PG-13? Wow. I am really surprised at how movies are rated these days. But still even if it is summertime, should a six year old be at a midnight movie?
Do we really need to judge grieving parents right now? Judge the shooter, but not the victims and their families, FFS.
Seriously. They're not rated PG-13 or R due to increased possibility of audience massacre. So STFU.

This is where I am at. It's such bullshit to judge families right now in the midst of a tragedy. Focus on what is really important. Jesus.
What about hunting in the UK? I need to learn more about the gun laws in other countries.
You cant go hunting. And thats that. Plus there's nothing to hunt - we killed everything worth hunting to extinction, other than deer, and I am pretty sure you get into a lot of trouble for killing a deer deliberately.
Oh, the rich people chase foxes with dogs for sport sometimes. But you know, the rich can do what they want, just like here lol. And even that is constantly being banned, being unbanned, being banned again. Also, no guns.
SBP, our songs aren't as violent, according to my limited recollection (excepting certain rap ditties), as the UK's. I mean, really. How bad must you wanna listen to violence if you're gonna enjoy Prodigy's Firestarter? I mean, ok. He's a firestarter. A twisted firestarter to boot! It's the UK's version of No Doubt's Hey Baby. So, so bad.
ETA: Oh, and I'm quote Pixy because I heard she loves to be quoted. What? I'm wrong on that. I don't think so. Just look how many times she quoted in this thread.
Honestly it's damn time for this country to do some serious soul searching. Why are we the only nation that experiences this on the regular? What can we do to change? What is it about the fabric of our nation that fosters people like Holmes? Why does everyone need to be armed? Why do we crave violent entertainment? Where is the intersection between violence and untreated mental health issues?
But like I said, this won't happen. Instead just wait for the avalanche of laws from sanctimonious politicians on movie theater exits.
If we can put aside our justifiable mutual hatred and loathing of eachother just for a moment (I promise, just for a moment), I'd like to point out with zero examples that many other 'civilized' societies crave violent entertainment as well without it translating to white men feeling so victimized by their less-than-superior role that only a massacre of innocents will make their crazy feel all fuzzy.

I agree. Ben will go to Columbine HS (assuming we stay in this house) and DH asked if I was creeped out. Sadly, I'm not. There have been too many mass shootings since Columbine that I'm hardly shocked when it happens. This one makes three just in Colorado alone.

I know, e.g. Japan.
These are all just questions I think we should contemplate as we try to grapple with this. I don't think that answering one in isolation of the others solves the problem. Soul searching won't happen though because it never has.
This will disappoint you Dylanite but I don't hate you. I don't hate anyone and certainly don't hate anyone I communicate with on an Internet message board.

I can't answer about UK, but I know a little about Japan which I think has even stricter laws.
You can have a gun for hunting. I believe they have annual inspections and ammo counts to ensure that you're using it only for hunting, and the type of gun/ammo you can be is severely limited. I'm also pretty sure you have to actually be a farmer or some other rural dweller to obtain a hunting gun. You can't be in Tokyo, claim you like to hunt, and get a rifle. This is why there are so many shooting ranges in Waikiki targeting (um, so to speak) all the Japanese tourists.
Even the military is restricted. When someone deployed from our remote location, getting their weapon to them was a huge hassle. Not even military can take a weapon on a domestic flight, private car, or train. Since we were a 10 hour drive from the int'l airport, you can imagine the problems this might cause. Some tool I know of left his ammo in his checked bag and got in seriously deep trouble.
