A FB friend who is just all around anti government.
"A dog kicked hard enough might actually bite back one day. This is a reflection of how brutalized we have been by the oligarchy. What I don't understand is why people despise him more than the other candidates, Their despicable and brutal nature is only cloaked in carefully crafted speeches, slick tongues and exhaulted "political experience" which just means they were part of, suckling from and in cahoots with, the same system that abused you."
"I believe there are many good people who feel so betrayed, so hoodwinked by the system they voted for that in some way this is a more honest, more empowered action on their part. Trump = what you see is what you get. One might not like him but the others are no better. With the others however, what you see is never what you get. They make promises to us all but work for their corporate puppeteers who often hold interests vastly different from and directly in conflict with that of the individual. A vote for Trump is not a game changer for the status quo to be sure. It's just a poke in the eye of the oligarchy's self appointed, smug superiority."
"and herein lies the canard; that it would make any difference in the end. Hilary is as vile and as disinterested in you or I as any of the GOP establishment pawns . In some ways, and I speak as a woman, Hilary is a more dangerous kind than the brash, bombastic trump. Her megalomaniacal greed for power scares me. Her politically calculated lies scare me. That she claims to represent me as a woman scares me. I can only hope I never develop a heart so cold. As for the GOP. They are all castrated by corporate donations. Not a single one holds an independent opinion or commands any kind of respect for anything they have personally achieved in their own right. Cruz and Rubio are tantamount to no more than Obama in Cuban clothing in my view."
When asked who she WOULD vote for:
"Schadenfreude is a beautiful thing. Anyone who has the establishment quaking in their boots has my vote. Or would have if I could.
I'm even mourning the demise of poor old Bernie. How I would have loved to see him swipe the dollars of all those champagne socialists and limousine liberals.
The GOP establishment holding their noses and trying not to look like the rigged, exclusive, far from representative, oligarchy they are, is hilarious.
To answer the question; Trump or Bernie I guess. Not that I'm holding my breath but anything to wake up the brain dead electorate in my view."
The Trump supporters I know run the gamut. But none of them are poor. I mean, maybe GBCN poor, but not below the poverty line poor. Most of the poor, less than HS education folks in my family just don't vote at all. The one thing they all have in common is raging against the "establishment."
538/Nate Silver tweeted some study of Trump supporters that found the best predictor is authoritarianism. Surprise, surprise.
I know a Trump supporter. She lives across the street from me. Her husband works on Wall Street, they both have degrees, they make decent money, she's a SAHM. She told me that the world is just overly PC and it's refreshing to hear someone say what everyone is thinking. They call themselves Catholic and she claims to be a conservative Catholic but can't be bothered with regular church attendance and in her life doesn't show that she actually understands Jesus' teachings.
I'm certain my town is full of supporters. It has always skewed Republican and the people are nominally well educated but not terribly deep thinkers. And very privileged.
Who is this "everyone" and "we" people keep referencing when they talk about Trump saying what "everyone" and "we" thinks?
I can't figure it out. Because it sure as hell doesn't reflect my beliefs. I'm pretty sure she has always had racist tendencies, but was told that was wrong. She externalized the behaviors, but didn't internalize the message and assumed that everyone feels the way she does.
I know I've shared on here before that she and I stopped talking after an incident this fall regarding Halloween decorations (she wanted to put something racist up and I told her it was racist; she stopped talking to me, but didn't put it up).
What's weird for me is that my extended family includes the types of people we are saying support Trump (white, poor, uneducated) and who generally are very conservative (hidden from FB feed due to the number of Fox "news" stories I was seeing). My sister had an anti-Trump rant the other day (she's supporting Bernie for now, would vote for HRC in the general) and these families members liked her post. I went to their pages, and they're all supporting Cruz or Rubio.
I was 100% sure several of them would be on the "Trump train," as they have said things like "The North Koreans shoot illegal immigrants on sight, why shouldn't we?" or "If white people can be called crackers, why can't I use the n word (and various other slurs)?" I've only seen one real Trump supporter on FB, a friend of a friend. (He offers no insight into why he's on the "Trump train" other than "Trump's a winner").
So where the hell are these people? Who are they talking to?
Oh yes, this was my face at Christmas dinner. Followed by a sputtered "But... I thought North Korea was our enemy. Why would we want to be like them?"

