My daughter is screwed. I'm not piercing her ears, I hate big bows on babies, and I'll dress her in any old color. Apparently I choose the gay kid after all!

I'm not piercing my daughter's ears either. (We agree! Yay!)

Haha, well from what people have told me, in Chile I could dress her in a lacy pink dress and still get "ohhhh, little boy!" if the baby doesn't have pierced ears. So I'm not sure how this affects my hypothetical daughter's sexuality odds. Maybe I should stick to just having a dog, it's less complicated.

Sounds like it will be a rough start to life. Do you live in Chile?

My daughter will not be into princesses or sparkles. I'm going to teach her the right way of things! She will play with trucks and racecars just like I did as a kid. Her dad will teach her to play bass guitar and her grandfather will sign her up for t-ball and soccer. I'm pretty sure she will be a perfectly well adjusted member of society when she grows up.
Why would anyone choose to be gay? It seems like if it really was a choice, people would make the choice that gives them equal rights and doesn't put them in potential danger in some cases.
LOL that it is possible that the VP is a girl. I don't recognize you but I assume your'e a troll.
If people think my daughter is a boy because of what she's wearing or because of the baby gear she has, should I correct them or not?
No, you should make sure all of her clothes and baby gear is pink and glittery and put a bow in her hair. If you don't do all that she will catch the gay.

Yes. Although we might be living in the US by the time we have kids. But we'll travel back to Chile if so and will travel to the US if we're still in Chile. This makes your plan of following gender norms so strictly sound harder, since those aren't necessarily the same in each country.
So I chose to be a lesbian, but you did not choose your sexual orientation. How does that work, exactly?
I think that straight is the default and those who choose to be gay are making that choice, or something in their life influenced them to go away from the norm.

Awesome! I bet that is quite the adventure! I can understand that it might be hard, but I bet you can handle it, you seem to be quite capable.

@buckybells, wouldn't it be kind of great if, after all the ridiculous stupidity about Obama "not being a US citizen," it turned out that the VP were actually a woman in a partnership with another woman, and since he's white with a good Christian-sounding name, no one thought to check?
Yes, but don't be sad if she is mistaken for a boy, or make sure that she has a hair bow or something like that in.
So ok for either?
What about Sophie the Giraffe? If I have a boy next, can he play with a giraffe named Sophie? Or should we just change the giraffe's name?
No, do not let boys and girls mix toys. The gay is contagious. If your future son touches your daughter's toys, he should be quarantined in a room of GI Joe's and clothed in camouflage for approximately one week.
