no one else called me a prostitute. That I actually found offensive. Most everyone else was making jokes. I don't mind being the butt of them (Paltimas is good), but you seemed to actually think what you said was true.
Look, I feel like maybe I shouldn't point this out now that I've explained that it's the way that it was presented that seemed questionable, but I think you are naive if you don't think others felt the same way just because their comments were cloaked as jokes.
also, i was side-eyeing the altima a bit. which is silly b/c i would totally let someone buy me a car. well, i have let someone buy me a car. thankfully it was my dad, so it didn't involve my vagina.
I judged the walking away from the house and the Altima. The Altima for the same reasons as Elle. It's definitely a balance of power thing. Pimp game 101, if you will. Lol.
You don't take help for something you need. Hence my suggestions to either buy a badass luxury mobile, or pay for something cheap and pocket the cash. Or take the Altima and find some way to blackmail the dude. There are options.
Okay Blare Waldorf.
Sorry, I've been watching a lot of Gossip Girl lately.
I am glad I was not alone in thinking that. I get wanting more of a work life balance but I don't think I could walk away from that.
It's about working crazy for a short period of time so that you can live your life exactly they way you want to in a reasonably short amount of time. Lots of money isn't enjoyable if you don't have the time to enjoy it.
And I am laughing at the idea that a six figure bonus will afford you a private jet.
Omg I'm JOKING! Good lord I'm really not hiring buff guys to carry me shirtless to the private jet either.
With people who judge the house thing, im not being snarky I'm just asking but isnt foreclosure the same thing? You stop making payments on the house. Is foreclosure judgeworthy? The recession hit people really hard, there have been a few times where I was on the brink of not being able to afford the house. We couldn't sell it so its renting but its been close a few times.
Forclosure isn't good, but at least you stick around and try to work out a deal to salvage things as best you can. Just walking away, is breaking a contract in the simplest terms and shows no evidence of taking any kind of financial responsibility. It's what my inlaws did; and now they are living in my house.

Honestly, I find the more flameful part of the bonus is that Mr. Serious didn't get the bonus expectations in writing. The most faded ink and all that. Well, not really flameful. Just not smart.
Also with the 6 figure bonus. I'm not judging but if it were me, I would keep working that moneybags job and stay put so I could swim in dollar bills Scrooge McDuck style.
My husband has been doing this for 19 years, and his part of the industry is slowly disappearing due to new regulations. It's time to get out and live the rural, country existence we've both always craved.

You wouldnt have to walk! You could fly away in a private jet. Or be carried in a little tent thing by a group of buff shirtless guys if you want....or both, have the buff shirtless guys carry youre little tent to the airplane.
I would totally be a responsible millionaire.
You think we have way more money than we do. This is why I have never mentioned amounts in the past.
I can't answer yet. I have to go back and read the rest of the thread since I missed this mattress business.
I'm also feeling a little cheated. In my early single days, a lot of the guys I dated tried to get me to pay for my half of dinner. I wish someone had gifted me a car. But then again, I was kind of a prude and a bit lacking in confidence back then, so maybe having hot sex and being awesome plays a part in being offered nice gifts.
***I in no way think sex was exchanged for a car. Just in case that isn't clear.****
yeah, i would never let my H walk away from a 6-figure bonus (which likely also comes with a 6-figure income) just for some silly work-life balance. with all those benjamins, i could BUY some work-life balance.

Would it make a difference if I said that his salary is not 6 figures? Whoever posted in the other post (Gretchen?) that most of his compensation is in his bonus was correct.

There's a world of difference between legitimately bring unable to afford your home and choosing to stop paying your mortgage which you can afford because your home lost too much value. The latter is what people are judging.

In my case, my DH and i were both laid off in 2009. We were scraping by to feed the kids, pay child support, keep the utilities on. No one was hiring. We had to leave the area.
I'm VERY lucky that we had family to rely on that lived in an area that barely felt the recession. We moved in with my parents for a year, got jobs within 3 weeks of moving here and were able to pay the house for a few months until it was rented out. We just dug ourselves out of that hole and now we got hit again (60% of my current lack of money is due to the last renter).
If this renter stops paying us (like the last two) then we are fucked. I'm just saying sometimes shit happens.

But how do people know which one applied to the poster? Did she post about it in the past? I can never remember everything.

No one in his industry does. The bonus is never a guarantee, but it's industry standard, and usually significantly more than your salary. But it's all based on their favor, your performance, and your groups' revenues. They tell you what you get two days before they deposit it into your account. Heck, one person at the bank was even let go yesterday rather than receiving a bonus. A year before they do (like now he's deciding for next year), you have to decide what percentage of it, if any, you'd like to be deferred and paid out over time. It's both the perk and uncertainty of banking.

I'm not judging people who fall on hard times and try to work something out with the bank. I'm judging people who literally move out and stop paying.
