I like a lot of Tiffany's stuff. She's sort of annoying, but she tries a lot of products in various price ranges and she's actually a trained makeup artist (that's what she did before she became a hit on youtube - she may still do it sometimes).
I bet so! One of my friends is really into make up and it's one of the few high end products she will buy. I support a variety of mascaras to suit all types of lashes.
I'm just annoyed I wasted $20 on it. Now Sephora has half size containers for $10 though. I love that they have half sizes in so many things.
Half size mascaras? Â Interesting. Â How long do they last?
This sounds like it could be a good option for me. Â With the working from home, I am putting on make up 2-4 days a week. Â I'd be willing to spend $10 for a half size of good stuff if I can stretch it 3 months, because it's probably gross to keep using my Great Lash for much longer than that anyway.
I think it really is just half the size--I don't wear make up every single day, but I would think a couple of months?

LOL @ 4:31 - "You may need to {lowers voice and wags finger} not do them."
Late to the party on this, but I've been working on replacing my make-up over the last several months with higher-end products. I've found certain brands I like better than others (tarte and UD are my faves so far). The biggest difference for me was buying good BRUSHES. I had no idea how important brushes were with make-up application, until I upgraded. So if you are going to upgrade your make-up, budget for upgrading to good brushes as well.
I have green/hazel eyes, brown hair, and pale skin with blue/red undertones. I try to keep to the basics with my make-up:
Foundation that has SPF to provide an even base to work from. I prefer a powder or BB cream and use UD Naked BB cream and/or UD Naked Finishing Powder. I'm thinking about trying Tarte clay powder because I like the blush so much.
Concealer for things that my powder foundation doesn't cover. I use UD 24/7 concealer.
Contouring products - highlighter and bronzer. I use UD baked bronzer and I haven't found a good highlighter yet.
Color: Eyes. I use Naked 2 & Naked 3 primarily, but I also like Stila shadow palettes.
Color: Cheeks. I use Tarte amazonian clay powder blush.
Color: Lips. I use UD or Stila lipstick. I also have a favorite color of Almay lipstick, but staying power is awful. I haven't found the right lip gloss yet - I'm super picky. I want sheer color and not sticky.
Definition: Mascara - I use Loreal Voluminous Million Lashes, but I'm on the lookout for something better.
Definition: Eyeliner - I use Loreal Super Slip Liquid Eyeliner pen and love it. I've tried gel and hate it.
Definition: Brows - I have naturally good shape, not out of control, dark brows so I just use a basic pencil to fill in a bit and then brow brush to blend. I can't even tell you what I use, lol.
It won't let me modify to add another picture. here's another picture with different light and one without my mascara and under eye concealer to demonstrate the awesomeness of Laura's concealer and secret finishing powder, as well as her full blown volume mascara.
I just went through this entire thread to take notes down, and your photos are amazing. You have very pretty eyes even without makeup but damn, it is amazing how they look in the after shot.
I'm going to go to Sephora soon. I'm playing hooky this afternoon since I figured Sephora will be less crowded now than tomorrow. and also because I'm super excited. I will regret it when I am working tomorrow afternoon, but oh well.

The full breakdown of my method, if you're interested is: Laura Mercier mineral primer all over my whole face, eyelids included Laura Mercier eye basics in linen on whole eyelid, applied with fingertip. It helps to conceal the uneven tone of my lid and my shadow stays longer when I use it, too. Set eye basics with Laura Mercier eyeshadow in Morning Dew, applied with her all over eye color brush. Apply lightest shade in Chanel Ombres palette across lower lid using her eye color brush. Apply next lightest shade to outer half of lower lid, using the same brush in previous step. Use ponytail brush to apply next darker shade from palette to crease of lid. Apply Laura's eyeliner pencil in violet, starting thicker at outer corner, tapering off and ending about 3/4 to the inside of lid. Smudge with darkest color from palette using Laura's smudge brush. Wipe away any eyeshadow that fell down onto under eye area. Dab on Laura's concealer in shade 1 to under eye area and blend using fingertip. Set with her secret finishing powder.
If you have pink undertones to your skin, I would really recommend all of Laura Mercier's makeup, and advise you to stay away from Bobbi Brown's line, which I find to be made specifically for people with yellow undertones. I use her mineral powder foundation in tender rose. It's a perfect match for me, has very buildable coverage, and wears well throughout the day.

