They shorten stride length, strain the back, feet, and pretty much every joint, muscle, and ligament in the leg, and they're not even comfortable. Who decided that this was what was feminine and attractive, and why should we listen to that person?
I love heels, and not just because I'm short. It's almost like a hobby because I get so excited about a new pair. I think they're gorgeous and make me feel more put together (although I don't wear them on a daily basis). I have several pairs that are comfortable and I just love wearing them!
any time I've ever had heels on, all I can think about it when it will be acceptable for me to take them off. I look like a gd fool in heels. it's bad.
AND! They force you to walk sexily. Back arched, butt & boobs out, vavavavoom. That is, IF you know how to walk in heels. There's nothing worse* than some poor gal who looks like she's trying on mommy's pumps for the first time.
I am 5'10", so the heels I wear to work aren't too high, but I find heels more comfortable in flats. When I wear a flat, I feel like I am going to trip on the floor.
I don't (personally) know any women who feel forced to wear heels. Most of them do it the same reason they pluck their brows, etc. They like the way it looks or makes them feel. YOU don't have to like it, but I find it odd that you don't get why other people do like it.
This response is so dumb that I am almost speechless.

Me, too. I always love the look of heels, but I look like a baby giraffe trying to walk in them. I didn't even wear them for my wedding. I stuck to combat boots with a platform, a la KISS. They were awesome!
I have a pair of Sofft heels that really are comfortable. Even the first time I wore them. I wish I had more things to wear with them! I will only spend money on shoes that are comfy. I rarely wear heels and I'm only 5 ft tall.
Check out this 16th century "pornographic" print of a courtesan:
Oh la la.
Those shoes, also called chopines, could be up to 30 inches in height. It's no surprise that a 16th century visitor to Venice "suggested that the chopine had been invented by jealous Italian husbands who hoped that the cumbersome movement it entailed would make illict liasons difficult."

That's long been a theory of why heels are thought to be sexy, Smock. Kind of like bound feet in ancient China. Those menfolk sure do like limiting women's mobility.
I barely ever shove my hooves into heels. I hate them and I don't think they make me look sexier at all. However, I find dancing easier in heels than in any other shoe. So thats the only time I wear heels.

Yes. And I wrote about mainly why I, as a person with half a brain, realize that knowing WHY I want something is important in determining whether or not I should have that something, a point that was apparently lost on you.
I love that now I'm supposed to feel guilty for what I consider "pretty". Kuus, being smug about what you don't "give in" to is just as bad as giving into it blindly in the first place.
I like makeup. I could spend a small fortune at Sephora if allowed. I'm pretty sure the menfolk aren't keeping me down. In fact, I'm pretty sure H would prefer I DIDN'T spend hundreds at Sephora (or on makeup in general).

Things need to be "so fucking hard" because they ARE so fucking hard. It's HARD to figure out not just the big sweeping gestures, but the little ways in which we're contributing to a culture of sexism (or racism, or classism, or any other ism that you're more concerned with) and change those and the way you think about those, in order to change the whole rather than having old values present themselves in new ways. The fact that so many people don't want to do the hard work for that end sometimes saddens me, but usually just infuriates me.
