I saw this and I'm glad she's suing. I remember that first night of being totally exhausted and trying to hold DD in the bed with me without falling asleep. I sent her to the nursery so I could get some sleep, which a lot of people judge and isn't even an option in many hospitals. But it's a safety issue and a necessity, IMO. Nurses should not hand a newborn to a tired, drugged up mom and just walk away.
The hospital I'm delivering at "strongly encourages rooming in" but does have a nursery. Fuck them. I am steeling myself to tell them to take babyharpy to the nursery. I haven't gotten a stretch of sleep longer than 3 hours in several weeks now, thanks to my pregnancy induced carpal tunnel waking me up. I'm already so exhausted. I cannot imagine how much worse it's going to be after labor.
I hate all these policies being so aggressively pushed. And the shaming of bottle feeding. With DS1 he was in the NICU so it was out of my hands. With DS2 i had no issues telling the nurses he needed to spend the night in the nursery. H didn't spend the night with me so I was on my own.
My only surprise is that he didn't dick around with this longer to piss off Pence. I guess Mikey's groveling about not running against him in 2020 were enough.
1. Insure it 2. Wear what I like (which isn't much) 3. I should be storing the stuff I don't love in our safety deposit box but I keep forgetting to have H take it/take me to add me to the access list.
I get manis and pedis fairly regularly. I never thought I'd be judged on jewels or nail care.
Trying to define a Centrist Democrat. Someone who is meh on single payer? Pro-business (what is anti business though? I'm pro-business. I work on Wall St. But I'm still pro-regulation)?
Someone who is pro-law enforcement? Who is pro-death penalty? I feel like these are very 90's definitions and we've evolved beyond these stances but maybe I've just moved hard left.
I don't know anymore but without defining these I don't know how to push back against the overall idea. I can push back in issues but I'm an incrementalist. I will own that fully because that is how change occurs. Which can suck. But I'd rather move the ball down the field than stay put - or go backwards like we're doing now.
Ugh Glenn Thrush. He's been pinging my radar lately but this is just stupid. Any president would have a tough response to NK. Trump's response is not tough, it is stupid and leaves NK no room for negotiation. That's just shitty diplomacy. 45 has become the barking dog.
Listening to my first Hellbent podcast and I liked it so much that I texted a few girlfriends to recommend it to them. One responded telling me to check out "Call your girlfriend". I haven't listened yet so it's not a personal recommendation but I trust this friend.
I'm tired of being a "centrist" because I'm not a bernie bro. PSA folks are extremely guilty of this accusation. I'm progressive and lefty and proud of it. And I don't like bernie. I do think of HRC as centrist in many ways and lefty in others, and I supported her. That's pragmatism in addition to liking her positions and respecting her experience.
Amen. I was talking about this last night. I am far to the left of my Bernie-bro sister and yet she has the gall to think she's more progressive than I am. She didn't know what redlining is and yet I fail the lefty purity test? No.
Being pragmatic and strategic is smart, not selling out. Selling out is turning your back on minorities, LGBTQ, pro-choice, etc all in he hopes of chasing a diminishing white vote.
If they can find a way to court enough voters in the heartland, fine. I'd like the seats back but I'm not for moving backwards to do so.
Football was my husband's favorite sport to watch when we first met. I'd grown up loving college football so I adopted his pro team and that was life for about 15 years. But in the past few years we slowly stopped watching most games and now have mostly moved to an anti stance. Mainly for all the reasons articulated above.
I've been semi following the CK thing, hoped he'd land with Baltimore. I have to catch up on the latest.
I also don't know enough about the rule changes but the demographics of the players vs the coaches and ownership (and I'm assuming fan base but I don't know the stats on that) and the risk these guys are taking physically each down - it's just a bloodlust thing I can no longer support.
Awesome. Thanks. Just had H add MSNBC to Sling because I've been wanting to catch her show.
I'm like most here - a bit over the CM guys. Congrats - you have one female host, one POC, blah blah blah. It's not enough. I want more voices. I don't love DrRay's show and the audio is crap during their news segment but it's still my favorite part of any of the shows.
They need to get over the CTH dudes. Those guys are toxic.
Oh god. He's so awful. I've been thinking about the perm WH staff lately. I know he fired the usher but I'm hoping he rest if they are getting through this as personally unscathed as possible.
H just shouted to me "What's going on with Bernie Sanders?" Me "Shit. Is it healthcare or Russia? Oh. One of just two* to vote against Russia sanctions. Yeah Bernie. You're so pure. Putin' shot the goods on you too."
It is going to rain for most of Friday and Saturday. ☹️ It just stopped being unbearably hot and now comes the rain and flooding. I just want it to be fall already!
I mean we need an adult in the room, but it brings be great pleasure to have Reince terrorized. He normalized this fucker. He made him palatable even just for a bit. It is biting him in the ass. Well I mean it is biting all of us in the ass because the more "normal" people Trump gets rid of the more fucked this nation is, but also fuck Reince.
This. I love that they all think they're not going to be bit in the ass by Trump. They think it'll be the other guy. And if he weren't subverting our democracy I'd pop all the popcorn and munch away while the GOP crashed and burned. But all the other damage being done to real people, I just can't take much glee from it.
Semi-related. I just completed my annual Anti-Money Laundering course and there's a whole section on sanctions and dealing with government officials. All I could think was that I hope our internal controls are flagging all EO officials and cabinet heads, etc for additional scrutiny or offboarding them as clients. We've had enough mess, no need to be further tainted by any of these clowns. That's not my side of the house so I have no knowledge or visibility into it.
I can't figure out s present for H's 40th birthday. It was this past Monday. I'm clueless and spent all my fun money on the pets lately so any suggestions? I wanted to get him a Sonos but I'm not sure.
No. I am done with the excuse that it is tradition to invite POTUS. F that shit. Everyone knows what their getting with this slimeball. Continuing a tradition simply for the sake of it is nonsense. I'm angry either the BSA for not thinking this through and the same goes for the American Legion. It is 2017. You know what you are getting with this man. No.
It all depends on how you use your sink. We rarely have fished sitting in our sink. Everything goes straight into the dishwasher. I hate our unequally divided sink. Partly because the garbage disposal is in the smaller side. It doesn't make any sense. It's so much easier to rinse things in the larger side so the disposal should be on that side. Argh. I can't wait to rip out our kitchen and do it my way.
But really think about how you and your family use your sink.
I hate the before and after school care nonsense (and I WFH so I have loads more flexibility than most).
A friend of mine used her daycare as before care for her daughter. Eventually she was able to drop it once she found another mom at school who would take her daughter to school in the morning. I've offered to be a drop in service for other moms too.
So hopefully you can find a traditional daycare that'll work.
"Trump has asked his advisers about his power to pardon aides, family members and even himself in connection with the probe, according to one of those people. A second person said Trump’s lawyers have been discussing the president’s pardoning powers among themselves."
Edit: sorry, I got distracted by work and didn't refresh before posting the link and excerpt.
I saw this earlier but just the headline. I hope they can get sanctuary. Doesn't Canada have something like to just can't cross into Canada, you have to apply for it 150 miles into the interior? Best of luck to them all.
