Officers won't be charged? How is this even possible? The video is clear as day. How is no one talking about how Ohio is an open carry state? So it's ok for an officer to shoot someone carrying a gun, or just black men?
These responses indicate surprise. How, Sway? How are you guys still surprised by this?
Much like I don't want to become resigned to mass shootings, I want to hold onto the hope that law enforcement will be held accountable for their actions against people of color and minorities.

I had so much hope that they were going to handle this right. It seemed so so clear that this couldn't possibly be acceptable. he was TWELVE MOTHERFUCKING YEARS OLD.
I feel like a fucking fool for thinking there might be justice served. Fuck.

beceause I'm an idiot. I honestly don't know. I just...every other case there were people who were all, "well....but..." and those were bullshit, but this one, I didn't hear a single person try to justify the police action. This was just SO COMPLETELY clearly 100% wrong no matter what crazy ass biased lens you viewed it through.
I thought so anyway.
I'm a fool.
God, I'm so sorry that this is the truth you all have been living. Fuck.
I don't even know what to say. You all are right, it's not surprise that I'm feeling, but fuck, if there was ever a case that should have been cut and dry...
The thing is, I get why they supposedly perceived a threat. They didn't know his age and they didn't know the gun was fake. Fine. But the only reason they had just a split second to assess the threat was because their own actions put them in that situation. If they had pulled up at a safe distance, used their vehicle for cover, told him to put his hands up or drop the gun, he would have had a chance to do so and *then* they could have realized "oh this is just a kid with a toy gun." But their poor tactics made this scenario impossible and as a result, a boy is dead. They never gave him a chance. And there is no justice.
I don't know why anybody lets a little flicker of hope emerge each time a new case happens, as though maybe *this time* this will be enough.
I think we can just assume the cop who "accidentally" shot the Chicago grandmother will face no consequences either. Because blue lives matter y'all.
Well, the officers in the Walter Scott incident were charged or are going to be, right? Freddie Gray is half a cluster, half moving in the right direction. Of course NOT MURDER BLACK PEOPLE would be the best case scenario, here.
As for your last comment: bingo. There are many, many people who have been convinced that officers are justified whenever they shoot someone because it's for their own safety. And their lives are obviously more important than the lives of black men who aren't in LE.
Today on the radio they were interviewing someone from the Chicago PD about the bystander "accidentally" shot in Chicago over the weekend. I missed his title. He said something about hoping this doesn't change the away officers respond in the field. WTF. That is your response? That you hope nothing changes. If that is the attitude of the PD, then there really is no hope.
And that prosecutor is a goddamn coward kicking the decision to a grand jury.
Yes, why is this the protocol? I feel like someone (parents or survivors of one of these cases) needs to get it to a higher court b/c they are NOT getting justice and this grand jury thing is not working in the victims favor or holding anyone even slightly accountable. Legal people, is this happening?
