Don't laugh, but I'm loving Wet n Wild's Petal Pusher palette for purple colors. The colors aren't as pigmented as my high end stuff, but it was $5 and they go on way more nicely than other drug store eyeshadows. I picked it up after a couple YouTube makeup people recommended it. www.drugstore.com/wet-n-wild-color-icon-collection-eyeshadow-set-petal-pusher-736/qxp347515
I didn't read the thread but I would like to recommend Nars products and this Benefit mascara. It is the best I have ever used and I buy and use A LOT of mascara (I have an obsession with trying to make my short lashes be long and thick):
I absolute HATE this mascara. I love Bad Gal Lash, but this this stuff was a huge waste of money--it's. Polarizing mascara, ha!
I wouldn't walk across glass without shoes, and I wouldn't apply mascara without curling my lashes first. You will pry my Shu Uemura Curler out of my cold, dead hands.

I've never noticed any difference curling my lashes, even when a professional did it for me. I'd say it depends on your lashes.
OK, a few contrarian thoughts because I love being contrarian.
1. I use Maybelline Great Lash waterproof mascara. It's available in any drug store, cheap, and it works just fine for me. Back when I used to pay more attention to makeup, I remember reading interviews with various makeup artists to the stars who said that one of the industry's secrets is that a lot of them use Great Lash instead of the pricey stuff. I gave it a whirl, loved it, and have used it ever since. I do find the non-waterproof smudges on me as the day goes on, so the waterproof is a must.
2. I use bronzer all over my face and not to contour because I am damn near translucent and I found it gave me an all-over glow. The day I started doing this, one of the guys in our office commented to me that I looked like I had gotten a bit of sun over the weekend and it was a healthier look. SOLD. I now find that if I don't use it, I look a bit sickly and sad. LOL
3. I use a brokedown, busted cheap drugstore eyelash curler that I bought a thousand years ago and for the life of me can't figure out why I would need a pricier one. Don't they all do the same thing?
4. I use a light finishing powder on my foundation, which is actually a tinted moisturizer with SPF that I get from a local aesthetician/makeup artist, and it makes a huge difference in making me look "finished" by giving me a matte appearance.
5. My new thing is using eye shadow as eye liner because it's a softer look. Like niemand88f, I use Crave from the Basic palette. I put that on my upper lid and the next color shade down, Faint, on my lower lid. It never previously occurred to me to use different colors but I LOVE the look. I need the dark on my upper for a pop of definition but a color that was sufficiently dark for my upper lid was always too much on my lower.
6. Ditto the request to pin this thread. It's awesome! pixy0stix

Totally late to the party here.
I have Naked, and while I love some of the colors, I have major fallout issues with it. It's bad enough that I have to out eye makeup on first and then use makeup remover under my eyes. I'm too lazy for that shit.
I also now put my makeup on during my morning Metro ride, and I have to do a second application after my midday swim. So my focus has been on quality products that are auper fast to apply. Right now, I am loving:
MUFE aqua shadow stick eyeshadows and aqua eyes eyeliner: www.sephora.com/aqua-shadow-P310203?skuId=1413798. This is a great deal on an eyeliner set: www.sephora.com/ever-lasting-liners-set-P383542?skuId=1555754. I have some Urban Decay shadow sticks, as well as one NARS, because the MUFE color selection is limited. But the MUFE formula is by far my favorite. It's easy to apply. I can apply a color on the crease and it blends quickly with a brush. I also feel like the sticks are harder to mess up, which is good because I have terrible vision out of one eye and has a lot of trouble putting wye makeup on as a result.
For mascara, I just use a basic waterproof from the drugstore. That's the other reason I like the MUFE - the waterproofing is better than other brands. So after I swim, I reapply foundation and blush but generally only have to touch up my eyes.
I can do my entire makeup routine between L'Enfant Plaza and the Pentagon, and I'm very happy with it.

Also, this thread is making super self conscious about my eyebrows, which are in desperate need of a plucking. I am envious of people with thinning brows!