People I am in Sephora. They have no naked 2 or 3 in stock. It is loud. There are 8 kinds of eyelash curlers. Women with 9 pounds of eyeliner on their eyes keep asking to help me. There are no prices on half the stuff.I am scared.

Buy one thing this during this trip. Just one thing. If they are out of stock, no biggie, you can buy online. Feel confident in the 6 pages of suggestions. Pretend we are standing next to you and you can do this!

Yes!! This is why I want to curl into a ball and die when I go into these stores!
Then I got a couple random things from the sale bins - some eyeliners, lipsticks, etc, a $10 half size of They're Real, and some UD eyeshadow primer.
I'm excited by the Benefit foundation kit - it seems like it's got a little of everything, so I can figure out what works.
They had sample palettes of all the Nakeds. I really did love 3, but alas they were all out. I wasn't that excited about Basic, I think I need whites and creams with a pinkish undertone, which that did not have. I went back and forth trying to decide what to do - get it somewhere else or get another palette, and looked at everything 18 times. Lady with tons of make up tried to talk me into Two Faced Boudoir Eyes. I ultimately settled on the Tarte Amazon Escape palette because it seemed like a good value - it comes with blush, and it seems like it would compliment an eventual Naked 3 purchase well without overlapping (it's got basic neutral mattes and a dark purple). I don't love all the colors in it, but the ones I like seem like I will be able to get a lot of use out of. I also loved the case.
So thank you all for your advice. I don't think I could have figured all this out on my own.
I will let you know how the make up application goes.

told you you would love Naked 3! Next paycheck! Orb from MAC is a terrific cream-with-pinkish color eyeshadow. Check it out since you may have an upcoming opportunity with MAC.

I have very dark brown hair, green eyes, and very light skin with olive undertones (I'm not a true olive, but the green is definitely there). I get hives from lots of make up, so there are lots of brands I'm scared to try (especially around my eyes).
Foundation: I use Laura Mercier's Illuminating tinted moisture. It's enough coverage to even out my skin tone, but I hate the feel of heavy make up. Concealer: Stila perfecting concealer. I don't remember which shade I use, but it is a perfect match to my skin, which is rare to find. Blush: Lancome Miel Glace. I'm currently using a chanel one my mom didn't like. It's not a great color on me, but I'm too cheap to buy a new one. Eye liner: Lancome. I'm scared to try a different brand, because last time left me with a raccoon mask rash. Mascara: Lancome or Neutrogena- again the eye rash Shadow: Stila Kitten I wear daily. I love Stila's shadows. Lips: I love Burts Bees. Their lip glosses and colors always leave my lips feeling moisturized, just like their chapsticks. My lips also turn almost every shade of lipstick hot pink, it doesn't matter what the color originally started out as.
This thread has inspired me to work on my brows. They are pathetic and need help.
eta: Naked 3 is my favorite, and if I were to buy one, that would be it.
I just followed all the steps in the Benefits foundation kit and my mind is blown.
I'm still having eyeshadow issues - so many brushes, and I don't really understand how to blend, but the stuff I put on following the Amazon tutorial looks way better than the normal stuff. Actually the most amazing thing - I never understood how people could get eyeshadow on their lower eyes and still look good, but this stuff goes under there like a charm.
And the Sephora brand eyeliner that I got for 3 for $15 is pretty rocking.
Change the word "bacon" in this commercial to "makeup," and this is me.
LOLOLOLOL
Honestly, I can immediately see the difference in the way the make up goes on and looks.
This Benefits pack is the best $30 I have ever spent. It is just incredible.
I am now a convert. I was a little nervous when I got home with the Amazon palette because it looks more orange here than it did in the store, but the colors are really nice on. And the palette IRL doesn't look anything like it looks online.
FWIW - I've got the Two Faced Boudoir Eyes palette and really like it. I didn't think I'd use half the colors in one of the naked palettes, and this palette had colors i knew i would use. It's really worked for me. I've got fair skin, grey-blue eyes and blondish brown hair (and grey...must get roots touched up pronto).

