I vaguely remember a conversation where the vast majority of people said they were socially liberally, but still fiscally conservative. No. I am not fiscally conservative. I am fiscally liberal. Deficits for all! But perhaps that has changed on this board.
Is boycotting companies you don't like really a liberal thing? My very republican father boycotts Walmart.
I think in recent decades boycotts have been for mostly "liberal" things, like companies that are against women's rights or LGBT rights. But in theory, it's one thing that does prove the free market works, right? So both sides should be on board.

No, but it is a pretty characteristic thing of this board.
That is one where we get a little groupthinky. like shame on your for your CFA/Walmart/Nike consumerism! SHAME!
But I also avoid a lot of places, so it's not one where I differ. I do struggle with CFA specifically though. Like...they said they aren't donating to the hate groups anymore. I dont' know that it's been confirmed, but they said they'd stop. So...what do I care that Dan Cathy is a old uptight borderline bigot on his own time? MILKSHAKES ARE DELICIOUS. And their play places are so nice...

I think a lot of my differences come from being a citizen of a different country. But, off the top of my head:
- I don't think citizens should be able to legally own handguns. I have issues with other guns as well, but am willing to concede when it comes to hunting. - I love Universal Health Care. - Very pro-union. - I vote for a party that has it's roots as a democratic socialist party and that was founded by the man who introduced policies leading to things like UHC (and who was voted the Greatest Canadian by CBC about a decade ago). - I disagree with the way things branded as conservative, moderate, and liberal on here a lot because of the whole "Canada" thing.
Outside of politics: - I don't like beer, wine, or coffee. - I don't argue that I'm not a millennial despite being born in that time frame. - Long Johns are thermal underwear.
I'm pro laws, even the stupid ones. You have to obey the laws, and if you don't like them get them changed. Until then you have to obey all laws.
don't you have to break a law in order to bring it through the courts though? A lot of the time?
I mean, I guess you could obey it and pursue legislative change, but I'm thinking of things like the bullshit no videotaping police type laws. You pretty much have to get arrested for that before you can fight it.

I'm thinking of the upskirt picture law. For a while it was legal. The guy got arrested doing it, it was deemed that he hadn't broken any laws, and then they made the law to prevent it.

Boycotting is an issue this board changed my mind on. I used to try to stay away from places that i knew had bad reps or donated to causes i disagreed with (like cfa). Then the very vocal pro-boycott crowd spoke up. Kind of like pot legalization. I'm generally pro. But those who are extremely pro tend to turn me against their viewpoint.

Now that H has started working for a Big Company, I totally reject the idea that businesses are inherently more efficient than government. H has said more than once, "I don't understand how they even make money." LOL.

I haven't cracked yet.
I stopped boycotting them long ago. I figured gay marriage is probably inevitable so their opposition doesn't really matter. I weighed that against their employment practices and decided that was something I DID want to support, so I went back. Shrug.
I am ok with CA taking CO river water and rain barrels being illegal.
Huh?
Running joke on the board (or at least my joke) is that CA is taking all of CO's water. As such, water barrels are illegal in CO because of the water rights of CA (and other states) owning the water.

But is it a joke? It's partially based in fact, isn't it?
Also I'm on a conference call and the guy just used the term "group think" and now I'm pretty sure big brother is watching me.

It is, but I joke about it every time CA is brought up. Or the fact that we're drowning in rain. (YOU'RE WELCOME CA!)

your logic there is pretty much exactly why I want to go back to eating there. Of course, I also just don't have many chances to. I used to work right down the street from one, but there isn't any nearby now. And I tend to be on the road (when most of my fast food consumption happens) on sundays.
NEXT TIME though, I'm going to eat there and groupthink be damned.
I still won't shop at HobLob though. Everything about that place pisses me off. Christmas decorations in May, shitty music, kohl's style pricing structure, AND religious right bullshittery? NOPE.

Weren't they supporting the anti-gay legislation in Uganda, though? It might be inevitable in the US, but there's still a lot of discrimination and quality of life issues for LGBT people both in the US and abroad.

Haha. I looked up the rain barrel thing and discovered that CO owns all the runoff water. So when my basement flooded, I didn't feel one iota of guilt dumping shopvacs full of water into the street.

Thanks pixy, I feel like your always having to explain stuff to me too, sorry about that.
The drought in CA is no joke, to anyone but californian's apparently

I can't hate the oldz. I am an oldz. Most of my friends are oldz. I do enjoy good jokes about hating the oldz. But I have a warped, dark sense of humour.

Yes. It was the support of hate groups that weren't just in opposition of gay marriage, but the gay community as a whole. Not just opposition, but groups that advocate physical harm to gays.
I'm in the minority on just about everything on this board, I feel. However, there is one that I'm kind of afraid to admit because I know some posters that I really like will forever side-eye my every post if they knew this about me.
