don and Dawn.
There is a very clear, obvious difference to me, but I have now learned that this is regional and my mind is blown.
Ha! We have many conversations about this, DH and I are from NC, we pronounce words the same and our friends make fun of us. We pronounce these words the same
Will and we’ll Mill and meal Fill and feel Hill and he’ll and heal Mail and Mel Etc
Now I will add Don and dawn to that because they are the same to me

I am originally from PA but on the West side. Having a difference between those 2 names sounds like the distinctive Philadelphia accent.

Ugh, sorry to hear.
You'd mentioned your dad's pup can't be around other dogs-could you bring him to your place and gate him off from your other animals at your house? Would definitely reduce all the running back and forth.

Pronounciation is a huge thing for me and DH doesn't get it. It one of the few things I cannot get him to understand, which can lead to some interesting conversations when he pronounces something and I think it's a different word.

I have no clue what we are up to this weekend. DS had managed to pick up some games today and tomorrow and now he is finishing up his training at his restaurant job tomorrow afternoon/evening and same on Sunday. I am happy that he is motivated to make money...lol.
TR, you mentioned cleaning for the dog sitter. I LOVE coming home from vacation to a clean house! Our dog sitter once remarked that my house is “immaculate” and I had to tell her that we cleaned especially well before leaving for the trip.
Also, shutterfly is having free extra pages on their photobooks through Sunday. I finally finished up two books I partially started, completed a quick third last night and finally ordered them.
Now I just have 2023 to do.
I love that promotion. I had started my 2023 book back in Jan. and had been slowly working on it, but this promo finally made me finish my last 2 months. It was great...I added it to my cart and my original price was something like $127 and with the promo, it brought it down to $66.
I got dressed in real clothes after working out today, and after finishing getting ready, I decided I didn't like the shirt I was wearing because it felt uncomfortable, so I changed into a shirt I liked a lot more and felt much more comfortable afterwards. I'm eating lunch now, and I just dripped melted butter from green beans down my shirt and now I need to change again and I'm sad.
