I got a dresser from Land of Nod with a changing tray for the top. I kept a little lamp and basket with diapers on top and wipes in a drawer and then when they no longer wear diaper, you still have a nice dresser.
I got a glider. there are so many styles out there, again, I like a lot of the stuff at LoN. I know you like more modern furniture, and they have some that go that way there. Plus it is all solid wood.
I got our crib from Bonivita. Fixed sides, solid hard wood and they have never had a safety recall.
We didn't have a big room for C, so I did not go too crazy with furniture. I kept it simple to what we needed; a crib for sleeping, dresser/changing table and then a glider.
A crib a dresser or some sort of surface for diaper changes and that can contain diapers/wipes/etc A rocker/glider/somewhere to sit and nurse/sing/rest/whateverit takes to make them stop crying
That's it!
Mine are solid wood from AP Industries, and I have an armoire also. I wanted something that would last me through three kids, and that I would be able to use in a big kid room at the end, with just adding a bed. You would hate them, as they are antique white/country style. :-P
Obviously, you can (and probably will) add a million other things to the room, but those are the basics.
We bought a crib, dresser (put a changing pad on top) and a glider/ottoman.
We also bought another dresser for when she needs it later to match the bed (which turns into a toddler, then full size bed). We are planning to use this furniture long-term.
Oh, we bought a night stand, too. Forgot about that.

It's an ugly rocking chair, but they're very comfy and good for nursing. Especially with an ottoman (it's helpful to have your feet slightly elevated... Just logistics).

It is like a rocking chair with a different motion. It is more comfortable imo. I love mine and would marry it if I could, but it was also $700, it is a Dutailier. I just picked the most comfortable chair they had in the store.
I had a glider in our nursery. Never used it for either kid because I didn't end up breastfeeding. It's a cozy chair to lounge in when your kid is suctioned to you. A regular chair just wont do.

We just got a crib and a low dresser that we were able to attach the changing pad to. After we were done with the changing pad (when they turned 2.5), we took it off and now its used for their night lights/pictures.
Here's our furniture set. I love the dark cherry finish

Miso, they do make very stylish gliders/rockers. I don't think the standard glider is your style.

Not true. There are some nice looking gliders out there.

A crib. That's kind of all you "need". I dont really like changing tables because they have such a singular purpose. And they're usually ugly. Maybe a dresser that you could put a pad on for changing?

Glider = cross between a rocking chair and a regular chair. It's comfortable and glides back and forth, instead of rocking. It's nice to have, but not necessary. We had an old school rocking chair and survived. I would like a glider next time.
I never used a glider. I preferred to nurse on my bed or on the couch w/ a boppy pillow. Plus, the baby was/is in our room at the other end of the house for 6ish months, so I didn't spend a lot of time in the nursery.
I agree with PP, you should check out Land of Nod, cute, modern stuff.
It is a like a rocking chair that glides on rails instead of rocking. People like it because they think they need it. Most people (including me) end up not using it much past the first few months. Get a La-Z-Boy or something else that you can later use as real furniture instead if you really want something for sitting in the baby's room.
