H and I cannot agree on names. He wants something "unique" and while I'm not opposed to unique, I refuse to consider names that are not obviously pronounceable in English. He's always throwing out suggestions of soccer player names. He likes to harass me by suggesting ridiculous names like Iker ("Eeker"), Zlatan, Xavi (sha-vee). Actually, he's dead serious about Xavi.
My favorite names tend to be biblical, though I have no idea why. Elijah/Eli, Ezekiel/Zeke, Jonah, Judah, Silas....
Also, clearly, neither of us cares about girls' names.
My ex bf always said be wanted a son named Xavi
:/
Wow! I've never met anyone who has even HEARD of the name, outside our circle of soccer fanatics, who (of course) all tell H it's a GREAT name! :N: :N: :N:
Right now our girls names are Irene ( my grandmas name), Elena ( H's grandma), Raisa/Raya ( H's other grandma) or Allison. The only names we have for a boy are Xander or xavier
Girl: Eleanor/Ella (my grandmother's name), Claire (can't use it because my niece is named Claire), Boy: I don't love any boy names right now, but would consider Benjamin
H doesn't like the idea of naming a girl Eleanor, he thinks it is old fashioned, but I'm still hoping I can win him over.
My current top picks for girls are: Louisa (or Louise), Arya, Marielle, and I adore Ruby for some reason.
For boys I like Casey (DH thinks this is a girls name though), Matthew, and some others I can't think of as of right now.
I have vetoed all of DH's names. He likes Agnes, Cornelia or Cornelius (yech), Agustus. I had him name the car he bought a couple years ago Cornelious. He can easily list others he likes that are similar. I gave him permission to name inanimate objects around the house and future pets.
Reading your lists reminds me of some of the others that I love - Theodore, nn Teddy (hello, Little Women!) or Theo, Graham, Benjamin, Bennett, Henry. Speaking of Little Women, I also like Josephine.
He was also a soccer fan. His heritage is Spanish so I guess that gave him another reason to like it.
Well, at least that makes a little sense.
H is Latino, but not from Spain. Except his/our last name is the same as a very small Basque city.
We briefly talked about liking the name Taj, but I think it would only work if the kid looked like H (dark dark dark) and nothing like me (blonde, fair). H disagrees because of the surfer Taj Burrow. But he's Australian. They can get away with it! I asked an Indian couple we're friends with and they both looked like this :-|
One of the reasons I do like Taj though is because it means Royal and my maiden name is a royal name.
i love the name Blake Archer for a boy...also i like Tallen as a first name...but FI doesn't like that one For a girl i like Alessandra or Karina for first names, but FI likes Heidi Anne (if goes well with my soon to be last name) for the full name
I like Hebrew/Biblical/Jewish names, with a few exceptions. I already have a Maya and a Naomi. I like: Sophia/Sophie, Sadie, Sari, and Sasha (we're looking for an S name for my Grandmother) Boys: Jonah, Jack, Noah, Dov, David, Samuel, Alon, Barak, and Ezra.
I also like Daphna/Daphne, Eva, Anja, Noah, and Eleni for girls.
I'd like to be able to incorporate my middle name (Jane), but Gloria Jane sounds too close to Gloria Jean's Coffee. Margaret plus SO's last name sounds like the name of an Irish pub or ballad.
SO loves the name Oliver but it sounds awful with his last name. I can't get him to understand that the first name is only half and needs to sound good with the last name. I like Jonas but I'm concerned the Jonas Brothers wasn't long ago enough. Luckily I'm not having kids for about another 10 years.

For girls either Georgia Scott or Liliana Jane. I'm also really liking Marguerite (my grandmothers middle name) and I'd want to call her Margot or Greta, DH isn't sold on those yet.
For boys I like William, Henry, Elliot, and Leo. I also really love Benjamin and Jack but we can't use those.
