Big Kid finished her school project at 1030 last night. Usual bed time is 9. As usual she utterly hated me when I was making her work on it, but after it was done she said thank you for the help & making her do it because otherwise she'd either have been up later or not finished. Break my damn heart kid. The older the kids get the more I realize how... not great.... my parents were. #DebbieDowner
Plus side, because of Little Kid's allergy I'm guaranteed a chaperone spot on their class field trip to the zoo! At least I don't have to be uncertain and questioning if I'll be part of the lottery to go with them.

This week has kind of flown by. It's been a good week too.
I found out yesterday I got a 14% raise. And it'll be back dated to 3/1, so next week's check will be nice.
Because of that we finally booked a trip we've been semi planning for a month (not really, but it definitely gave us the push to follow through). We'll be going to Mexico (Rivera Maya) at the end of Sept/beginning of Oct for 6 nights. Just H and I, as a (belated) anniversary trip. The resort is adults only. I cannot wait.
I mentioned earlier this week in a randoms that the guy we were hiring to do our roof at our summer cottage backed out. He gave us a name of another company that he knew of that could do the job this spring. They went out there yesterday and gave us an estimate and it's about $800 cheaper AND they are going to do the shed as well (H and BIL originally were going to do that themselves, but since this guy said he can do it for less than we were budgeting, might as well)
We got our tax returns back yesterday (fed) and today (state). I was shocked they came back so soon (I didn't file until the 15th)... especially the state return. Not that the money is going to anything fun. See above roof, LOL.
No real plans this weekend. I might go to brunch with a friend on Sunday. And I should probably do some spring cleaning.
I realized after I got dressed this morning that my shirt was on backwards. So I jokingly asked my kids "do you notice anything wrong with my outfit?" and my daughter responded "yeah, you don't match". Gee, thanks kid. Nothing like a teenager to knock you down a few pegs.
We were just talking about this at work lol. Apparently teenage girls are brutally honest.
I was joking that it’s good thing I have a boy who gives compliments....for now. This mama can't handle the criticism. 🤦🏼♀️
yesterday my teen daughter told a group of adults she doesn’t know that I’m depressed. So that’s great. (She was with DH picking up take out on the way home from practice yesterday and they ran into parents of my little one’s peers.)
The pta rumor mill around here is wild so this will be fun. I’ve already been told so many times by acquaintances that I’m pregnant or getting a divorce. So now I get to be depressed, too. Blarg.
Now I want to record myself LOL. Erin and Aaron is more subtle, but Don and Dawn is very distinct and I don't think you'd ever confuse them based on the way I say it. Don has an "ahhh" sound in the middle, while Dawn is "awww". My mouth makes a completely different shape.
Exactly! Don sounds nothing like Dawn at all. My husband (grew up in NYC) says them like us too.
One regional thing I say that I don’t hear a lot is pronounce can (I can do it) and can (canning jam, a can of green beans) differently. “I can do it” is more like “ken” and “can of beans” sounds more like I’m saying “pan” or “land”.

uggh! I am sorry. Our teen daughter is like this for sure. She will occasionally give me really sweet compliments but most of the time it's brutal honestly. She doesn't like that I've stopped coloring my hair and keeps pointing out my grays. I really really need a nudge of self acceptance about this not criticism. She's 17 but been this way since 12. She's usually right too which makes it worse. She has such an eye. My friends tell me with a girl you have to wait until about 25 for it to end. I do love hanging out with her and would pick her for a friend even if she weren't my daughter. But she keeps reminding me she's not my friend. LOL.
Our 19 year old has his issues too but he's never not even once put me down. I don't think boys tend to be critical. His thing is not telling us much at all. LOL.
We have an empty nest night, new to us and still getting used to them. DD has plans and DS is still in college. We decided tonight to walk the dog early, I'll be in pajamas by 3 and DH will go get food for us. And then we will watch a movie which is always hard since we like such different movies.
I've got tennis and one of my clients parents is not happy with her daughter's therapy results. So I have to do a phone call. That's going to suck.
I’ve decided to apply to grad school…I’m applying to three schools, and if I get accepted, I think I’m going to quit my job to attend full time starting with the fall semester. I’d rather get it done in one year versus dragging it out over two years while working and being exhausted. I’m terrified at the idea of being out of the workforce for a year, but also really excited about it. We could afford to pay for the program without having to take out loans, and FI is fully on board with me doing this. I really think it would be good for me to take this step, but I’m still scared. We’d also have to get married before I quit so I could get on his health insurance, but that’s fine too. I filled out all the applications, uploaded all my documentation, wrote all the personal statements…I just need to confirm with the two people I’d like to use for letters of recommendation that they’re willing to write them, and then I can submit the apps. I’m so nervous.
What will you study? I'm close to pulling the trigger on an EdD program but will do it while working. My graduate coursework from my MSed is sadly too old to transfer/count towards this degree.
I’d be doing a program for organizational development. The concentration would change a bit depending on which program/school I ended up going with (some focus on change, some focus on leadership, and another focuses or strategic communication), but my undergrad degree is in that field, as well, and with the amount of change and transition going on across pretty much every field in both the public and private sectors, I feel like it’s a good time to further that education a bit to make myself more marketable going forward.