Good to know. I wandered around the store for a half an hour with it in my basket. I definitely see the appeal. The salesperson described it as containing the best of Naked 2, and I think she had an excellent point. I waffled for a while, but finally decided that the $10 more for the Tarte palette was worth it mostly because I don't ever see myself springing for a $25 blush.
The problem I had was, while if know purples are best for green eyes, the purple palettes just had a dated, garish look to them. The Tarte palette was the only one I found that had a lovely rich purple accent, without the weird pasty lavenders. I think my skin is too blotchy and old to pull those off.
This local Sephora is on the small side, so perhaps selection is better elsewhere. I'm going to be a Tarte palette proselytizer though. It's amazing.
Whoa. This thread is extremely intimidating. I suddenly feel very inadequate as a woman. Eye primer? I watched one of the posted videos above about a natural look. She used at least 5 different colors! And at least 3 brushes. Ha! Now I'm left feeling as if I need a $52 "naked palette" BUT I DONT EVEN WEAR EYE SHADOW! I just barely discovered CC cream. And I don't even understand the difference between that and BB cream.
I thought this was a good recent thread on jezebel re. cheap makeup. They are all gaga over elf high definition powder.

Some things to think about in here. If any experts with fair (PALE) skin, blue eyes, and blond hair want to chime in with tips, I'd love to hear it.
lol at the bolded!
The thing is, many looks ARE natural, as in neutral colors, not smoky, not glam. The colors in your crease (above your lid but below your brow) generally "sink" that area by creating shadow, and then a light highlighter color right under the brow pulls that bone forward. The result is that your eye is sort of sculpted. The eyeliner below creates a shadow that pulls the lower eye down. Between the shadow above and the shadow below, your eye now appears prominent and wider. You need different brushes for these different areas. Makeup CAN be about color and glitz, but most of it is about illusion. Don't be intimidated. Depending on your eye shape, you might need more things to create lift to the eye, or you can do more things to make it pop, but my description is the very basic point. The online tutorials are awesome, and the girls at my Sephora are just so friendly and funny and helpful-- they really know the products. Look how happy ESF is with her new stuff, and she was terrified at the store, lol. It's really fun-- take a field trip this weekend if you can.
I don't really totally get BB cream / CC cream difference. My understanding is BB is about smoothing blemishes and CC is about color correcting, but I don't have any blemishes (except fine lines and undereye circles), and it still has a nice effect. I bought myself a 20$ sampler of Sephora's top BB creams at the holidays to try them because I do not like foundation (it just feels so damn heavy to me), so BB cream seemed like a nice light compromise for smoothing now that I am getting older. Right now I'm still in the Smashbox BB. I like its effects. I am not OMG THIS IS AMAZING, but I like its effects nonetheless. Maybe one of the others in the sampler pack will blow me away when I get there. If they sell a CC sampler this year at the holidays, I will try that to see if there is a difference or if one is more what I need. Maybe someone is more an expert in these new creams. I have also heard that the real Asian ones are the best, but I have no idea what they are.
I have the same coloring as you based on your description, and I genuinely do not feel that any color is off limits to me. I have preferences, but I would totally wear any color. My favorites are plums, either warm or cool, or a nice cream on the lid and nice brown in the crease. Two really easy ones would be Brule from Mac (lid) and Mystery or Kid from Mac (crease). I also like light plummy blushes. The one I am using these days is Blushbaby from Mac.
I feel like a lot more about makeup depends on your face and eye SHAPE than on your hair and eye COLOR, to be completely honest.

For me, I've always worn some makeup and was a little into it when I was younger, so the hurdle wasn't quite as big for me, but the number of products is still really overwhelming. I think I have a better handle on it now that I've started conquering my fears.
I came to the realization that I was still doing the same shit I did when I was 22, and my skin and life are a lot different now. I had resisted changing because it seemed like a lot of work and a lot of money. I'm discovering the work part is not as bad as I feared. It's expensive though, but given that I can spend $125 without even blinking during a LOFT flash online sale, I figure I can make it work. And this stuff is a better value, in that it will do more for my appearance than another cardigan that will fall apart in three months.
I am trying to do more networking and take on more external-facing responsibilities at work, hence my new interest in a makeover. I think its possible to look great with minimal and/or cheap products, but I am in need of a confidence boost, and I think this new stuff is going to help how I feel.
I still think most of the YouTube tutorials are all just way over the top, except I do like this one --

Oh I don't leave the house without makeup but it feels so lacking if ladies are commonly using 5 shadows and 3 brushes. I feel like I need to step up my game.
