I have spent literally all day reading this thread. Which was a significant hardship because I'm home with my EBF newborn and a toddler with bronchitis.
But I am so glad I didn't defer because meshaliuknits CA hat trick and IIOY WTMF dance killed me dead. That's figuratively, not literally. But I'm pretty sure MrP's boss would let him leave early if it did.
And you wanna talk about dirty? We ate lunch sitting on the bathroom floor with the hot shower on for steam. The toilet was kid-proofed.

I hope you put down a picnic blanket! But seriously, that BLOWS. Baby + healthy toddler = hard enough!

Does the rug count? He did leave pizza sauce everywhere he touched, so I knew where to sanitize. Like a tracer.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
I lived in Baltimore city for five years and got called once. I read "mockingjay" in the jury pool room and was the only one ticked when we got sent home early ( they only called 90 jurors that day. I was 105. WAH.).
My old landlord had to serve on a 2 month murder trial once. He was a pediatrician who had his own practice but that wasn't a good excuse apparently.
But my mom got excused bc she had to pick my brother up from college. ( she tried to explain she was about to start a massive clinical trial but that didn't count. Son with dirty laundry though? Excused!!!).
Basically I just wanted to contribute to this epic thread.
I also almost threw out my jury summons bc I didn't know what it was. Whoops.

Lol. Ok my understanding is that breastfeeding is a medical condition. This whole mindset of "suck it up" is bullshit. This is how she feeds her child. Not everyone knows other people who can care for their children. Not everyone gets a year's notice (I think all 3 times I've gotten two months max). I'm not even a giant bf crusader but for fucks sake if her kid is not going to eat any other way, she should be all "fuck it! Bootstraps! Civic duty!" Are you sucking my dick right now? The attitude I'm seeing is ridiculous and disheartening and just plain gross. But also the poster who thinks day cares are dirty is an asshole. And I just used the phrase "suck my dick" which probably also makes me an asshole.

She had 9 months. Plenty of time. Basically she didn't want to do it and used her kid as an excuse.
tbf, lyss, the court didn't see it as excuse-worthy. so, I blame Obama for it. also, fhe issue spun out of control with the DC is too gross for my preshus on page 2. I blame that for this being 18 pgs

Lol @ suck my dick.
I actually think that BFing should be an exemption because even with the accommodation they offered her it would likely be a hassle for the court. But I think she is a particularly bad example of this because she already took one deferment and based on my knowledge of the process, I feel okay assuming she probably went in with an attitude and pissed the judge off and brought this situation down on herself.
But I am sure I am an asshole so I'm not offended if that makes me one! I still love you even if you don't love me.
WTH people, how did this blow up to 17 pages? Summary for someone who went all day at work without internet? I don't have enough time before I go to bed to read the whole dang thing.
Also, my father has never had jury duty, and he's over 60. Apparently, he found out why five or ten years ago... turns out my uncle had "liberated" the jury cards for him and his siblings when he was called to jury duty once, many many years ago, and the office where they kept those was unlocked and the person had stepped out. I can tell this story, because that uncle's been dead a while.

I get that she had 9 months but is it not possible that she also couldn't have foreseen that maybe her kid refusing a bottle would be an issue? It just seems ridiculous that now she faces, what, a $500 fine for not having another option? I realize baby will not starve if s/he isn't fed every hour or whatever but come the fuck on. She'd have to roll in and out frequently regardless. Assuming her kid would be chill with another person caring for it (and sometimes kids of SAHPs just don't tolerate that well). But no, instead of a judge being like, hey, we will postpone it, he just preferred her to suck it up and deal, and if not, hey, the city could use some extra cash! Ridiculous. Insensitive. Not even medically smart. Nope. Not a good call.

So, maybe she shouldn't have deferred for pregnancy so as to save her no questions asked deferment for when she actually had a dependent child.
I'm not saying anyone should breastfeed during a whole trial. I just think it's ridiculous to complain about your 3rd chance requirement to show up for 1 day with ample warning (assuming this isn't one of those stupid districts with the nightly call in).
But, really, I have no dog in this fight. I'd like to serve and won't be called because I'm a non-resident resident. It's a little unfair for me to criticize someone else when I don't face the same situation.

If she'd shown up with a second person to hold the kid in the hallway and bring her the baby when it was hungry, I'm willing to bet large sums of money she would have been excused.
im pissed at these Baltimore residents who were called once! it's my screen name origin, huh? dang you O'malley!!
H got called once and actually made it to voir dire before it came out he was a lawyer in town lol. He was so.pissed. He considered jury duty "research" for his jury trials lol.
As to the OP - meh. Finding out she already deferred once made me lose a lot of my sympathy. It seems she just didn't want to do it. Which ok it's not everyone's cup of tea but as josh Lyman says* "do it, don't do it, but if you don't then you can't complain about the OJ verdict."
Take out the fridge and, likely, it would be fine with $600 that month!
Well, these folks prolly stole groceries from WalMart so they'll be OK.
You win. If I weren't on my ipad, I'd steal the Price is Right gif from NewOrleans and give it to you. Even though it was two different competitions, there can still only be one winner because the C in GBCN sure as shit ain't for communism.