I am originally from PA but on the West side. Having a difference between those 2 names sounds like the distinctive Philadelphia accent.

I saw a video interview of Lisa Ann Walter talking about how she does such a good job of a real Philly accent on Abbott Elementary. She’s from Baltimore ish, like you, right? They’re pretty similar
Dawn and Don are subtly different. Erin and Aaron sound completely different and it baffles me that anyone considers them to sound the same.
I am off at noon and I'm meeting my friend to see the 45th anniversary of Alien in theaters. I've never seen it before and it's her favorite movie.
Lucy and I watch Criminal Minds, and when they had both Aaron Hotchner and Erin Strauss we would both laugh at how they sounded the same (in their accents not ours).
Omg remember when goat farm chick told me I was pronouncing my own name wrong? Good times.
I have pressure washers here cleaning our house and patio/sidewalk. So excited. This is the pinnacle of adulthood.
Fairly quiet Friday at work. We don't have any plans tonight which is fine because the rest of the weekend is busy. I wish we could hang out and enjoy our newly clean patio but I think it might be too chilly by the evening. I just want like a 75 degree Friday to have a fire and sit outside. It's going to be 83 on Sunday though.
We have a charity gala tomorrow evening. It's in my hometown so DS will stay at my parents and then we will too. It'll be nice to be able to Uber back there and not worry about driving. I am getting my hair/makeup done late morning so unfortunately I'll have to miss DS's baseball game but he has like 12 of those so I think it's OK. It will be fun to get dressed up and eat a nice meal and hang with friends.

I have lost 80lbs and have muscles that I am SO PROUD OF, but my 6 yo son loves to tell me that "the fat on your under arm is so satisfying to play with." lolsob

I hit a wall today at work - utter fatigue. I had to cancel my final two sessions as I just couldn't do it. I think it was primarily due to dealing with the loss of my colleague followed by working with clients who are dealing with loss as well (far more than I normally have), dealing with my H's issues and just not sleeping long enough (and possibly a continuation of long Covid). I came home, dealt with the dog and put on sweats to hang on the couch. I hope I feel better tomorrow as I have a date night planned with my H.
shauni27, I have done it myself (just the sidewalks not the house) and it is so satisfying! We've never done the whole house though so I am springing for that this Spring! Our mulch is also getting done later. My little old 1920s house is getting a glow-up today lol.

Yes! I think she’s from closer to DC but a lot of central Marylanders sound a lot like people in Philly, maybe slightly more Southern.
We are starting to look more seriously at college for DS. He is determined to go across the country, and while I love it for him in theory, the reality of him being so far away makes me a little sick to my stomach. I want him to be adventurous so I would never tell him this. But I am holding out hope that he gets some kind of offer he can't refuse from a college on the east coast.

Now see this one I can relate to. I definitely "can of beans" differently than "I can do it". I'm in the Philly area but I don't know if that is universal around here.
I pronounce there, their, and they're all the same way. My 8th grade English teacher, who was originally from Boston, pronounced these each very differently from each other.
Someone mentioned taxes upthread and reminded me - I paid our taxes on the 15th through Turbotax, and the federal taxes still haven't been deducted from my bank account. Is that normal? Our state taxed DID get deducted so I know the bank info was right, and I have an email confirming that our federal return was accepted. So why haven't they taken the money yet?
I don't necessarily mind keeping my $4300 (sob) longer, but also it causes extra effort to keep track of the money in our account since the balance is not reflective of a huge payment coming out!
I'm borrowing a friend's pickup tomorrow and driving all over the place to hopefully pick up arm chairs I found on FB Marketplace. The weather forecast isn't great, though. But it's been holding steady that it will only be overcast in the morning and start storming mid-afternoon; fingers crossed I can get all the running around done so I don't have to mess with tarps or anything.
I'm really excited to see my basement start coming together. If it looks half as good in real life as it does in my mind, it will be an awesome space for my little library idea. I just hope all these chairs I'm looking at tomorrow are comfortable!
Add me to the Erin and Aaron do not sound different. Unless you do the A-a-Ron Key & Peele skit. Someone explain lol
I grew up in NJ and pronounce Dawn/Don and Erin/Aaron very differently! My partner is from the Midwest and does not. I will even say Aaron and Erin to him (differently!!!) and he will say he can only maybe hear a difference.
I was so excited to get a facial today. I got to the spa and they informed me my appointment is next Friday. Omg. So that was a first world problem bummer.

I snail mailed a check for mine and it was cashed within 5 days. I would make a phone call.

This class for my MBA is such a disaster. My classmates and I are freaking out about the final. The practice exam doesn't line up with the lectures as all. We asked the professor for help and after two days he finally replied. He told us to look up how to solve the problems on the internet. No lie.
arielroux, congrats on this decision! I'm graduating with my MA in OD and leadership next month. I worked full-time, so it took 2.5 years, but I really enjoyed the program!
