Ds was supposed to go to a wrestling meet tomorrow but decided he didn't want to (peewees so not important to be there) go. Good thing he decided not to go because he is sick again and the mountain pass we would have to drive over is supposed to get 2 - 3 feet of snow by Sunday. And next weekend will be crazy so I'm glad to have a weekend of no plans for the first time since early March. Ds has a history club field trip next Friday, we are going to a Supercross race in Denver Saturday, and oldest kid is in a production at her college on Sunday.
Speaking of older kid, they will be 19 next week! How in the world is that possible??
Now that we don't have to do that we have no plans. I'm hoping we can start some demo in the cabins we want to remodel, but H has gout so I'm not sure that will happen either.
Just saw a threads post with people talking about how there is not a discernable difference in the pronunciation of Don and Dawn.
There is a very clear, obvious difference to me, but I have now learned that this is regional and my mind is blown.
Also Aaron and Erin. They are pronounced completely differently!
Growing up, my Appalachian accent had no difference between pin and pen/tin and ten. I don’t think I could do that on command anymore. But, it was true.
My schedule is weird, and today is like Sunday for me. I had all these great intentions this AM to batch cook a few new things for the week, went to the grocery store to get everything, and have all my supplies out and ready - yet here I sit.
Someone mentioned taxes upthread and reminded me - I paid our taxes on the 15th through Turbotax, and the federal taxes still haven't been deducted from my bank account. Is that normal? Our state taxed DID get deducted so I know the bank info was right, and I have an email confirming that our federal return was accepted. So why haven't they taken the money yet?
I don't necessarily mind keeping my $4300 (sob) longer, but also it causes extra effort to keep track of the money in our account since the balance is not reflective of a huge payment coming out!
Ours took over 2 weeks! It kept throwing me off too.
Ok, so who is I’m the office saying all these words out loud to check themselves?
I’m off today and somehow slept until 11! The dog got me up at 7:30 to get out of the bedroom. I let her put knowing she’d be back in 10 minutes and wake me up to go out. But no, she got a drink of water, came back and jumped back into bed and napped again. She was, however, really, really happy when I finally got myself out of bed and fed her.

I love my dog, but I really wish he would let someone else walk him. I have a horrible cough and any physical effort sets it off.
We find out about a surprise raise on Monday and, if the rumors are true, it should be pretty significant. I’m really hoping it is enough that I can quit my weekend job. I love the job but working seven days a week is exhausting.

My husband has a bit of an accent specific to his city/state where he grew up. I think I actually annoy him when I ask him to clarify things like did you say bear or beer. I would probably have to ask which Don or Dawn as well as most people don't enunciate the "awn", so I only hear it if I know you're talking about Dawn. Aaron and Erin are different, but I often find people say Erin for both.
ETA: You can tell if you're native to my husband's home city/general area by how you say the name of the city. If you pronounce it different than the way it's spelled you're native, if you say it closer to it's spelling (non-phonetic to further complicate matters) then they know you're an outsider, lol.
I'm so glad it's Friday. Today was flying by and now this last leg is draaaaging. I'm tempted to step away for a short break as it's slow, but feel like I'll get "caught".
Finally, I truly don't mean to be a fresh face when I say this. I didn't know people on here really do "would you eat this?" I thought it was one of those "I don't use the Facebook because I don't care what people had for lunch" complaints that never really happens, but lately I've seen at least 2 WYET posts. The more you know I guess, lol.
We are going to get weather, already confirmed tornado. My parents are supposed to be driving into town later, right in the middle of it. I am stuck at work and it will blow up and get busy soon and I am just unsettled. More about them driving in than being stuck at work late in a Friday.

I have never heard anyone pronounce aaron and erin differently and that includes people with those names, I've said them out loud a million times just now and can't figure out the difference. I know Don and Dawn are supposed to be slightly different, but I say them the same.
I just hung my windchimes up and thought of this place. I was super cold last night, but when I turned my heat up a smidge, nothing happened. My boiler had a low water alert. I got it back up and running, but the glass sight tube is leaking. I found a video on how to replace it, and it doesn't look particularly hard, but I'm afraid to try and make it worse. But, I also don't want to spend $1000 for a plumber to come out.
I like to do no mow May for the bees, but all the old people in my new neighborhood are making me self conscious, with their perfect lawns. Why do they all hate the bees?
Battle of the Books is over. They did so well! Didn't win but everyone is happy with the performance. The taxidermied tails were present and mom/daughter suggested they be attached to the team poster. The teacher vetoed that idea too.
I remember on TK there was a thread where we all recorded voice memos of us saying all the words that sound different in regional accents. Does anybody else remember that?

I have no idea how to navigate this AND keep my sanity intact. J and I will be together 7y in September. There has been talk the last 6y about us and our kids moving in together. We haven't been able to pull the trigger bc of Miss R's issues (which we have somewhat under control), timing, the protective order situation with my now late xh, and rental availability in our price range. We're talking about getting engaged! and marriage! which means that time is coming.
The concerns - Miss R will be a sophomore/junior in HS. Granted she is not having the typical HS experience but she does have her friends that she's had since elementary school. My parents moved me cross country between my sophomore and junior years of HS and it was a DISASTER! I swore I would never do that to my kid. While she is entirely supportive of us marrying, she DOES NOT want to move away from her friends. Unlike my cross-country move, this move would be 45 mins but it would be a new school and making new friends. She is NOT your typical roll w the punches kid. Change and transitions spike her anxiety. We're also at the evaluation stage of her IEE with the district. The last thing I want to have to do is restart that whole process with a new district.
We are limited as to where we can move to as J is limited to his current county due to custody arrangements for his son (parents cannot move out of the county w/o court permission) and his job as a first responder. I have no limitations as I'm R's ONLY parent.
J looked at a rental this morning. I'm completely torn. As badly as I want to take this next step, I can't take it w/o putting R first. Ugh

This is where I learned there’s some part of the US that calls a rain shower while sunny “the devil beating his wife”.
I'm sorry pinkdutchtulips. How is your daughter doing right now? I know you all have been through the wringer. Is there any chance of keeping the status quo until she graduates? I know it's not ideal for you and J though.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

jinkies It took me about 2 years in my new city to realize that men named Aaron were not actually named Erin because they sound so similar here. (They both sound like Eh-Rin.) Where I grew up, they sound like completely different names.
