Well, presumably most of us come here to dick around under an assumed name because it affords us a modicum of privacy. It makes me uncomfortable if the person running the joint starts willy-nilly posting admin-only information publicly.

you mean info only an admin could know...like the screen name you publicly post under??
Why not out someone, though? Is there some sort of liability to you?
Honestly, I'm just not sure how we should proceed in cases like this. I think we need to decide on some real rules instead of just randomly outing people every now and then. Do we want all trolls to be publicly outed? (And obviously keep in mind that most of the time trolls mask their info so we have no idea who they are anyway.) I just don't know what the standard should be here.

But why? We're not talking about personal info - we're talking about identifying an AE. I don't have a dog in the fight, I was just wondering what the hang up was in identifying.

We're not asking for anyone's IP address, plus Ellie already said she can't see it. She can only see usernames that have the same IP address (without actually seeing the IP address).

I think if you can out them, then you should.
If they're smart enough to use different IP's, then good.
Seriously though, the person has been warned in private. I'm not sure yet how else to deal with it but for now I'm not going to out anyone publicly. Sorry I created more drama.
You outed someone once before based on an IP address match-up. That person wasn't a well-known reg. You set the prescendent then.
Now it seems like you're trying to protect someone just becuase they are a well-known reg. So it seems that it's less to do with the actual violation of the TOS that the AE commits, as it is the identity of the poster itself that dictates how you handle it. I don't like that.
CLIFFS NOTES VERSION: NO FAIR!!!!!
To be clear it's not someone that I'm friends with or have even had interactions with afaik - just a name that I recognize from the boards. So I'm not trying to protect a friend here or anything, and honestly I'm not around this board enough to really know the person's reputation or anything anyway.
I get how annoying I am being right now. I shouldn't have said anything to being with.

I sort of feel like it should be left up to the mod(s) of the individual boards - just like how they are held accountable for what gets deleted, in terms of whether that deletion goes against what the majority of the board would want. If one or both of the ML mods think the troll should be outed, then I think that info should be given to them. JMO.

I could get on board with this. The individual boards have made their own rules thus far and it has worked out pretty well for us.
