I've just been googling and apparently Ayla is actually pronounced eye-lah in Hebrew and Turkish, where the name originally came from. I'm still not sold though as I'm pretty sure if we named a future daughter Ayla she will be correcting people her whole life. I don't want to do that to my kid.

I had a friend in high school named Ayla, and she pronounced it Ay-la. Like... the way you would say the letter "A" if you were saying the alphabet.
It is. Weird, right? But it's been around for a couple of generations now, and I've become attached to it.
Oh ok. If not, I was going to suggest Deanne instead.
Oddly enough, I'm not actually a fan of any of the other/regular spelling options. That might be because none of them look right to me since I'm so used to D'ann, though.

"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
Boys: Wyatt, Bohdi, Caleb, Ian, Rhett, and I met the coolest toddler named Coy a few months back and now I'm pretty obsessed with that as a middle name.
Girls: Lucy, Lila, Scout, Opal, Pearl, Stella, Romy, Nova, Cora For a girl we're thinking middle name would be Jude (family mn for girls)
Mom's middle name is Isabel, as is my and my sister's middle name. Sister kept it going with her daughter having it as her middle name as well. If I have a girl, I'll probably do the same, though I do like it enough to bump it to first name status if we don't go with our first choice, which brings me to the question:
ETA: He also loves Maximillian but hates the idea of a nn for it. Or Maximus (same story as before). Or Magnus. He actually suggested we rewatch 300 and find some names from there. Or, you know, just call him King. wth?
H is all about the STRONG LIKE BULL names for a boy; he would probably :Y: that '300' suggestion. I'm all for a stronger name, but I draw the line at ancient/mythical generals.
Figured. It's a Spanish name though, like "Celia Cruz" (SELL-ya) but with an S instead of C. Just wonder how big of an 8-D I'd get when telling ppl that.
We are naming LO either Harrison or Henry. I really like Everett but its the name of my paternal grandfather who was not all that awesome to us so we crossed it off. For a girl I love Evelyn and Charlotte.
If I had a theoretical daughter someday I would LOVE to name her Ella Susan, after my Grandmother (Ella) and my Mom (Susan), but it is well known my grandmother hated her name.

Along that line, I love the name Ophelia, with the Spanish pronunciation: Oh-fell-iya, like in the move Pan's Labyrinth. But I don't want my kids to have to correct people every single time someone reads their name.
