Heyooooooooooooooo! I'm home now. I left the other three at the bar and booked it to catch my bus. Such is the life of a commuter.
So, the only person there who was around during the Exodus was an intern at the time. She came to the bar with us along with the site manager, Heather. Who said we can give out her email if you want to talk to her. So let me know if you want to talk to her.
They were actually really nice. Everyone from pre-Exodus was fired/is gone now. So taking it out on the noobs seemed silly. We were pretty open about who we were though. And the definitely want us back. So there, you should all be satisfied by that, right!?! Their descriptors for how our situation was handled basically match ours (suck, awful, insane).
Also, Nest Cayla is super sweet. And everyone who works there is basically gorgeous. I definitely felt inadequate in the looks dept. Especially since I was dressed like a scrub.
I am still a little drunk. Sober update will have to wait. Sowwy.
And finally, the other half of the focus group mostly read The Nest content. REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! And you all wondered who did that! (I sure as fuck did). So that's a fun fact of the evening.
how did you respond to this? did you tell them to suck it?

Was Heather the manager before/during the exodus? I would love to know what their IT dept was thinking before/during/after the "upgrade" and why they even bothered with user testing (the local boards) if they were just going to roll out anyway without listening to any feedback.
And I don't believe that people actually go there for the articles. Nope. Not true.

I felt kind of bad about it actually, so I was noncommittal. They're rolling out a new board format next month and it's not terrible (it's on The Knot right now). Heather was insistent with the programmers that they not test the new format on The Nest first because she didn't want to kill what was left of the community there. I know we won;t go back, but I think there's hope for the future of the boards there now. I like to think there's 10k of snarky bitches out there waiting to find their new home.

Basically, the weren't thinking. They didn't consider us at all. Heather was hired from another company to redevelop the site & community. As were all the other staffers.
They all admitted the transition pre-Exodus was completely mismanaged and that the people were inept. Nothing we didn't know.
Of course they want us back. We generated clicks. I'd feel a lot more sympathetic had we not specifically stated it was going to be a clusterfuck, then threatened to leave, then still stuck around until they scolded us. Scolded a board full of women with advanced degrees, with executive positions, from whom they profited for years. Fuck them and fuck their changes. I should have flown to New York. I have a lot to say.
And Patrick, Safari on the iPad still isn't working. I went to the support forum last month and reported it but its actually worse and returns a "null" error when I try to click through. I'm on an ipad whateverythecurrentmodelis running Safari.

Literally, the executive in charge of the Nest brand was fired. From there down everyone is new. So it was hard to stay angry when everyone we were mad at was fired after we all left.
At least for me it was.
But, if you had flown out we would be friends now. So that would have been cool.

I'm sure they seemed nice. SATAN SEEMS NICE TOO!!!!

But they weren't fired because they sucked. They were fired because we left. It sucked for years and no one gave a shit. So I still hold Nest Carlie responsible. I would, however, have enjoyed meeting the NY nesties and taking their $50.
Patrick - are you guys working on the iPad/Safari issue? Waiting for updates in this post is twice as annoying because it is freezing every few posts.
Freezing, scrolling wonky, new button doesn't always work, logs me out all the time...yeah, I haven't complained yet, but Patrick, this is ridiculous. I'm complaining now.
I can't imagine going back. When I occasionally check over there to see if there are actually posters, I keep hovering over posts and getting pissed off that I have to click on each one to see if it's worth reading. With an app, tagging, like button, and previewing posts, I can't imagine what the Nest could offer that would make us want to go back. It's sure as hell not the articles.
Make sure I'm getting this right - they were all fired bc of the exodus? Because we left they all lost their jobs?
I mean, I realize it's more complicated than that, but is that what it boils down to? The new boards sucked, they didn't listen to what we said, we all left, and all fired? Wow. Power!
Note: This is not a recommendation that we should return or anything. While they very much DO want us to return.. I got the feeling that the basics would be the same.. No swearing in the forums, focus on happy married people, lots of recipe and decor articles, etc.. It is still very much The Other Site.
