... I was wondering why they were holding back the release of the name.
I know this will never happen in the US, but...I deeply wish they wouldn't release/report/publish the name of the criminal(s) in cases like this--at least until after the sicko is dead. Deep down, there is truly no need for the average person to know and by making the person known, it's giving them the attention/notoriety they wanted.
This has been a fear of mine for some time. I don't know what it is about being in a movie theater that makes me feel very vulnerable. I can't imagine the terror when those poor people realized what was going on.
I said this to DH this morning when he asked me if I had heard.

There are reports that parents of kids who didn't know the parents of their kids' friends had taken them to see the movie that night are calling police this morning to report those other parents for "endangering my kid without my knowledge."
And they are requesting that people please let them do their work and investigations right now.
Panic & fear make people react differently... which incidentally is the only reason I'm not trying to leap through my monitor and shank a particular poster who thinks he is South Park personified and should get a pass for being inappropriately glib.
The fuck? Priorities people.
Well, I don't know if I'd be thrilled with other parents taking my kid to a midnight movie without my knowledge, but I wonder if the parents of the endangered kids would have been equally furious had there been no shooting. Or maybe they did know their kids were going but obviously freaked the fuck out once news got out about the shooting and are claiming child endangerment as a result of the shooting?
And really, I'm sure everyone in that theater was second-guessing their decision to be there and anyone who was responsible for someone else in that theater was not planning on getting shot at during the movie. A movie theater is usually a safe place.
This is a horrible tragedy but as always, the ridiculous blame game among the general public goes on. It's never enough to just blame the perpetrator, we have to blame people for having the audacity to be at the scene of the crime too.
Wait? I haven't read every post yet since I am just catching up on the story, but people are blaming the people that were there for the event?
According to what I'm reading in social media, yes. They're more concerned that a parent brought their baby to a midnight movie. Because that's the true tragedy here, of course.

THe blame lies with the person who pulled the trigger. I say Fuck off to the people who are victim blaming.

Can someone please source the guy being Turkish? I am just asking because my name is more Turkish than his. However it's not unheard of for folks to change their names.
TO be fair, I dont think people are blaming the victims, just questioning why such a small child was at a late night showing. Not that one life is more valuable than another, but, if I am honest, the question flew through my mind for a split second while sitting in shock and trying to process it all.

I get that, but to call the police to report another parent at this time is not a priority. Let the police do their job. Pick up the phone and call a counselor to help your kid through this, not the cops. If that is they way they want to persue it, you can call them next week.

Hey leave 2V alone. I don't think she was being glib. And stop inciting violence on her. It's uncalled for.

It was on GMA this morning. Let me see if I can find it online

I know, I know. It's one thing to have the thought pop into your head but another to make that the one thing you mention about the tragedy on FB/Twitter/etc. It just made my blood boil.

Exactly. It is the "oh wow, what were those parents thinking having a baby at the theater?" that is popping up in my fb feed. How about "what was the motherfucking mad man thinking shooting fish in a fucking barrel, those poor moviegoers?!! "
Report I also heard in early speculation is he may have schizophrenia. Too early, per the interviewee, but I wonder if it could be and he was off his medication (and why the parents are probably reeling though not totally unsurprised)

Exactly. It's like yelling about the Columbine shooting: "Why, oh why, did those parents send their kids to school that day when they were obviously in danger?"
Missing the point. Again, panic and fear, and the need to blame someone/something.
My mom called this morning. I answered with, "Mom, we're in Ft. Collins. We're fine."
"Ok, just checking! Love you bye!"
For serious, Mom?
Not to be glib about it, but thought I'd share my story.
Also, I woke DH up to call MIL to ask if younger BIL had gone to the screening last night. DH in turn woke up MIL. BIL didn't go, but it seems as if some of his friends did. They're right in the area to go to that theater.
The only thing that we need to add to this thread to make the ridiculousness complete is to have a gun control debate.
Yes. I agree. Because if there is one thing that we can be absolutely certain of, its that guns had nothing to do with this. I mean, if he couldn't get a gun, he probably would have knifed all the people. Or tickled them until they wet themselves.
Sorry. I cant get worked up about this. Its another "Oh my god! How could this happen in a country where guns are easily available?" thread where everyone blames everything except the gun. This is the price paid for the US gun laws. On the one hand, yes, you can protect your property. On the other hand, nutters can kill people.
You know what's never happened in the UK? Load of people getting killed by a gun man in a cinema. You know hwats only happened once? A school getting shot - and after that, the tight gun laws got extremely tight.
Massive coincidence, but also, its very hard to get a gun in the UK.
But sure, lets all argue about the terrible parents who bought a kid to a late night movie lol
Im sorry these people got hurt and killed, but thats how it is.

I know it is dumb but whenever there is a motorcycle accident in my area, I casually text my brother to make sure he is okay. I ask him something stupid just to see if he will text back. I KNOW it is dumb but I worry. He would totally tease me if he knew that this was the case and call me a fucking looney.
