I have one of the uglier gliders, but that thing is so comfortable. I am thinking of having it painted a dark grey and using it somewhere else in my house. It also can recline a bit.
here are some of the cribs, I like that they offer a lot with nice, clean lines.
Now that I've seen the Wal-Mart cribs under $300, it hurts to look at anything else. LOL.
lol I think our crib was over 3, but less than $400. And it is solid, hardwood. I looked at less expensive cribs too and they just felt too flimsy to me. This was one of those things that I had to see in person and see how solid it felt.
I got this crib, in white, but did not do the convertible kit.
I would go for comfort here, since you might be nursing in it at random hours in the night. Also, C did not love the glider, but K did, so you never really know how it will go over. But comfort, is key.
@misoangry If I was to have another baby (I'M NOT), I'd buy an Ikea crib. They're awesome. They're not expensive. They're sturdy. They're not too tall. I like how they look, too (aka: simple).
My only fear is having to build it.
Or having my husband build it.
That is a disaster waiting to happen. LOL.
Maybe @da_potato can assemble everything as a shower gift! I would do it if I lived closer.
The IKEA cribs are not for sale on the website, and they are also not in stock at my local stores. WTF?
let me tell you about that. all white ikea cribs are out of stock. they are being redesigned, something about safety yadda yadda. they'll be back in stock in october.
i'm getting the gulliver. we already got a 6 drawer ikea dresser, and a poang chair. all white.
cheap is my middle name.
eta: no, i lied. the chair has a dark brown frame, but a white cover.
They are unsafe? My white ikea crib must have been purchased right before all this. Are they going to be recalled? Maybe I should actually mail in the recall advisory thingy.
Since you're short like me, I highly recommend a lower profile crib. We have a babymod from walmart. I'm only 5'4" so the last thing I wanted was having to deal with lifting the kid up and over a tall crib rail. And when the mattress is lowered, yeah, no thanks.
My friend has a gorgeous PBK crib but the thing came up to my armpits.
This Wal-Mart deal is looking pretty good right now.
Do not ask my why I know this, but this is an excellent crib. It isn't made with MDF, so it doesn't have the possible toxic glue issues--it is hard wood. It uses low VOC paint and is non toxic.
My brother has used this crib through two babies, and it has held up beautifully. It is what I would buy if I ever had to buy a crib.
It's not about being frugal really. I mean, it was more expensive TO get a convertible crib. My kid didn't end up liking the headboard and it didn't make sense in her room. I WANTED her to like it but those toddlers have a mind of their own.
Hmm. I think it costs more to get a crib and then a toddler bed, no? Conversion, from what I've seen, costs about $100-$200.
The conversion kit for DD's crib was $200. From crib to toddler bed we just took the front off the crib and she slept in it like that. When she was ready for a full sized bed we got the conversion kit and now it just looks like a regular full sized bed. We also got a matching dresser and put a changing pad on top of it, sp her bed and dresser match and don't look like former baby furniture.
Besides the fact that I hate gliders, our nursery is too small for most of them. We needed something that had a small profile so we bought this ikea chair.
We didn't put the legs on and just added a swivel bottom like this.
I never had a glider, but I do think it's important to have some sort of comfortable seating in the nursery. We have a fold out Ikea couch in the nursery (we are cheap. lol) and that has served me well. I've fallen asleep on it while holding a baby many times.
I used the sofa in the living room. But then again our condo was so small it was just right outside the nursery/guest room. Bonus: I could watch TV!
We have a twin bed in E's room, a crib, and a couple of drawers. We never did a typical nursery. We changed his diapers on the twin bed.
E transitioned from the crib to a twin. We never converted his crib. He's too tall/big for it, anyway. We just put up rails on the sides of his twin bed.
We plan on getting him nice furniture within the next few months. Something that will last.
We spent the money on a playroom instead of a traditional nursery set up.
ETA: Confession: We took chucks pads from the hospital. We use them as changing pads. They work really well.
We have the Walmart crib and love it. We also stole this chair from downstairs and used it instead of a glider- it works just fine and we still sit in it together every night for story time.
Don't buy a changing table, they're a waste of money.