That's what I keep thinking. I am 100% positive that *I* (nor most of my friends) are not thinking any of those things that come out of Trump's mouth!
That statement needs revision as to who "everyone" is.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
My mom is not a Trump supporter, but will vote for him if he's the nominee. She thinks HRC is totally corrupt, and there is no changing her mind. Which I get to a point, but corrupt is better than BSC for me. She also thinks Trump says things just to rile people up. She doesn't like the crap he says, but doesn't buy that he actually means any of it, so he's therefore "less dangerous" than HRC.
Do you think she would vote for Bernie Sanders given the choice?
God yes, the "he says what everyone is thinking"... NO HE DOESN"T!!!!
or "he speaks the truth". WHOSE TRUTH!!?!!! Sure as fuck not mine!
I also think about all this talk about "he'll get things done". So, have they been paying any attention to the past 8 years? The President, alone, can't just go running around and put in place whatever changes he/she wants. that's not how it works.
And if Obama had such a battle the past 8 years, how do they think Trump is going to do? 1- I can't see the D's working with Trump at ALL, and the R's.... as freaked out as they are that Trump will be the nominee, I'm not sure how willing they will be to work with him.
Which brings me to 2- there is a way that things work in Washington. Now, I think a lot needs to be changed, but at the same time- an outsider coming in isn't going to be able to magically change how Washington works and "get things done" w/o Washington's support.
The more I think of it the less confused I am by the support he is getting. It's clear now that probably at least half of America is sick of "The way things are" and are looking for someone who will "shake things up" because they are not part of "the establishment"
so you have two candidates to choose from, one of them is a racist sexist billionaire who says what he thinks and well he's rich so he probably knows about being rich. The other is a white haired loony communist who clearly has never had any money yet wants to TAKE YOURS. Since you like many people in America are at least passively racist (as in the racism doesn't "Bother you really") if not blatantly racist, and you want to pay LESS tax not more, trump definitely is looking like the better option.
It's a bit alarming because all along I've assumed trump couldn't possibly win a general but lately I'm thinking he just might. If enough of America hates "the establishment" enough to not vote Hillary we are doomed. There is a large enough chunk that will vote trump happily. Then those who will vote trump grudgingly. THEN those who can't bring themselves to vote trump but just stay home or write in a candidate. The pool is diluted enough that a trump presidency is no longer looking unlikely to me. Pretty depressing.
So yeah, I used to think it was all uneducated white men voting for trump too, but seeing 300,000 votes for him in MA has kind of put that to bed. I highly doubt 300k uneducated MA republicans voted for trump Tuesday. It's a mix of people and honestly now I wonder, do I work "among them"?? Do they sit next to me on the train? of course they do! I'm sort of afraid to ask people any more or make jokes about trump. Good god what have we come to

Lol. No. I'm sure socialism is worse than Trump. And to be fair, this wouldn't be about hatred or vitriol. Bernie is easily the candidate farthest from her beliefs.
My dad and aunt (his sister) both support Trump. Both are upper class white people, but with no college degrees. My brother is also a Trump supporter - upper class, white, with his MBA and CPA.
My dad posted this meme on FB last night. It's the biggest bunch of bullshit I've seen - since when is Trump or the Republican party about helping those less fortunate? I replied "So Donald Trump is a socialist? Good to know. In reality, he would try to deport the homeless guy. And then make him build a wall to keep himself out." and then the mom of my kids BFF replied to me "Depends if the homeless person in question was also an illegal immigrant." Don't ask when we can have another play date!
Every trump supporter I know are Christian Iraqi's they absolutely loathe Muslims, passionately hate them and everything they have done to their people. They want them gone done and out. That's why they all want trump, because they hate the same people and love Jesus.
My FIL loves trump he's like "he's going to stand up to China and show them who is boss!"
I'm astounded that they believe Trump and his supporters make any distinction between Muslim Iraqis and Christian Iraqis. Please believe that if Trump had his way with showing people the door, it wouldn't stop at Muslims and Mexicans. Wow.
The guy on the plane from Denver to Kalispell who asked my dad so you for Trump" and then lectured him on how bad Mexicans are for Colorado was a CEO on his way to his vacation house...

Both of these are prime examples of Trump's far reach. I mean, is it okay to talk about a whole ethnic group of people on a plane as if they are terrible or to tell your child's best friend's parent that it's okay to treat people coming to the country for a better life as criminals?!? No - it's not. But somehow the lines are blurred and this is acceptable now.
IMO we all have to be ready to talk back to this. It's happening in my office and extended family and I can't just sit on a flight and think, "I can't wait to be away from this racist asshole." because we can't get away from them. They have a leader who now has made it social-acceptable to be a racist jerk in everyday interactions. Nope, I will not stand for this and I will get political and try to call someone out - not change their mind - but call them out and make them feel uncomfortable and wrong for saying things like this.

I agree. My mom said that my dad is pissed at me for commenting because he's involved in town politics and is an elected official on one of the town boards, so he's a "public figure". I said that if he's going to post nonsense, I'm not going to let it slide, and that if he's a "public figure" perhaps he should be a little more careful about what he posts. I said that considering that my H moved here from India and gets mistaken for Hispanic quite often (he works at a bank in an area with a large Hispanic population, and people start speaking to him in Spanish every day), you would think he would be more sensitive to what's going on. I mean, regardless of what race/ethnicity/gender we are, equal rights should be important to all of us, but you would think that when your son-in-law immigrated here from another country you would be a little more understanding than other people. Nope.

A local candidate who I campaigned for in local races has just come out in support of Trump. I'm disgusted. He's an intelligent State Senator of a predominantly minority area, and he's supporting that bigoted piece of trash. I feel dirty ever having associated myself with him (though, to be fair, I was barely old enough to vote at the time. I want to say it was 1998 and 2000.)

this meme is infuriating! I started arguing with it in my head then remembered that doesn't make a difference. AAAAAAHHHHHHH

I mean come on. White people can't even tell the difference between Samuel L Jackson and Laurence Fishburne. Like hell these supporters would be able to tell the difference between Christian Iraqis and Muslim Iraqis.
