Note: This is not a recommendation that we should return or anything. While they very much DO want us to return.. I got the feeling that the basics would be the same.. No swearing in the forums, focus on happy married people, lots of recipe and decor articles, etc.. It is still very much The Other Site.
Oh, shit, I forgot about the no swearing. Fuck that!
Patrick - are you guys working on the iPad/Safari issue? Waiting for updates in this post is twice as annoying because it is freezing every few posts.
We need more specifics on the issues, however I will be sending one of our developers (krozett) over here tomorrow to investigate any remaining iPad issues.
I think we forget how much better it is here (even though my iPad isn't working in Safari). There's an app. Limitless cussing. Patrick plays with us. It doesn't look like the Barbie Website for Married Women. There are no dumb stories or ads taking up half the screen. No one lectures. If a troll is vicious they ip track. So much better all around. We can't even consider a return, though I am glad people went, ate their cake pops, drank their wine, and took their money.
Heyooooooooooooooo! I'm home now. I left the other three at the bar and booked it to catch my bus. Such is the life of a commuter.
So, the only person there who was around during the Exodus was an intern at the time. She came to the bar with us along with the site manager, Heather. Who said we can give out her email if you want to talk to her. So let me know if you want to talk to her.
They were actually really nice. Everyone from pre-Exodus was fired/is gone now. So taking it out on the noobs seemed silly. We were pretty open about who we were though. And the definitely want us back. So there, you should all be satisfied by that, right!?! Their descriptors for how our situation was handled basically match ours (suck, awful, insane).
Also, Nest Cayla is super sweet. And everyone who works there is basically gorgeous. I definitely felt inadequate in the looks dept. Especially since I was dressed like a scrub.
I am still a little drunk. Sober update will have to wait. Sowwy.
And finally, the other half of the focus group mostly read The Nest content. REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! And you all wondered who did that! (I sure as fuck did). So that's a fun fact of the evening.
Was there anyone from the Nest there named Kellee by chance?
I'm ignoring my sadness over the lack of an update by analyzing just how bad Maeby's hair is on Arrested Development. It's my new favorite distraction.
I say fuck that place and fuck everyone who got fired!
When the powers that be decide to make radical changes and it backfires, someone's going to get canned. Wasn't JCP just dealing with the same situation?
Besides the business side of that I used to seriously LOVE The Other Place. When I was scared or hurting, that's where I wentl When I needed a shoulder to cry on, or just someone to vent to, thats where I went and in a matter of a week or so it was completely gone and changed.
Think of all the things we've experienced with each other over the past 8-10 years! Think of all the friends we've made and the ways we've rallied for each other.
I'm not sad one single bit those people got fired.
Wait, they're proud of the new format at the Knot? It's really no better than what TN is now, just different-looking, and actually less user-friendly. And it's against the TOS to link to other posts because "it might hurt somebody's feelings." Seriously, that's the new yardstick over there -- "Ask yourself before you post, 'Would this hurt my feelings if somebody posted it about me?'" They let the swearing come back, but only after a week or so of defaulting any swear word to something ridiculous like "*bad word*".
They made changes to the Knot forums but they didn't make improvements.

IPad freezing? I haven't mentioned it, but for the record, that happens with mine, too. I assumed it was an iPad thing, though. I updates my ios and that didn't resolve the issue though.
I know we won;t go back, but I think there's hope for the future of the boards there now. I like to think there's 10k of snarky bitches out there waiting to find their new home.
Anyone else hearing Sarah Mcglaughlin while reading that?
LOL, a little. And I was thinking how those 10K of snarky bitches had better be prepared to type those words "snarky b!tches" because you know the nest ain't giving up the swearing ****s.
I use the new Knot format regularly and while it's got it's flaws it's certainly been the most painless transition yet and once you adjust (quickly) to the new format, I find it's quite nice. Certainly better than it was and certainly better than what TN became.
TN is looking to branch out not just to Newly weds (though those of us from here that went were the ones who have been married longer than 6 weeks.). We suggested more geared towards budget-friendly articles, not just married couples, really looking outside of the "line" that the entire group has formed. The Knot for wedding planning, The Nest for just after you're married, and then The Bump. It was mentioned several times (mostly by us hags) that there needs to be more to it than just "now you're married." how about more "now you have your own home, whether you're in college, single, or living with someone." Heather seemed to really like that.
And it was pretty awesome that they came and drank with us. And @ameliapond, Muddled, and nicbreeful all got to see what a fucking lightweight I am when it comes to drinking. I hope they had a good laugh.

OMG - We had one of the tech monkeys in the elevator with us! We said, "so you're in IT, huh?" and he mumbled "No, I sweep the floors" and then skidaddled (after letting us off the elevator first).

The number one thing I love about GBCN is that the quotes only go back two posters instead of having an entire page of quotes. Swearing is a close second.
I'm here. Barely. A little hungover. Does no one else have this problem?
It was as has been reported. Anyone that worked at tn when we left is gone. Gone, gone, gone. From the community manager on up. It was a little gratifying to hear that, no lie. dixienormous brought up the exodus right off the bat, so there was no beating around the bush.
It was actually fun. And I loved meeting @ameliapond.
