Wait, they're proud of the new format at the Knot? It's really no better than what TN is now, just different-looking, and actually less user-friendly. And it's against the TOS to link to other posts because "it might hurt somebody's feelings." Seriously, that's the new yardstick over there -- "Ask yourself before you post, 'Would this hurt my feelings if somebody posted it about me?'" They let the swearing come back, but only after a week or so of defaulting any swear word to something ridiculous like "*bad word*".
They made changes to the Knot forums but they didn't make improvements.

This is just all sorts of awesome. But even if they changed the format to exactly what we have here on GBCN, I wouldn't go back. I bonded with Patrick over a pitcher of brown water and that is for LYFE!

I read that as you boned Patrick over a pitcher of brown water. My eyes were saucers for a second.

This was some fabulous drunk posting, y'all.
Somewhere in my email is the response I got from Bump Kathleen or whoever the eff it was. I should find it and you guys can share it with them for a good laugh.
Ohhh I'm going to the one tonight. Sad I missed you guys!
What?? We thought you were there last night! We kept trying to figure out which one you were!
Hm.. perhaps we had too much wine..
LOL Did you think I was one of the girls there who claimed to read TN articles?
I'm so bummed I didn't go to the one last night, looks like I'm the only one from GBCN going tonight?!! FRIENDS??? ANYONE??
PS what is this about husbands coming to the one tonight with wives??? It would take a lot more than $50 to get mine to come... (nothing against guys, but unless they have had experience with TN I don't get why they would want to be there).
...they better have some fresh cake pops ready and waiting for me with my $50 bill.

This is so fascinating. It would make a great PR/social media case study.
I post both places, though mostly on SN and (rarely) Parenting on TN/TB. The old national boards like P&CE and ML are completely uninteresting now and my local, which was one of the most active locals, is pretty much 100% dead on TN.
I do hate that I can't hover and have a preview of the post -- Proboards definitely has TN beat in terms of usability, less restrictive TOU and lack of advertising, and they'll never do such radical changes over there.
I give them kudos for the outreach, though. Both in terms of actually doing it, and I think they've somewhat succeeded in smoothing over the negatives with their perky new hires -- I think fewer people will hate on them after this post, even if that doesn't translate to leaving Proboards. We're kind of softies in some ways, I see a lot of sympathy for the sweet, struggling newbs who aren't the big baddies who fucked up and drove us to leave. It's harder to say FU to the people who were hired to try to fix the mess. So if they were looking to make a first step to rehabbing their image, I think they at least accomplished that.
They still lost the lively community they had, though. We've retrenched without them and although I could see more dual-site posting eventually might happen, it's going to take more than liquor and cakepops for them to get there -- it's going to take years of backfilling with new posters. That kind of community building takes time. My bet is that most people here won't ever go back to posting on TN as much as they did pre-exodus, even if some might eventually post a little bit over there.
And Patrick, Safari on the iPad still isn't working. I went to the support forum last month and reported it but its actually worse and returns a "null" error when I try to click through. I'm on an ipad whateverythecurrentmodelis running Safari.
Specifically, I'm interested to know what the 'null' error is. Is it a blank page? Or is there some error message? And when you say "click through", what are you attempting to do? A specific thing like posting, or following any link?

We CAN'T go back, guys. We JUST got papie over here.
krozett, I'm on a regular laptop and the page fails to load for me at least half the time. I will yake a screen shot next time. I also frequently get Err Bears. Also, I can't delete posts when I post from my phone. But I recognize that this is probably a sly attempt to get me to stop being so cheap and buy your damn app, so I bow to your business prowess.

Awesome! I am not going to update on the other page with the ipad problems but will tomorrow if it persists. I only got the null error a handful of times, when trying to click to the next page (hit "next"), and it was when others were getting the bear, so it may not be a real issue. The scrolling problem was the big one. I am excited for a fix.
