Do you think of your DH/SO family as your family?

I don't. It doesn't have anything to do with my marriage.  I was thinking back with older generations of my family and it seems like they have all been like that.  I remember my Mom and Grandma and even my Dad making it sort of separate. When talking to J, I will say my side of the family or Dad's side of the family. I refer to them as Aunt or Uncle or whatever to him though.

I was wondering if I just come from an inclusive anti social family or if this is semi normal?

I do. I think for me personally it's because MY family is so crappy.

I know that if we separate they will be on "his" side, so that makes it kind of weird.

No. I'm fond of most of them, we have a great relationship, we get along, but they are not my family just as my family is not his family and that's okay with us.

Nope, they are clearly H's family. He understands though and he doesn't like them much himself.

My family is definitely our family to DH though. But they do so much for us and are so helpful and involved like family would be.

Yes. I see them twice a week and I get to see my own parents once a year at most. So, yeah, they're family.

Yes but I'm closer with his cousins than his parents/siblings. We lived in the same town as his cousins and grandparents for a few years and we became close.

They are my family. At some point you can decide on drawing a line by drawing an emphasis on whose side they are on, or you can just forget it.

I consider them my family, but not in the same way I consider my parents my family. I love them, but it's different. When we first got married, my H was disappointed that my parents and his parents didn't consider themselves family. I would find it weird it they did!

Yeah. They're family. His side is now part of my family, and my side is part of his family. Sometimes, it's amazing, and other times it's stressful.

I don't consider his family mine. We haven't seen his immediate family in 6 years and they live 45 minutes away.
He probably does consider my family his (bc his suck and) bc my parents watch our kids every day, we go to India, he is FB friends with my 2nd cousins, etc.

I'm not close to my family at all and when I met them and saw how close they were I thought "omg, I found my family! We'll be so close, like I have a new mom and dad sister and brothers!!" Hahahahahahahahaha. I was so fucking naive.

Not really. It's not for lack of trying, I just don't feel that way about them. I'm not sure how H feels about mine, I've never thought to ask.

honestly, no. I do consider them part of the kid's family but not mine.

Growing up though, we weren't close to my dad's side of the family and dh isn't close to his extended family either so there's not really been a "blended" example for us to follow.

No. My ILs have very much proven time and again that we are not family. I'm not sure how H feels about my family.