This sounds like you have too much powder on your brush. Do you use light swipes of the pan and then tap your brush before applying? I would think that doing makeup on a moving train probably doesn't help. I'd have eyeliner streaks up my damn forehead if I tried that.

I have tried it every which way (but only at home, I promise...Naked is too big to throw in my bag) and still have the problem. I have just given up. I used up most of the colors that worked well for daily use anyway. I will pull it out for a special occasion, but I'm really going for minimum effort and maximum reward M-F. I literally have about 90 seconds to reapply makeup after my workout, so the sticks are perfect for basic everyday neutrals.

See, I think this depends on how your eyelashes are naturally. I've spent a lot of money on eyelash curlers, and I've never been able to tell a difference. I've tried curling one eye but not the other -- you can't tell!

Huh. Now I'm intrigued. Granted, I have only used the Basic palette, but I haven't had an issue with the shadow dropping off the brush. Do you notice that certain colors in the palette do worse in this regard? You'll have to forgive me but I am going to completely geek out over this issue and ask for details, LOL.

For me, the only shadow from N1 I couldn't stop the fall out was Sidecar. I stopped using it, even though I love the shade. The glittery ones (go figure) are the trouble makers. I was asked if I had been dealing with Christmas ornaments one time I wore it in early winter. I probably have worn it once since.
OK, yes, I was wondering if it was a texture issue, so it would make sense that one group (shimmer, matte, glitter) would have problems across the board.
May I ask a really random question about makeup tutorial videos? Where do people get the music they use for them? I assume they get permission? I've become mildly fascinated by the fact that professional-sounding music is used in all of them.
these threads kills me. I should just read the first 2 pages and stop.
Every.single.time the exact same thing happens - the first few pages are people who mostly are recommending the same stuff. I get all excited about refreshing my makeup stash (which is all 2-6 years old), make a list of things I might want to buy, and then suddenly people start recommending things not mentioned right off the bat and disagreeing with each other I go into some sort of makeup death spiral and realize my list adds up to about $500 worth of stuff and 90% of it is things I have no idea how to use and I remember that I don't wear makeup on a daily basis anyway (but maybe I would if i had good stuff??) and I crumple up my list and buy nothing.

It's also possible it's just me being inept.
The pencils are not for everyone, but they are perfect for my lifestyle at the moment.
Re eyelash curlers, the point is they flick the lashes up. This opens your eyes, makes them larger or more wide awake. This is important to my face because I have hooded eyes, so I need them to look open. Like most Russians, I also have genetic dark circles, so i need all help in creating an awake appearance.

I have circles from hell under my eyes that have been there since I was a small child, thanks to shitty allergies and probably even shittier genes. All of these tutorials with gorgeous young things using a single layer of concealer and raving about the product piss me off. Skank, you didn't have anything to cover up! Hush! LOL
I've only had fallout issues with the really glittery ones in the naked palette. I think sidecar was tough but I messed around with various brushes and methods to get it to work. I don't use it daily though.

I HATE Bad Gal Lash, so maybe I should try this.
I bet so! One of my friends is really into make up and it's one of the few high end products she will buy. I support a variety of mascaras to suit all types of lashes.
I'm just annoyed I wasted $20 on it. Now Sephora has half size containers for $10 though. I love that they have half sizes in so many things.
I am friends with about a small handful of GBCNers (mostly people I've met IRL), so you all could probably figure out my real name anyway on that basis alone. I know I've figured out some of you. Does that freak you all out?

Half size mascaras? Interesting. How long do they last?
This sounds like it could be a good option for me. With the working from home, I am putting on make up 2-4 days a week. I'd be willing to spend $10 for a half size of good stuff if I can stretch it 3 months, because it's probably gross to keep using my Great Lash for much longer than that anyway.

Let me think. Maybe I'll join tomorrow.
lol. Join us. Join us.
I met GBCN'ers you met. So we know each other by proxy. I haven't skinsuited or woodchippered any of them yet.
