We went out and bought a large size hamster cage and food for it and water bottle and all the necessary things..can squirrels even be domesticated? She is quite fond of my husband and he sits and nuzzles her.
The vet said we need to keep the nails clipped and come in for check ups, but otherwise she seems healthy. I cannot believe I have a squirrel.
But WHY? Where did it come from? How long have you had it? Is it missing some body part that doesn't allow it to live in its natural habitat? We are all kind of confused right now.
We were standing outside and she just climbed up my husbands leg and into the side of his neck and nuzzled there and he held her. I assume she got separated from her momma, so we took her to vet and got supplies and since she is so young, we are taking care of her, we couldn't just let her go. We feed her kitten milk and she can chew on some food. We live in a woodsy area and this has NEVER happened, I am not about going out and adopting wild animals...no way. She came to us.
You couldn't just let her go? Then she needs to go to a wild life rescue. You have got to be kidding me. This isn't real. So you were standing outside and got its attention by feeding it bread (I'm guessing that's why there is bread all over the ground behind you) and then decided to make it a pet? No.
The squirrel is healthy? For the love of God please let a rehabber have this baby so it can live a good life. Not some caged bullshit where you play with it for two minutes a day and get tired of it after a month.
I'm about to burn these fucking boards down today.
What the hell else was I supposed to do? Leave her to die? She ran up his leg. There was no nest around, we looked. She is young, very young. We took her to the vet. He did all the tests, he said she is a little malnourished otherwise healthy, were we supposed to throw her out? We are feeding her until she is big enough to be on her own, if she leaves us, she leaves us, if she stays, she stays.

Do you not have rehabbers in your state? You seem to only care about getting a cute little pet, not what's in the best interest for the squirrel.
