I bet he'll probably run a write in campaign. I'm hopeful this means a dem can take the seat, though. He won his last election by a narrower margin than had been typical.
Economics prof, and the my cursory search is all about his fiscal views. A Republican with the right focus? I'm going to cross my fingers. I also see he thinks Cantor is out to lunch on immigration...I'm going to have to read up and see what that means.

The opponent/nominee? That would be interesting, and I don't mean that in a snarky way. Often when these career guys lose in the primary it's to someone very extreme and not in good ways
I'm concerned because the guy ran on a platform that Cantor wasn't conservative enough... yeesh.
I know a lot of friends who say democrats voted in the primary to defeat cantor. I'm hoping a good democratic turnout helps later. It's time, Virginia!
A digital politics editor on Fox News said that both David Brat and the Democrat candidate are professors at the same college. I will look up who the Dem is and get back to you.

From the Dems perspective, this potentially increases their chances of taking control of the seat.
But from a broader political perspective, this is terrible. Brat ran against Cantor essentially for cooperating too much with the president on things like immigration reform and ending the government shutdown. So now if you compromise with the other party to keep the government running, you're not conservative enough? What the shit is that? Especially when we're talking about one of the most obstructionist congresses ever.
Fun fact: Cantor is the only non-Christian Republican in the House.
Thanks. I looked different places and couldn't find it, even where results were being reported. It's usually not that difficult to find a candidate's name.
I liked the question in the other thread, "Who replaces him as Majority Leader?"
I think Cantor's defeat could be attributable to three factors: a) general Republican dissatisfaction with what they would call "the establishment," b) irritation over possible immigration reform, c) talk radio support for Brat. He's also charisma-challenged, reminiscent of Al Gore in his speaking style. Really boring.
This shit is real. It seems to be happening in a lot of places.
Perhaps this will lead to something similar to what happened in Indiana when Richard Lugar (a long time moderate Republican) lost to Mourdock (a Tea Partier) who then crashed and burned during his campaign and subsequently lost to the Democratic candidate.
