Honestly, I'm just not sure how we should proceed in cases like this. I think we need to decide on some real rules instead of just randomly outing people every now and then. Do we want all trolls to be publicly outed? (And obviously keep in mind that most of the time trolls mask their info so we have no idea who they are anyway.) I just don't know what the standard should be here.
I sort of feel like it should be left up to the mod(s) of the individual boards - just like how they are held accountable for what gets deleted, in terms of whether that deletion goes against what the majority of the board would want. If one or both of the ML mods think the troll should be outed, then I think that info should be given to them. JMO.

The other outing was different--those people were repeatedly posting another poster's personal info. I don't think we should be outing AEs because we don't like the content of what they are saying.
If this person said something disgusting, they deserve to be outed and flamed just like if they would have done the same shit under their real screen name

the post was deleted for violating TOS, same as the poster who was revealing personal info
Can't we agree that if a troll is being clearly mean/hurtful then they should be outed? As opposed to funny trolls like TambsFetus, etc. that are light hearted in nature. Most mean trolls probably aren't regs anyway, so this isn't bound to happen too often, especially after today.
If we're going to out anyone trolling regs, can Ellie also tell us who's behind all the hoobs trolls? Because they've done far worse than make fun of someone's bangs or call someone boring.

I don't understand why "AE" is a protected status.

And to be perfectly clear here, I think the outrage over this is hilarious, considering what people have posted here in the past. BUT I serve the people. And the people want to know.
Will we also be getting the info on the hoobs and sprky imposters? Or do they get a pass for trolling people we don't like anymore?
i would be all for this if they are also out-able. since she can't see the actual IP, just see if it matches up to a current poster, that might not be possible.
While I'm eager to find out who the troll was, I think that there is a lot of gray area as to what is hurtful and what is funny. I don't have specific examples right now, but I think in the future, if it's left up to one's interpretations, it could get hairy.

So are some TOS more important than others?
We have always treated revealing personal info more seriously than other TOS violations.

sprky's imposter revealed herself (elle).
I would agree, though.
I also agree. Seriously, THREE Hoobs imposters and we're all aflutter about someone calling Sakelp's bangs ugly? That's been said before and no one lost their shit like this.

Scotty, I guess I don't see why this is the bigger outrage given all that's gone on here in recent month. Bangs can be cut, curled, or molded with gel into an ash blond middle finger. It pales in comparison to the things that have flown off the fingers of our resident trolls.
I do think that if someone is using an AE to be cruel to someone, then a public outing is in order.
If someone is using an AE to get advice on something that they're not comfortable sharing under their real screen name, then it should stay private.
This is partly my concern about outing AEs. Because at some point, it will be forgotten what the "rules" are.
I also just don't get why outing is even important, other than to demonstrate that an Admin is willing and able to do so (which might be great for entertainment purposes, but not for ProBoards business purposes). I prefer my authority figures to be hands-off.
Plus, if ABC is identified as the troll, what stops her from abandoning the ABC SN and coming back as XYZ?
